Great breakdown as always! I was shocked at Juliette confronting Solo so directly. At the end of the last episode, I thought she understood his childlike mind and he also seemed a little unstable. I think he has been alone since he was a child. I've been trying to figure out how he knows so much of the outside world. I suspect he's watching something in the vault that shows the outside world AND knowledge of all the silos. He seems to know more than Bernard! I've seen people ask why Solo would lie about who he is. As a kid alone in the vault, my guess is he got stuck in his make-believe world. They have to get Juliette back to 18 soon. Or someone else needs to show up at Silo 17. Also, is her arm affected with whatever is outside? I hope she wakes up in the vault with Solo!
Hey Pete, first of all, thanks as always - just love your content so much. I wanted to commend you for somewhat playing the devil's advocate when providing your breakdowns. I know the books are different from the show in some ways, but it's completely impossible to know whether you've read the books or not by your commentary - even though I know you have! That takes some insane skill. Well played sir!
I thank the Mayor’s biggest mistake that will be his downfall is trying to frame Knocks for Judge Meadows murder. He turned in Juliette because he thought it would ensure peace down below and he knew they could not hide her forever. He was willing to sacrifice his friend for the overall good of his people. When Juliette did not clean, he gave clear instructions to not build any weapons in the metal shop. Then in good faith he tried to talk with Judge Meadows to find a peaceful solution to find out what happened to Juliette. Instead he realized the Mayor was corrupt and tried to frame Judge Meadows murder on him. That opened his eyes 👀 and put him in the same position Juliette was in when the Mayor lied and stated she wanted to clean. He now knows his friend was set up. Since he escaped and the people below respect him…this means war for the Silo. I think the Juliette’s father will play a critical role with helping Patrick heal from his gun shot. Think Juliette is being too hard on Solo. The man has been in his own prison stuck in vault by himself. He lied who is he because he doesn’t fully trust her. I think he used the names of people who he knew as a child and was not ready to talk about himself and she caught him in lie….but he was helping her. If he was truly bad, he would had just left her alone and monitored what she was doing in the safety of his vault.
I have a theory about Solo: I think he’s spent so much time watching the recorded memories of the silo dwellers on the supercomputer in the IT vault that he’s lost his sense of self. His personality seems fragmented, made up of all the detailed recordings IT collected on the citizens, even small children! It’s like he’s become a living archive of the silo’s collective memory, but at the cost of his own identity.

Definitely a lazy stunt but had to be some use of a mechanized pully system since the pact shits itself over elevators. If they climbed down, they one could say they could have just used regular rope. I think it was poorly executed by someone with 0 understanding of physics. lmao
They didn't slide down the rope though, they were at the end and threw themselves over. The rope thing was meant to catch them so they didn't hit the ground, not to slide down. The part that was unrealistic was how when the metal cable reached it's limit and stopped cold is how they didn't snap their necks or have a back injury. Like they probably went from 20 mph to 0 in the span of a second and they aren't affected by that. Still liked the episode overall, just felt really jarring for a second when that happened.
I just don't understand why there's an angry mob after the mechanical leaders. I mean Judge Meadows was a drunk for 25 years. And we know her role was purely ceremonial. Very few of the inhabitants even met with her privately, so why was it so easy for Simms to whip up a big mob? She was not a beloved public figure. So why would they run down so many flights of stairs to inflict their own brand of justice? If they stopped to think about, if it was true that Meadows was killed by this group from mechanical, then where was Simms? Asleep? Was he helping to aid the murder? He should have been in the room when Judge Meadows met with mechanical. How does escape without blame?
Part of them are surely set up/told to do it as a job. Rest.. well it’s just like in our world people blindly following narration fighting with each other not realising they are just pawns and it’s all sponsored.
For us, it’s easy to understand the whole thing was a set up. Like if the judge was indeed murdered, normal ppl would run out and scream: the judge is murdered, they did it, catch them! Instead we got a speech. This shows a few things: these ppl are naive, they don’t have technologies to help them talk to one another, so they wouldn’t get information. Whatever they get, they believe it. Also with the silo set up, ppl are pretty isolated. So the information again isn’t flowing freely. Lastly, their educations are controlled. For us, we can go on the net, and learn new information. If ppl want to change careers, they just go to uni, professional schools, etc. for these ppl, nope, they are stuck, they got no where to obtain new knowledge. Adding to that mix is a class division, where upper level hates lower level, and everyone dislike mechanicals.
You make a good point that the murder scene Sims and Bernard have painted doesn’t make any sense. It’s doubtful that the Judge would have seen Knox and Shirley with no guards around. But, you have to remember that these aren’t people who were raised to think critically. They are raised to believe that order is the ultimate good. It’s very “Big Brother” in a way. The Judge, along with the Mayor and the Head of IT are the three pillars that hold the Silo up. So, whether they liked her or not, whether they ever saw her or not, the Silo citizens feel wounded by her death. An attack on one is an attack on all. They have been taught to think collectively, like a hive, not individually. That’s why someone like Lucas is so dangerous. He not only think critically, he has the ability to extrapolate sound conclusions from very little information. If he were in our time, he’d be teaching at Harvard or Oxford.
The scene of them just jumping off makes no sense they would have been killed doing that with that cable. Probably my least favorite scene of the series so far, no joke.
Yeah, not to mention ain’t no way that shit is holding a 300 pound dude falling at like terminal velocity. If it did he would like probably go splat and it wouldn’t be pretty. I don’t understand why they had to cut so much slack . Could have made it better but I guess I’ll just pretend they had an insanely good harness
That's the idea so that they can prolong the episodes!!! If they give the answers everyone are expecting them the show is over!!! Does that make sense?!!
Seems like the show has completely abandoned the difficulty of traversing the Silo. Lukas went from the top, to the mines, then back up to the top in ONE DAY.
Budget constraints as well. You will need to build bigger set just to convince ppl it’s that hard to move up n down, when we all can see it’s like 40 steps per levels lol
I havent watched the video yet but how did Lukas get to the mines spend a day down there and back up to the top so quickly? Am i misunderstanding how much time has passed since the judge died but i thought it was a day at most.
I believe Meadows had dinner with Bernard the day after meeting with Lukas. And possibly another day or so with the delegation trying to get back down deep… but where is the entry to the mine??!!
@@rachaelclement4839 at this point I’ll just wait for Silo to wrap up so I can just binge it. But in terms of storytelling and pacing, Severance is head and shoulders above all the shows out right now. The only show that could rival it is maybe The Penguin imo
Being a “sole” show viewer and not a reader of the books. I think solo is just the kid of the revolt leader in episode 1 that was shoved back and probably into the vault prior to the fall of the silo. Note that you don’t actually see the kid die, or any of the revolutionaries. Its implied but Tv law demands that if u don’t see em die, they could be alive :) He acts like a grown man who has not matured emotionally or socially which implies that he has been isolated for decades i would assume. Either way tv shows are getting great again with mysterious characters that drive the show! We got Solo here and Desmond hart in dune, WTF are they both about lol! I love it!
Im not going to spoil it for you, but solo isnt much of an important figure in the overall story. He is this helping side character that has a lot of info on the silos. Solo has that survivors guilt while Juliet is a survivor and that makes it a funny alliance/friendship between both.
This season is very solid but for some reason it’s hard for me to get into it. Like, objectively I get that it’s a great season so far but practically I’m not as invested in this season as I was for season 1. Which is a bummer bc this show rocks. Maybe I just need to wait and binge it.
I agree in part. I think, just like any show, the first season is more exciting since it's a new world and everything is fresh. Once things are established, it takes good writing to keep the show interesting. I think some things are a little drawn out but I can see how that also builds a little suspense over the entire season. Sometimes it's good to be patient as a viewer and enjoy the show for what it's presenting. Things may seem a little fragmented at times but will come together at the end?
Same complaint I’ve had since season one, this is too drawn out. The pacing is consistently straddling the line between mildly interesting and boring. Feel like they should have done a book a season to keep the pace more engaging. But they have to justify the initial costs of set builds and costumes by adding whole seasons chock full of meaningless filler episodes to bring down the overall cost of production per show in order to entice the network. The problem with that strategy is this watered down story has negative effects from ratings to engagement. It risks the network pulling the plug and saying wrap it up, like happened with GOT, Witcher, Rome, etc. So you have a show plotted out for 5-6 seasons or whatever having the first book being drawn out and after cancellation, they have to cram two books into one, usually abbreviated, season. And this is especially risky with this IP. The captivating nature of the first novel is all the mysteries. But those are largely revealed by the second novel, and that and third and last book of the series are frankly average science fiction with ultimately dark, confusing, and poorly explored themes.
I agree,i havent read the books though, this episode seemed just a repeat of the previous one,Mechanical escaping,Juliet tinkering around, solo being "mysterious",Billings looking confused and betrayed. They need to pick it up soon and give us a few answers
I actually think this season is a lot better than the first 1. You still seeing all the layers being peeled off. To say it’s boring, and repeating itself, not really. Ep 4 - mechanical was running away for only like the last half, but you get to see Knox and the chick went from opposing each other’s views to agree to work with one another. N this episode, she completely agrees with him, his decisions, and basically told the audiences she’ll follow him whole heartedly, rather than like previously. In this episode, we also get to see Sims’s wife being a lot more dangerous than previously shown. With each episode, her role continually being pulled out in front of us. She went from a wife who just have a random chat with her husband, to the one that wear the pants in the relationship. And reason why Juliet had to bumbling around to find stuffs is because she has limited resources. If she just conveniently manage to find everything she needs in 1 go, that’s unbelievable! In conclusion, you learn more information about the silo, about the characters (all of them) in a pretty organic way. Not because someone jumped out n explain it all to you and forced feed the information. You see the characters, seemingly passive, started to be pretty active (example Juliet’s dad and Sims’s wife. While whatever Juliet’s dad does is pretty passive resistance, but it shows that ppl are resisting against the authority figures of the silo in their own way. And once there is a strong figure head appears, the resistance leader, they will join the rebels). Again, the show shows multiple ppl have their reasons to join the rebels, instead of the usual: ppl are just blindly follow because they hate the authorities like in our current world 🙄 n believe in all the misinformation 🤦♀️
Agreed 💯 This is just another long drawn out boring show with no interesting characters. I have no desire to read the books to understands what’s going on because this isn’t based off a real literary masterpiece such as Lord of the Rings or Dune.
@@appleish5043 nah cmon 5 episodes spent just trying to make a suit and we still haven’t a clue who Solo is.I mean I don’t want answers all at once but at this rate she will get out of there by maybe 2027
@ you are clearly a gen z with short attention span 🙄 with a deranged solo, you see that’s when Juliet drilled him with questions, he went crazy and seem dangerous. And she needs his helps, priority ppl. For her, most important is to get back to her silo. Knowing who solo isn’t that much of importance 😒 especially when it seems all he does is helping her 🙄 plus you might be traumatised by Netflix’s way of doing season, but so far, apple hasn’t done it, so just enjoy the series 😒🤦♀️ also in case you are not bright enough to see, plenty of things are happening easily just so the story is moving fast (helmet underneath the bed! lol). So I doubt we have to wait to 2027!
the most important revelation in this entire episode, maybe the whole season, is the tunnel in the schematic under the silo which most likely connects all 50 silos together
I really like your story telling and recaps. I've read the books and thought they were amazing; and the show is getting better. I agree the action sequences aren't the strongest, thanks for pointing that out, I had issues when I was watching that scene with the winch. There's no way that scene is possible in real life, at least with the two surviving the sudden stop. "jumping the shark".
This is also around the same point I thought Wool started losing interest for me. The silo war part goes really fast and it's not long after that the book ends (without spoiling anything). I wonder if the show will drag out the war in this silo a whole additional season
There's no way you can convince me that Camille was making a desperate plea. This is when we find out that she is the real puppet master in the Sims household. Now, I'm kinda wishing she was in the books.
what im affraid of is that kennedy will spill the beans on that the world outside is luscious and green. But they will just be falling into the same trap all the other cleaners did except juliet.
My best guess about fake Solo at this point is that he's actually Russell's real son, but Russell paid more attention to the real Solo, which made fake Solo jealous, so he's pretending he's real Solo.
The sheriff is clearly gonna go get Juliette’s dad to patch up that guy who helped Juliette last season and that guy is gonna confirm most of the suspicions Billings clearly has been having lately and probably sway billings to the side of the mechanical people/rebels
I think that "Solo" is the one who got out, caused a revolution and then came back and he feels guilty and need to hide who he is. Or he is the one who was trying to get in the room and killed those 2 that are in front. And on the doors there is something like "we will eventually get in". Or both.. They can go wherever they want with him
Solo reveals that there are dozens more Silos, and he shows Juliette how to communicate with them, including her own Silo 18. Juliette makes contact with Lukas and they develop a relationship. He also tells her about IT's secrets, and relates that after she left, Silo 18's Mechanical staff launched a rebellion against Bernard. When Bernard decides to send Lukas to clean, Peter has Bernard placed in the airlock instead and demands he defend his actions. While arguing with Juliette via radio, Bernard reveals his driving purpose was to protect Silo 18. Silos are frequently disrupted by rebellions, but most are put down; when a rebellion is successful, the Silos' managing authority in Silo 1 will exterminate that Silo's inhabitants. Bernard only wanted to maintain order in Silo 18 and prevent any rebellions from breaking out. However, Peter judges that in working toward that aim, Bernard committed crimes against the Silo, and sends him out to clean. Juliette thinks Lukas is being sent out and tries to save the person released into the air lock, which is actually Bernard. Bernard refuses to go outside or be saved by Juliette and dies in the airlock during the cleansing fire. Lukas assumes control of IT. Juliette, while recovering from her burns, is elected as Silo 18's next mayor by a grateful populace.
I have not read the novels. So I dont know how close they are following the source material. So, what Im about to say may be wild speculation thats way off base. But I suspect every silo is connected underground. And thats actually how Julia and Solo get back to the silo. Or something along those lines. Point is. They are all connected.

Solo is gonna steal the helmet from juliet and make her fix the pump for him. Or even worse break the helmet. Then all the water will get pumped out and juliet will go through the connected tunnel. That could all tale 5 episodes. I hope im not right
although nothing major happened! I like the slow build in this series and its not as infuriating as when watch other shows like FROM! I think solo likely had a helmet inside the safe with him and will likely see him damaged the one Jules found. I wonder if she'll end up getting to her friends via the connecting corridor/tunnel on the map
Yep...this season is really a let down compared to the 1st. We all know Jules won't die, so they are literally stalling all her storylines, I couldn't care less for Solo's, the character is annoying AF and probably (hopefully) will be off'd by seasons end. It feels like Jules became second tier character, they only give her 3 to 4 scenes per episode and that's it, even thought she supposed to be the Protagonist. Judge Sims is an a$$, but his storyline is the only one engaging to atm. Bummer.
Well sure this is obvious "Solo" used the classroom blackboard to crack the code and why he didn't need that anymore. He killed two in the vault after breaking in. Also this is all stupid TV fluff because it ain't in the book. I'm more pissed about wasting air time with the mines. Where are they digging? How did Lucis get back to IT so fast?
"The mines".. Is just me or these mines are a backstory flaw? All Ok if they were the only silo, but there are 50.. After few years the miners should have encounter other silos also mining... but for some strange reason, they still think they are the only ones.. Unless they have been murdering miners...
This show is getting llame and boring and it's a copy of Snowpiercer. If they dont reveal the characters and actions of the other silos this show is just a copy of Sowpiercer.
Solo is Russel the head of IT son… so yeah he actually sat next to Lapis in that classroom b/c he was 12 when locked inside the vault and told not to open it for anyone. The two bodies outside are probably the real Solo and Triny… hence why he doesn’t want to talk about them and took the nickname as his own. Child mind still playing child games. If he helps Juliette with penicillin then she may have to help him by stopping the water from rising. Not sure if she will make it back to silo 18 this season. I am curious if communication will occur between any of the silos. And what is the power line going into judicial mean/ do?? Plus will the coded letter be translated?

They have been taught to think collectively, like a hive, not individually. That’s why someone like Lucas is so dangerous. He not only think critically, he has the ability to extrapolate sound conclusions from very little information.
If he were in our time, he’d be teaching at Harvard or Oxford.
The scene of them just jumping off makes no sense they would have been killed doing that with that cable. Probably my least favorite scene of the series so far, no joke.
Yea they would have been snapped in half. The whole escape thing was a bit ridiculous,IT have cameras everywhere
After Juliette survived that fall in season 1, anything goes...😅..still like the series
@@patrickjeffers7864 Agreed. Considering those are the biggest gripes I have with story element that’s definitely a win overall.
Thank you for the rest of the video.
The show is moving so slowly
That's the idea so that they can prolong the episodes!!! If they give the answers everyone are expecting them the show is over!!! Does that make sense?!!
This season though is moving faster than season 1
@@dasmysteryman12 not really season 1 pacing was much better than this season. Its still good tho.
Like the suspense in silo, thanks for re-uploading the missing bit :p look forward to the next episode in a week
Seems like the show has completely abandoned the difficulty of traversing the Silo. Lukas went from the top, to the mines, then back up to the top in ONE DAY.
Yeah everything this season is very "convenient"
Budget constraints as well. You will need to build bigger set just to convince ppl it’s that hard to move up n down, when we all can see it’s like 40 steps per levels lol
Love these breakdowns. Thank you!
This storyline is becoming wayyy too convoluted. I’ll just wait for Severence szn 2 to satisfy my sci-fi drama itch lol
Is it worth it?? Would want something to hold on to while i keep waiting for weekly update from the producers of Silo
Yes!
That kid definitely died, you can see him next to his mother when Jules was walking towards silo 17
Thanks for re-upload
What caused the cut in last upload ?
probably some sort of youtube algorhythm ai glitch ..the important thing is luckily Pete caught it in time
yeah that face he pulls at 2:23 in that scene was really good. he looked a little mad about what he was hearing from the doctor.
He looked furious but not at the same time. Man's got monalisa face
Good analysis
Galileo Jr LOL
Solo is the son of silo's 17 deceased IT leader
I'm wondering if Solo will have to bring Jules into the vault in order to save her.
🎯
He will. He teaches her how to communicate with the other silos.
Juliet is so smart, but not smart enough to find a medical kit to address an obvious infection. 🥴
Having had a wound go septic, I can tell you from experience it's no joke.
what im affraid of is that kennedy will spill the beans on that the world outside is luscious and green. But they will just be falling into the same trap all the other cleaners did except juliet.
My best guess about fake Solo at this point is that he's actually Russell's real son, but Russell paid more attention to the real Solo, which made fake Solo jealous, so he's pretending he's real Solo.
Galileo Jr, nice reference 🤯
The sheriff is clearly gonna go get Juliette’s dad to patch up that guy who helped Juliette last season and that guy is gonna confirm most of the suspicions Billings clearly has been having lately and probably sway billings to the side of the mechanical people/rebels
3:30 how ? Was he not taken by judicial after he was shot? How did he get in the tunnel?! Pls
I think that "Solo" is the one who got out, caused a revolution and then came back and he feels guilty and need to hide who he is. Or he is the one who was trying to get in the room and killed those 2 that are in front. And on the doors there is something like "we will eventually get in". Or both.. They can go wherever they want with him
It's been a good solid season so far I have not read the books because I don't want to spoil anything for myself.
Show is great!! The book series is fantastic though!
Juliette becomes the mayor at the end of the series.
That’s not how that works 😂
@@michaelw6481Juliette, while recovering from her burns, is elected as Silo 18's next mayor by a grateful populace.

I have not read the novels. So I dont know how close they are following the source material. So, what Im about to say may be wild speculation thats way off base. But I suspect every silo is connected underground. And thats actually how Julia and Solo get back to the silo. Or something along those lines. Point is. They are all connected.
The leader of silo 1 only wants one of the 50 silos to survive to repopulate earth.
PETE PEPPERS FOR PRESIDENT
When did Solo talk about the power coming from the 'outside' ? I must have missed that part
when he was talking to Jules about the reason the generator was flooded and she asked him why they had lights and stuff up by the vault.
@ ohhhh I see now
Thanks! Way better than the AI narrated trash from the others
This definitely felt like a transitional episode. Felt like not too much happened.

So does that mean Solo let's Juliette into the vault and who is Peter?
It's solar power
Solo is gonna steal the helmet from juliet and make her fix the pump for him. Or even worse break the helmet. Then all the water will get pumped out and juliet will go through the connected tunnel. That could all tale 5 episodes. I hope im not right
I've given up on the show. I'll just watch these instead.
Is it a demotion for Sims to go from his position to Judge?
This is a table setting episode
It’s crazy how a lot of ppl don’t see that lol!
although nothing major happened!
Bummer.
Season 1 was so much better than this. Hope the pace picks up in the next episodes.
Juliette will become the new mayor at the end of fhe series. Spoiler
This season is slow and boring.
lil pup solo is mental ill
Does anybody else notice nobody has an accent and from what I can see they don't have a religion.
Show feels boring and hollow. Had to take a few breaks in betwen
The way they are handling the uprising is really really boring. Not at all helped by the not great acting.
This episode was a slow burner I fell asleep several times watching it
This show is very boring for me. Basically nothing happens.
