I’ve been to the actual place you are role playing! I liked the marble palace theme onsen! All the people walking around with their wood shoes clopping on the cobblestone at night, it was amazing. Also, a guy slapped my belly and I slapped his back and we laughed. Universal gesture for “you gotta lose a few buddy” lol.

Doc Marten boots are very heavy and clompy, so you always hear someone walking around if they're wearing them. You can't sneak up on anyone in those boots!
I was thinking more of the song "Dr. Marten's Boots" as mentioned on "The Young Ones." I was born in 1965. We used to call them Clodhoppers when I was young. Wonder if John Denver ever wore them?
