Compared to the Lorentz Major, the Horizon has almost the identical weight at 27.5kg and similar steel helical gear. Differences being the suspension, 2072Wh battery compared to the 1500Wh and a 160A esc versus the 130A on the Major. I really like Acedeck’s price which is around a $1000 less than the Lorentz. You get a full suspension on the Acedeck versus 2 sets of wheels for the Major. I own a Lorentz and its very powerful and more then I can handle but the real world drawback is its weight and turning radius/carvability versus what I really need or require for an everyday ride. These are touring boards which aren’t my go to boards for everyday use but would be great for long distance rides.
Scott! Very interesting observations. I have the z1 and was saving up the their suspension trucks but you are going the other way... I think comfy suspension and long range is a good combo. No need to break any speed records with a tanky board. I have to convince the wifey for my 8th esk8 board 😅
To me, it looks like it needs a higher spring rate. You can see that when you had the camera in the front it nearly goes completely level, loses the entire "A Frame" structure. That's a nearly 50% sag. If we take it as analogous to mountain biking, you aim for 20-30% static. When you accelerate it's still almost 50% in front, which shouldn't be the case, the weight transfer should unload the front a bit. If you're still in the 90-100 kg range (which honestly you look like you've lost a bit more than that, even, but even at 85kg the point stands) you'll need a much beefier spring set. These boards are all built around a 160 pound rider, they can handle more, but now they've added suspension and that needs tuning. Plus new bushings. That was my initial hesitation with any spring suspension truck, those spring rates are all one-size-fits-some, and I'm a big boy at 105kg. And heavier springs are just not readily available. That said, I look forward to someone making aftermarket sets to fill the need, because that top spec is definitely on my dream sheet. Though it'll be between that and whatever the top spec NYX is when I order next. Great initial thoughts Scott. Looking forward to the post-Christmas review.
Another great review. Also a heavier rider here and I'm always concerned about the capability of these tiny shocks and how they perform at around 120kg. Sounds like they need to be stiffer. Do you know if the smaller battery version also has a shallower battery enclosure, which would result in more ground clearance?
I think if you replace the stock shocks springs with ones that let you modify rebond and compression or even doual chambered air skocks, that would solve your issue, propel was selling an option on there site if I'm not mistaken
I agree with this. on my z3 if going fast I use so much preload so it doesn't feel so floaty but it makes suspension a little redundant. I think oil would slow down the "bounce" and make it feel more solid.
Is this the board you hinted at when you talked about the "Z5" coming later this year (in an earlier video)? Or is there something else coming like the Nyx Z3 - but upgraded? Thanks! Love the content.
@davidheath2427 This thing would fine for trail riding. Not super technical stuff, but it would handle pretty much everything you can throw at it. It's mostly about skill. I mean you can trail ride a 90mm hub board for christs sake.
@@boneheadnumber1409My plan was to custom order the regular nomad N3 (1305wh - P42A Molicel) version but with the elite 6890 motors for a total cost of $1900. But I am just wondering if it’s worth to save that extra for the horizon. And the 1554wh version to be exact. The 2072wh is gonna be too much range for me.
@ I appreciate the follow up! That’s the struggle making a decision without being able to ride them. I have an old endeavor and I’m thinking of upgrading. I love the added distance, torque and speed on the spec sheets of this board. Curious the difference in ride feel and the issues with stability as you mentioned. That made me pause hearing that in your review. More curious now about the feel being very different. Maybe I just need to pony up the airplane ride and go to esk8con in Vegas. 😆

*Glad things are better now!* We rarely have storms here but gettin more common now in England 😱 last couple of days were surreal, and man Covid really hits you when you think it's in the past 😱 knocked me for 6 a few weeks back, 3rd time was worse than the 1st 😭 I see blue skies! Specs vs Experience/Ride Feel is everythin. Surprised how quiet it is!! I see what you mean about the aesthetics, looks like good thought has gone into it, the little connected design points. @davidheath2427 I was talkin to Scotty about his weather, and the storms in England the last two days where a lot of people have died from severe storms causin havoc
So far N3 is a lot more stable at high speed But I’ll really play around with it this weekend and report back on all the steps I take to resolve the floaty feeling
For that price I’ll get the Lorentz! Looks better, charges, a lot quicker, better looking wheels, 5500w motors, lazer lights and stiff hangers no springs, more feeling!
@@jimbo4068 572Wh is a huge difference. And afaik Acedeck said they refuse to go over 10amps for safety reasons and cell longevity. Much more compact gear drive, suspension trucks, light integrated in the front truck, 165A vs 130A, the horizon is a no brainer over the the Major. But I can’t afford them anyway. Though the 14S4P Horizon looks attractive.
Hi Scott, this is a rly interesting and strong board, but for me its to big and heavy. After 8 Years of E Board driving, i also never want a belt drive board and i never want a board with air in the tires again. Yesterday and after months my friend and i repair my meepo hurricane - base plate for charging - and now i can drive my hurricane with clowdwheels after month again, and i am happy it is fixed now and i can use it. BUT, if anybody wanne bye my hurricane, i will take the money for the voyager x limited direkt drive. For me the best board on market. Love the Flex and Longboard Feeling, and it is fast as hell :) Merry Christmas to you and your family!
yea man i think companies should stop trying to “innovate” anything that changes the ride FEEL. instead, innovate with electronic/firmware. more power without killen so much range. Making batteries slimmer. internal lights with multiple functions. Diagnostics within the software. More usa service centers. thats what the focus should be on. trying to change up ride feel seems to backfire a lot and is not a good investment. When kaly dropped the “auto dampening system” i thought it was a joke lol. but anyways, horizon is a beautiful board ✔️🙌🏼
Great info and honesty. Looking forward to the follow up videos. Such a great platform, and looking forward to what Acedeck do next. ❤

Hey mate random question. How do you loosen the trucks on the z3?
Cheers
Wow! What a great board! It would work well for what I need it for but it's not quite perfect. I would also prefer trucks minus the suspension.

YES this is it, Its code name was Z5
I remember seeing those massive wheels at Esk8con and I’m pumped to see this board released. 🎉
From a range point of view this board is perfect
And the 160a ESC is so powerful
Would you consider the horizon over the Nomad N3? Also how is torque and power if you compare the two?
If I were you I'd focus on the weight and cost. The power is a ton either way.
Also what you want from the board . IE a range cruiser, a fun machine, etc . This board will go over grass but not good for trail riding.

Curious how you would compare this board to the Endeavor series by Propel with regards to the spring stiffness issue you mentioned.
Feels very different but I think that’s due to the angle of the 4 springs
The Endevor is more upright (almost like car suspension)

How would this compare to the Propel Endeavor 3 GT with hydraulic shocks?
This has a ton more power and torque
