17:15 "We know that because this is the way biological systems learn". This ignores the kinds of learning involved in ancient mathematical discoveries made long before Euclid. Ancient forms of learning changed as new forms of representation and reasoning were developed, including new ways of establishing necessity and impossibility (as in the multiple ancient proofs of Pythagoras theorem, long before Euclid, and long before Pythagoras). Euclid tried to formalise a subset of that ancient knowledge, and Hilbert modernised Euclid's version. But both omit a great deal of spatial reasoning, including the ancient Neusis construction that can trisect an arbitrary angle (in a plane) -- ignored by Euclid. The claim about the way biological systems learn ignores (among other things) the chemical processes that transform the contents of a fertilised egg to a 'baby' alligator or chick, with not only a chemically assembled extremely complex body, but also a collection of competences involving very complex coordination of perceptual and motor processes -- e.g. the chick can peck for food and follow its mother soon after hatching. It is highly unlikely that the powerful chemical construction mechanisms that achieve this in the egg are all replaced after birth/hatching by neural mechanisms that deal only in statistics and probability, Even adding logical/algebraic tools may not suffice to replicate the functionality of the ancient chemistry-based processes. DeepMind appears not to include those abilities -- despite its extremely impressive achievements. Human-like, or squirrel-like, spatial reasoning requires different mechanisms including abilities to reason spatially about spatial impossibility/necessity.
Please focus AI machine learning on all aspects of biology, bio technology, chemistry, human genetic engineering, healthcare and human physiology, if we can unlock all of the secrets of the human body, we can figure out how to radically extend human life, so we can begin that vast journey of colonizing the galaxy
AI combined with genetic manipulation through crispr cas9 technology is looking very promising for life extension discoveries. Escape velocity from death ??
Artificial intelligence can do great things. Like producing the best steel in the world or managing a quantum computer for more accurate calculations or farming with minimal water and fertilizer consumption or helping to build other planets like Earth. Let's say that artificial intelligence can adjust Mars to become a better planet for life than Earth.
if someone created a good general learning algorithm, then set it free to run on the internet cloud, it would learn how to modify itself and grow to become superintelligence.
Who also thinks this guy (demis) knows a lot more than he is willing to tell us. I mean several hundred of people are working hard for him, pursuing his dream achiving general intelligence. And all the public knows is alphago and atari project. The Work of a comparable small team. Have the other 95% nothing of a comparable achievement? Or is it secret.
I have thought about that too; if i had to guess i ould say they have important individual components, each of which really make a difference(not just research for marketing or for publishing) and they are waiting the right time to put all of that together in a way that is trully significative. For instance, they could have created a gpt3 ; they simply were not interested. Predicting the folding of any protein on the other hand...thats smthing else. They look like they are doing a lot of experiments to try to create agents that can trully "figure out" any task in any scenario; that can take many little specific advancements ,not attractive by themselves for the general public; but the moment they put all of that together they will come up with civilizational changing stuff ; or thats their goal: something more than creating "products"; just my guess
You can tell from the way Demis distill questions and provide answers that he's the right guy for the job.

See the literature on chemical computation. Your on the right track.

Move 37 freaked me out when I watched these matches. Someone once said any technology sufficiently advanced will appear as if magic to a society.
So true, @ouimetco! Wasn't science ever thus?
Demis go go :) We need AI to give us immortality to explore all of the universe !

You are my people 😂 5 years ago you could see where it could go…. I’m leaving more good!!! Go humanity go!!!! 😂

Brilliant, indeed! 😄
simply amazing !
Wow amazing ❤️
Fantastic
1:22:46 This is where, in my humble opinion, China loses the game.
