I already loved Dark & Darker but after watching this vid and realizing they actually made spears super viable, I'm now a fan haha. Looking forward to making my spear fighter.
@@GeeGe. My only grievance is that the thing that makes a spear weak does not exist in the game, you could hug a spearman and he's still hitting you with the tip of his spear. Now I have no idea how they'd fix that but it might just make the weapon unusable, unless you use it to fight around your allies which is a very practical and real use of a spear.
@@SoakieCat So in real life you wouldn't be able to take a spear jab to the face and keep walking forward to hug the spearmen, either. In my opinion, it balances out nicely enough
@@GeeGe. I mean you have a shield for a reason, I do a form of re-enactment and I'm part of Hrafn Vaerengi and it's hard to stab a man who have a 60 cm diameter shield and a weapon to deflect your swings.

Still, my point is that we can't expect the physics of this game to emulate real life combat too well, that would be an entirely different game in the first place. For every aspect that is negatively, let's say "unrealistic", you can find a point in which that lack of realism also elevates the fun of the game's combat. That's why I'm more than happy that this game is one of the few that chose to make spears more realistically viable, even if that "realism" doesn't hold up perfectly elsewhere (which, as I explained, would be a near impossible standard). There's a competitive medieval fighting game that I saw cropping up last year that I think you might be interested in, but I can't for the life of me remember its name right now. If I do manage to recall the name I'll try to remember to pop back in here and tell you what it is!

Wizard in a voiced three man is so much fun Wizard solo is helpless and food for predators That was atleast my 10 hours experience in the past open week.
A really geared wizard can be a total menace, but yea it requires a lot of skill and a team certainly helps. Helps to have someone in the group that can take some hits if things get hairy.
Thank you! Making this video made me realize just how many bangers there are in the DOS2 OST. We just played through the BG3 early access, and it's looking promising. There are still a lot of bugs, and there's only about 1/3 of the game out right now, but the world is dense with lore and secrets. Every dialogue choice has immediate impactful consequences, which makes for some great group drama.
My guy, as soon as you heard that trap hit the barb while you were almost back to half hp, you shoulda turned on that barb instantly. With a spear, you end that mans life in seconds.
As A ranger Id like to play with Spear. its So good when u can start at range and then just bring long spear. Its comfortable vs all melee mobs And u have bow to kill all other at range. U 2shot all crates and barrels u fast to open chest. Spear making this game so comfortable to ranger.
8:00 made me laugh so hard because that ranger could literally be any of us, miss a crossbow shot and then do a "oh shit" run then turn around and try your best to hold your own trying to jump around and dodge and weave only to fail pitifully because you got hit anyways and also missed both your swings

It has battle royale elements like the closing circle from PUBG, but more of a focus on loot and persistence since you can keep what you extract with if you survive. The combat itself is reminiscent of The Elder Scrolls or Mordhau, and the loot might remind you of Diablo. The classes and stat system in the game draw heavy inspiration from Dungeons and Dragons. It's all about a brutal but rewarding PvPvE experience where you compete against other players for loot in a dungeon. They're doing a free playtest through Steam on February 6th if you wanted to check it out for yourself.

Your gear must be insane to have the Resourcefulness level to just shut doors like that I see lots of solo stompers boosting this stat a lot for a good reason apparently

@@greenbean4422 Mordhau is a blast! I went back to it and played a bit when the last playtest ended. I honestly wish there was more to it than dueling, deathmatches, and horde mode, but it's still a great medieval combat game.
After a few hours, I only used spear as well, very nasty against every mob and player. Longswords probably the next best bet for fighters but still inferior to spears.
Wizards are great buffers, so if you're playing with a team I'd recommend staying on the backline and buffing your frontline guys. If we're talking about 1v1 wizard versus fighter, you're going to need to hurt the fighter pretty bad before they get close to you. As soon as they show any sign of retreat, you've got them by the balls. But if they full commit and get close to you I'd recommend a strategic escape with haste and invis. I had a wizard invis behind me and immediately cast magic missiles earlier today, which almost got me. A couple other points: Wizards scaling with magic damage is absolutely broken, it may help to play ratty and save up gear. Also, fighters in heavy armor get magic resist penalties, which is going to help you deal more damage. Just my two cents though! I haven't played much wizard personally.
@@kballsforever Thanks, my biggest weakness is getting triple speed boost rushed by a hasted blessed fighter and dying before I can cast both haste and invis. I think I'll do some rat runs and get solid enough gear before trying to scrap next playtest.
@@RKNELIAS Oh! I played them a bit a while back to the point that I was learning the fundamentals, but I mostly play action RPGs and extraction looters these days. Footsies was one of the things that resonated with me while I was learning to play Mortal Kombat because it applies to other games like Dark Souls and Mordhau to a degree.
Basically the thing that makes the spear great in the game is the exact thing that makes the spear great in real life.

Partial to longsword because it has a riposte no one knows about or uses. Its super fast and hard to block because of the obvious delay on everything.
