    Would love to see more of this kind of content. The peaches you freeze dried look way better than ones we have purchased. I think that this is a huge benefit to having a freeze dryer vs. purchasing freeze dried food.

    Your mathematical analysis of the cost of making it yourself versus buying the food is one of the best I have heard. The only factor I did not get was including the cost of the machine over time. It would be wonderful if the machine lasted a hundred years and you used it a lot, the cost per batch would be negligible, but reality sets in at some point.

    Hey Ben,
    I have a HR with the oiless pump, I am def happy with it however you're better off with the Premier pump with the oil filter in the long run. Reason being is the oiless pump will need a total bearing rebuild after a certain time depending on your usage which is expensive plus take into account the current state you may not be able to get parts.
    I plan on grabbing the Premier pump soon as a key backup. Btw.....if you like Avocados season them with your fav seasonings and throw them in the FD, you'll have some tasty and healthy avocado snacks.

    Be careful that your solar inverter can handle the inrush of the compressor and vacuum pump startup. If it can not it could damage those motors. Possibly you should use the inverter to power heaters or other devices that won't be damaged if it browns out (voltage sag). Also if your content is good you won't need to ask viewers to subscribe so many times. Good video!

    Better yet if you have lots of trees to harvest from. Freeze dried peaches are my favorite compared to pineapple, raspberries and strawberries. For breakfast I make a smoothie of flax chia sesame seeds blended with a banana and beet powder, add freeze dried fruit as grain-free and oil-free granola. Naturally sweetened and absolutely delicious.

    Stick with the oiled pump. Well at least make sure you have the premium pump. The oil less pump isn’t worth buying. You may not have to have oil in it but it does have to be sent back to harvest right to be rebuilt which I believe is a few hundred bucks to have done. We have the premium oiled pump and you don’t have to change the oil nearly as frequent as they say. As long as color is good and no moisture in the site-glass then you can keep using.

    Great video! I had been debating freezing before & this helped me make up my mind. I would love to see how different people set up their machine. We live in AZ so I knew I didn't want it in the garage. We made room in the laundry room but now need to raise it to help the moisture drain. Seeing different ways people have successfully set it up would be helpful.

    • @SiCaRiI_DaGgEr
      @SiCaRiI_DaGgEr 2 года назад

      Freeze drying by far is the better option. dehydrating doesn't remove all the moisture and isn't shelf stable to be able to store long term. Use both considering the low cost of dehydrators today.

    • @minutemanprep
      @minutemanprep  2 года назад +1

      Freeze drying costs much more to get into, but the food is delicious. dehydrating i think is better for making things like fruit leather, jerky and stuff like that for long term food storage the food doesn't turn out very good. Buy once, cry once. The freeze dryer is defniitley the way to go.

    If you paid $3,000 for your machine and you make 100 batches of peaches, it cost you $30 per batch plus the cost of electricity plus the cost of the peaches. To say you "saved money" you would have to make a lot of freeze dried peaches.

    • @jeffcraig5462
      @jeffcraig5462 2 года назад

      The cost then goes down each time a batch runs. We have owned our FD for 18 months. With the cost of foods now compared to when we started we have already paid off our machine.

      I'm not sure. It may depend on the seed too. But think most of the time you can simply dry the seeds and store them in a dry bag.

  • @iLLuMNaTi
    @iLLuMNaTi 2 года назад

    Please consider the cost of the machine over time in your math. I agree, if you are able to make 10,000 batches of peaches, you will save a lot of money (30 cents per batch). Even if you made 1,000 batches it would break down to $3 per batch just for the use of the machine assuming you paid nothing more than that, for example oil for the pump or replacement seals.

    • @carolclarkson4859
      @carolclarkson4859 2 года назад

      We figure after about 40 batches it pays for itself compared to buying freeze dried food.
