Yes you are right - so called 'beam trawling' for things like scampi (Nephrops norvegicus), or even scallops, is very destructive as it scours a very heavy steel beam with dragging chains across the seabed. However, this was a mid-water trawl and although it kills everything it catches (like most fish trawls) it does not damage the seabed. In the Isle of Man they stopped beam trawling in certain zones of the seabed and it recovered well and reseeded neighbouring areas, but many say that beam trawling should be banned altogether. Newer electric methods have got rid of chains from the beam but still not great: www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/shing-electricity-beam-trawlers-which-less-destructive-trawl-digging-up-seabed-ocean-environment-sustainability-fish-welfare-a8151231.html
im on a binge of 'scary' ocean creatures and its just making me judgemental of the internet lmao like all it takes to scare you guys is something looks weird and or big...? I legitimately dont get it especially the bigfin squid like it looks like a kite lmao whats that thing gonna do to u
I agree with you. All of the scary things in the world are to do with humans actually ( and also many good things - I don’t think we’re inherently bad - just a bit thick headed and careless)
Stranger things down there than one might imagine and every 32ft of water is an atmosphere of pressure which makes space look like a joke (except for distance) The hardest mile on the planet is straight down 😂👍
True - sometimes the glib 'there have been more people on the moon than the very deepest parts of the sea' is less surprising than it seems when you think about it
Gulper eels can open their mouths wide enough to swallow fish twice their size.
Yes that is interesting - sort of like the pythons of the sea!
Holy shit I don’t know how you managed that but gulper eels are a thing of nightmares
We get these in New Zealand too
We call them "politicians"
We used to here too but now we realise we shouldn’t go giving animals a bad name!
This is amazing, but truly chilling.
They're only a couple of foot long!
7:42 What was that? Was it a live deep sea fish?
Yes it was a living fangtooth - very well spotted! It appears elsewhere on this channel like here: studio.ruclips.net/user/videoYEeqle4Xjts/edit
Isn’t trolling bad (destructive) for the sea floor?

@@IndoonaOceans That is good to see that some sea folk are taking better care of our oceans! Thanks for the information.
7:15 I sea a jellyfish
Well noticed. We were filming in a big round tank which had several things in because they were hard to separate.
Is it periphylla
Thanks for the ID!
Good stuff!
Thanks!
How did you film it ••
V
On video camera with special macro lens adapted for it - see also how we filmed the dragonfish - the same as this
