This update is quite large you will need 3gb of space on your Smart Controller.
Be patient it takes about 10-15 minutes to update sometimes longer.
Once installed follow the instructions in this video to bind your Mavic Air 2 to the DJI smart Controller.

Yep updated mine after I saw Philly Drone life’s video. Mine took awhile and I got a few errors but it went through. Patience is key

Ken, if you have any pull with DJI please "encourage" them to support their Crystalsky for the Mavic Air 2 with the Go4 app. I have 4 DJI drones and can only use 3 of them with my 2 Crystalskys.
I got as much pull with DJI as I have chances banging Britney Spears

The smart controller is looking so good now to all the initial release haters who was talking so much smack about this remote upon release.
I like the Smart Controller option. Gets the bird up faster and less fiddling with cables/phone.

Do you think they'll ever release an update that will allow the Air 2 to work with the Goggles? It seems like an arbitrary omission since they're both OccuSync. Is there something I'm not understanding about that?

I don't get the same quality video or photos with the Air 2 as the M2P. The Pro does a lot better in terms of quality.
One nice feature you will find is your one finger wheel controls the zoom feature.
Hello my friend. I'm new in this, will be buying Mavic Air 2. So, in order to use the DJI Goggles I need to but the DJI Smart Controller right? so I connect the Goggles and the Smart Controller with HDMI Cable. Is it possible to control the Mavic Air 2 Camera movement and tilt (Head Tracking) with the movement of your head using the DJI Goggles? Thank you very much. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm learning about this technology.
Do you know if DJI releases new/improved models each year of every 2 years?
I would like to buy an Mavic Air 2 (or 3) improved version (cameras; more obstacles avoidance) and it would be great if DJI would make a pack of the Mavic Air 2 (or 3...) with this remote because not only this is extremely expensive, but also there's no point of having 2 remotes.

seems like a great controller, not sure if it's worth 750$ for more buttons, possibly a little more range and not having to use your phone though (for me at least)

Man I didn't know about this update until now, now conveniently my Mavic Air 2 controller will not charge, blinks 6 times and dies, and im on vacation and I cant update my smart controller for my other Mavic Air Zoom 2 because I have no PC with me to update on vacation. Controller should support Mavic Air 2 through firmware update . Why doesn't it need to be connected to PC

Hey bud. Can you use apps like Kittyhawk on the SC? Also can you do the Airspace verification process on the SC without cell service? I realized this weekend that I couldn’t do either from my iPad and had to stick my phone into the controller which sucks because I hate flying from that little screen.

with new app update 1.2.1 the air 2 no longer works with smart controller, you have to use older version or wait for dji to come out with new update

I updated my smart controller for the M Air 2 with the result, that the range has significantly reduced by almost three times. !!

SOLUTION: Go to your internal storage on the S-C and delete the downloaded update (should show time when it was downloaded), then use the Assistant 2 to download and update - that's it!

Question anyone using the dronelink app along with dji smart controller I currently just set up mine, am currently having some issues with editing my map when i try to edit my smart controller screen just spins continuously, not sure whats going on, or it could be my lack of experience can anyone tap in and provide some light on this , greatly appreciated

Finally got it updated! Went flying and the DJI Fly app drops out from time to time. RTH still worked (thank God!). Anyone else have this issue?

My own experience with the smart controller and I returned it..
I thought that the screen was not that great other than being bright.
I thought the way they optimize the Android operating system was very bad a lot of lagging, and sometimes would even shut down and freeze. DJI IS NOT GOOD AT USING THE OPEN SOURCE ANDROID LINUX OPERATING SYSTEM.. they are rookies...
The whole point of having this SMART controller is it's supposed to be faster setup, brighter, and run flawlessly because it's not using resources from a phone...it's dedicated it's supposed to run better but that is far from the truth!!
Let's not forget the range will not be as good and that's been the case all over RUclips as the original mavic Air 2 controller..
I felt that my Galaxy note 9 ran flawlessly with a better resolution screen by far, a bigger screen, and bright enough and if I need a sunshade I use one it's no big deal..
My Galaxy note 9 gave me a better viewing experience than the smart controller..
Not to mention in some cases you still have to use a sunshade for the smart controller..
Put your money into a good phone that you're going to use all the time wasting $750 on a smart controller in my opinion is just a waste of money unless you got the money to throw around..
The only real advantage of this smart controller is that it's brighter in the daytime.. THAT'S REALLY ABOUT IT!!
To sum up It doesn't have a better resolution screen, the range is not as good, it does not run better than flagship Android phone like the Galaxy series which has a bigger and better screen. And the price is $750 or more you've got to be kidding me..
And one more thing you can't do screen recording on it and when you try to Mickey mouse to do the screen recording it comes out horrible!!!
The only other advantage is that quicker to set up but now with the new mavic Air 2 controller setup with your phone is so fast it doesn't make a difference anymore..
SO I JUST DON'T GET IT WOW $750 AND THEY CAN'T GET IT RIGHT.. DJI IS NOT GOOD AT THE OPERATING SYSTEM THING THEY SHOULD LEAVE THAT TO THE PROFESSIONALS..

When I put the DJI Assisstant on my Mac it bricked it! NOT HAPPY.
Haven’t tried Mac only Windows due to driver compatibility

MOST OF THE EXPERIENCES WITH THE SMART CONTROLLER IS IT DOESN'T HAVE AS GOOD AS RANGE AS THE ORIGINAL CONTROLLER!!
You said you don't have good experience with range with the mavic air 2? just about everybody has had the opposite experience it's better than the mavic 2 pro in almost every situation.. better range than any DJI drone regardless of price...
There's tons of RUclips videos proving this over and over again..
Even Dustin dunhill got the mavic air 2 further than any drone just as advertised. He got the mavic air 2 with the original controller TO GO 5 MI OUT he could have went further but the battery was getting too low.. and there's plenty of other videos to prove this..
