Not necessarily even to spite him. It is entirely possible that the guy on the ground told the crew about it, leaving it to them to create a quasi-loophole by inviting him. "He's part of crew now. Is fine." Which I'd say is supported by calling him 'colleague' over the radio-

LOL or the guy knew the crew was too friendly and was shooing him away to prevent just such a thing. To be clear, I think it’s hella cool of an experience so don’t take me as negative about it.

I'm 100% certain the site foreman went up to the crew and told them "He's a good man, show him." Calling you back and asking why you were so interested in the old girls and why you came to see them *after* telling you you couldn't be there? He knew you were a crewman the whole time.

The odds to have an American visiting Bosnia, driving their steam locomotive for revenue work, and all while being invited up into the cab without any prior knowledge of who Hyce (Mark) is & what he does has to be astronomical. Some unexplained events in life just happen for the right reasons. What a special experience and to have the ability to share that experience with us. Thank you!

Something tells me that one worker isn't too railfan friendly, let alone much of a train guy, and told the crew, whom understands the appeal of steam and what their job represents, and decided to make all the effort of visiting worth it, whether you had all your cameras or not. This is truly the most wholesome thing I've seen in the world of trains in a while, and love it!

Well, in this part of the world (SE Europe in general), almost every industrial process is seen as a state secret by the older folk. On the flip side, a good bunch don't care about it anyway. Just be cool, ask politely and don't film any faces and/or serial numbers and there's a 50/50 chance you'll be able to get in.

Like Hyce even said, one could expect those Kriegsloks to be tired and worn out from nearly 100 years of being worked day in and day out and not having the wealth that a country such as the USA has, but other than the throttle looking a bit sloppy they're all in great condition. The logistics and engineering that goes into keeping these old machines alive must be pretty impressive.

My dads father was a boiler inspector on the Pennsylvania RR out of Altoona PA and his father (my Great Grandfather) was a station agent for the Pennsylvania RR at Fossilville PA in the 1880's so my interest in railroading comes naturally. There we go, ever since I heard of this railroad doing this and then encountering Hyce, this was probably the closest dream of a crossover we could hope for.
And just seeing you in the shop with your mom translating would have been enough... You blew the gauge on this one Hyce...
This however means that we now need a Kriegslok in Derail Valley to finish this off properly... And maybe in Century of Steam as well...
But we do need to see Hyce (Not Mark, he isn't as spicy as Hyce in the virtual world :D ) run a virtual Kriegslok, somehow.

I think one factor is that for the time and work train crews put in compared to the pay they get, most of them do it mostly because they like working with trains and therefore are more than happy to share that with other people.
I also have experiences with train mechanics that were happy to share what they do with me, even though they were close to retirement. And they didn't have a big smile on their faces, like the wonderful people in this video, you could still tell they were enjoying what they do.
The "don't ask to get in the cab, but don't refuse if you're invited" rule applies in Romania too, not as if I _wouldn't_ want to get in the cab of a steamer
