Bought AX88D Tour 4UG5 for doubles to replace my broken AX77. First impression: 1. Shaft is between flex & stiff. 2. Light when holding in hand but still feeling the weight towards the head. 3. Wooden handle looks cheap after removing original grip (compared to my 1st version AX77, AX88D & AX99). 4. Paint & exterior quality is equally good as Made in Japan. Performance: 1. Good at netplay, rearcourt dropshot, rearcourt clearance, midcourt fast drive, defense lift and baseline to baseline shot. 2. Lacking in rearcourt smashing. It requires more power injection to close the deal. Conclusion: A very fast doubles racket full of punch at the midcourt. A good replacement for AX77. Note: Performance may varies in different individual due to different technique and physical strength.
hey @linutungwei5160 can you update your review of the AX88D tour ? The new gen is coming so it's cheaper now, I 'm looking to buy it and would like to know how you feel about it after 2 years
Thanks for your reviews and cool videos! I really appreciate that you have a special camera that records the flight of the shuttlecock and you're able to share the sound of the racket as you hit it. I know we play differently but at least by experience I can put together those info and the racket's data and see how the racket is like. That way I had more guidance to compare a racket when I borrowed people's rackets as it was easier to narrow down my choices. I've been off for 7 years due to injury. But playing with a Yonex racket for 30 years is hard to just forget then there's suddenly so much to choose from. I last played competitively with a MP 100 2U racket and after trying the current rackets, I still gravitated to a stiff one. My coach was surprised I opted for this pricey one but I got my timing right in a few days. I strung it with BG66UM tension 26 lbs. I might try another kind of string for more control. What's your recommendation?

Seriously considering to get myself the 88D Tour, heard many good reviews from my local racket shop seller/stringer(not 1 but 2 different shops) saying he heard many positive feedback compared to the 88D Pro. The main positive is that it is easy and nicer play with with good feel ("more accessible" I guess for the lack of better word). And this is from customer who bought both the Pro and the Tour together. But my question for you is how does 88D Tour compared to the 100ZZ Tour ? I had a dry swing test on both(4U) it kinda feels the same, and I note that the balance point of 100ZZ T is much higher. I am a big hitter myself and the rackets in my bag is the original version 88D 3U and 4U, and ever since I had my wrist injury last year I am went back to my old Kason F9 (got it out from storage hahahaha) due to flex and ease to generate power. I am now looking for a new racket which has some degree of flex and has good power. Thanks in advance.
I actually think you'll LOVE the 88D Pro! If you had no issues with the normal 88D then the Pro is just better in every way (in my opinion! haha). Easier to play with, easier power, faster. Win, win and win! And yes, 100T feels much head heavier compared to 88D T.
will you be reviewing the new color black/silver 88D/88S pro to see if there are performance difference from the previous camel gold/emerald blue version?
Hello CK, I recently got the 88D game as a sort of beginner-intermediate player, I keep hearing about the tour being significantly better than the game because it closer to the pro though the game is more popular. Do you think I should've gone up and bought the tour instead? do they perform exactly the same despite being different in prices and technology?
At this moment I am using 77pro.... And I loved it.... I want to upgrade my smash power.... But I don't want to lose a lot at defense and front court play.... Which one more suitable for me according to your opinion? 100zz or 88d pro? 😊
Hi CK, great review. I am currently using the Voltric 70 E tune (medium flex without attaching weights) and would like switching to the Astrox 88D but can't decide on the Tour or Game, what's your thoughts? Appreciate, thx.
When i went to yonex store i tried all the 2nd gen rackets and there were only a few 3rd gen astrox 88 series rackets, i narrowed nown between two rackets, 2nd gen astrox 88d tour and 3rd gen 88s game, which one should i buy?
I just started using Astrox 88D Tour today and I'm a little surprised because the racket was super light. Very great for front court play but a bit disappointing for back court player like me. Do you have any recommendation for the string and how much tension should I string my racket so that I can improve my back court play with this racket?
I’ve used Nanoray 18i light for some time and would like to change. 18i light is no longer in production and I couldn’t find any specifics of it as it is quite an old model. I’m thinking of 88d game. Can you share your thoughts?
@@CKYew Thank you for replying, Ck. Really appreciate it. Ya, same price but I am looking at them in the pre-owned market. However, the 77 is the older version (blue) not the one in red. I've been using an old Arcsaber 11 for quite some time now and have always been interested to try out an Astrox but the price of a new top end yonex racquet here is getting more and more expensive. P.S: I am a fellow Malaysian too :)
@@waynecsw Hi, Malaysian here too. I just bought 88D Tour and played for few games to replaced my broken AX77. 88D Tour is now RM140 cheaper than AX77. 88D Tour is definitely a good racket to play with for doubles. I recently put up a review of mine here too.
Hey CK today i managed to try a friends racket, the 88D Play. This is the first time I have tried it but I cant find any reviews online about it let alone comparing it to the 88d pro. i found it to be quite head heavy and wanted to ask you how you think it compares with the 88d pro in terms of weight and other factors too please.
@@CKYew Yes it was great. It felt very head heavy but weirdly enough didn't feel like it has an isometric head so I'm not too sure about that one. I think the best thing to do is to go to a shop about 30 mins from me and hold the 88d pro before I forget how the 88d play felt.
@@west9383 from the Game models to the Play models, the Isometric head has a rounder edge, i dont know what it does to the head heaviness, but im guessing it should be because of the thincker shaft? CMIIW
Hi CK. I have the Game version, could I apply the string at 30lbs tension? I'm using it at 28lbs and it still feels so bouncy with poor control,I want to string it at 29 or 30lbs tension
Great review as always🔥 I would really appreciate it if you could reply to my question. I'm an intermediate player and I can't decide between AX 88S pro, 88D pro and 88D tour. I tested the AX 88D game and AX 100 tour (those were the only ones that I could test) and I liked the 88D game better. The reason for it is because I found it easier to smash with the 88D game and it was less demanding to use. According to your matrix the rackets rank as follows for head heaviness: 88D pro> 100 tour> 88S pro> 88D tour> 88D game. So is this also the order of "hard to easy" to use? After reading my comment which racket would you recommend me?
@@CKYew Thx for your reply, but the thing is I can't test the 88D pro or the 88S pro or even the 88D tour :( So is the 88D pro harder to use and stiffer than the 100 tour?
@@chelsealife-xi9ul I wouldnt necessarily say the 88D Pro is harder to use than the 100 Tour. I love my 88D Pro because it was easy to use (for me). It will swing smoother and be faster than the 100 Tour but it costs more. Its all a balance.
Looking to purchase an 88D racket, what is the main difference between the Game and Tour? I guess the main question is what’s the difference between a flexible and stiff shaft for head heavy rackets?
@@CKYew I meant about the playing ability difference for HEAD HEAVY rackets between a medium flex racket (Game) and a stiff (Tour) racket. Eg. Would the Game be more suited for doubles whilst Tour is for singles?
@@CKYew I just bought the 88D Pro and I am shocked how good this racket is! You are definitely right about the effective power in the smashes, I was doing stick smashes and winning points! Definitely my racket from now on!! Can’t wait for your ArcSaber review when will that come out?
Hello .... Today i tried a friend old model 88d ...i really liked it ... Planned to buy 88d but in the market latest version is only available like tour game and pro ...so which of these is very much similar to the old version 88d
@@CKYew just 88d game, and it very well for me, but i need stiff racquet, i've watched vid 88d tour is stiff shaft but coz its have extra slim shaft when u bend it look like slightly more flex than 88d game ?
Hi CK, i want to ask about your opinion Right now im using nanoflare drive, i want to buy a head heavy racket, in your opinion, which one that have closer feel to the 88D Pro, the 88D tour or 100 tour? I saw your video for couple times and saw the racket chart but still not sure. The 100 tour seems more head heavy and stiffer than 88d tour, but is it swing as fast as 88d pro? Thx :)
I’ll be honest and say none of the Tour feels like a Pro because they’re made with different materials. They’re a lot lighter feel. However, the most head heavy Tour I’d say would perhaps be the 99.
@@CKYew thanks for your response :D Between 99, 100, and 88D tour which one that as fast as 88D pro? Because i’ve seen your review and so many review about 88D pro, they all said that the 88D pro is fast enough to play in front court and have good power in rear court. Those 2 is what i looking for my next racket :D
I'm not 100% sure but perhaps the 88D Tour is as fast as the 88D Pro. The 88D Pro is certainly fast enough for front court play and does have lots of good power.
@@CKYew Thanks CK! Just realized that you have done a full review of 88D pro and 88S pro. After finished watching it, I am still debating which one to get. For cut, drop and net shot, it sounds like 88S pro is the way to go. Based on your review, between 88D pro and 88S pro, which one do you feel having better control?
Hi CK. Thank you very much for the nice review. Since I haven't played head heavy rackets before, the 88D Tour or 88D play seems to be a nice option and a bit easier to handle for me. But what I wonder: How would you say they compare with the Astrox 77 Pro (as they seem to be similar considering stiffness and balance)?
The 77 Pro will feel the best when compared to the 88D Tour and 88D Play as it uses better materials. The 77 Pro will also be slightly faster its got a lighter head too
Hey, i currently have the Astrox 69, looking to buy the 88D Game as my backup racket now that my Recon PX5000 broke. How does Astrox 69 compare to 88D Game?
Astrox 69 is basically "astrox 99 tour" of old yonex naming system (yonex used 3x, 6x, xx for low end, mid, and top tier). Just my 2 cents (don't quote me on this), astrox 69 would be somewhere between 88d game and 100 game from head heaviness... It is just pure guess though, based reviews of 88d game, 100 game, astrox 99, and 100 series (zz and zx)...
@@CKYew Thank you for answering to my comment, i bought the 88D Game 3 weeks ago and have played with it for aprox.15hours. Have to say that it feels really good, somehow i find it more accurate than the Astrox69. Head heavyness is feels stronger on the Astrox69 in my opinion but the 88D Game feels better as an overall racquet especially on net game and more refined shots. Astrox 69 Provides stronger smashes so i'd assume it is a bit more HH. Really like them both :D

The 88D and 77 are high end rackets and the 88D Tour is a mid range racket so the feel will be slightly different. You’ll have no issues with ease of use with the 88D Tour. Have you checked out the racket matrix of where I’ve put the head heaviness for the 88D Tour too?
@@CKYew i see..does the 88D Tour feels solid like the high end japan made astroxes? Yup saw the matrix, so the 88D Tour is slightly less head heavy compare to 77 and 88S Pro?

I have a zf2 and love the power but with age creeping up on me, I'm getting tired between matches. I have the option of 99 play or 88d game, what's your recommendation?
Hi Dr. Yew. I'm from Penang. Love your review. Besides the specs and playability difference, any lacking in cosmetic quality in Tour at the cosmetic wise, like glossy finishing looks thinner or cheaper?
Hi CK, hope you get the chance to answer this. I'm having problems looking for the 88D tour in the philippines. I was able to buy one and really liked how it felt and was looking for a spare but I couldn't find one. I was wondering if you could recommend any alternatives? Thank you!
@@CKYew Just to make sure it's clear, all the sellers I talk to here don't seem to have it on stock anymore. Just the Pro and Play version. That's why I wanted to ask you've used any rackets that are close alternatives I can look into?
Hi CK I’m a doubles player who plays more at back of the court. I reckon that I have the strength to play sharp shots but not enough control so I’m wondering if I should get the arcsaber 11 tour or the AX 88D tour or even the duora 10
The Tours are mid range rackets where as the Duora 10 is a top end racket. They're all good rackets in the end so its down to your own personal preference
Hello CK Yew Love your vids! Can you please help me with finding a new racket that suits me? Yonex is my fav brand, but im open if you really think another brand suits me better. The thing is i have an elbow injury from a fall some years ago. Im looking for a racket that is helping me in the power department. So flexy to mid flex and towards head heavy (295-305) because im used to be backcourt double player. My technique is my strong side and have played on a high level. If it wasent for the elbow injury the 88d pro would be a nobrainer :D
Hello, sorry to hear about your fall. There are not many top end head heavy models from Yonex that are flexy. The Tour rackets are quite flexy in my opinion. Otherwise, you're looking at the Astrox 77 as your best bet. The Nanoflare 700 is very flexy and soft in my opinion too.
Hello! have you had a chance to compare the 88d Play against the 99 Play? In your review, you were impressed with the 99 Play. I am wondering if you have the same impression with the 88d Play? Thanks!
@@CKYew thank you for the quick response! In your 99 series review, you mentioned that the 99 Play (compared to the 99 Tour and 99 Game) has that more solid feeling that comes with Japanese rackets, and also more headweight and a touch stiffer (than the 99 Tour and 99 Game). Is this the same case with the 88D Play (compared with its 88D Tour and 88D Game)?
@@CKYew thank you for confirming! The reason I asked is that I bought a 3U 88D Pro and I feel it is too heavy and unforgiving for me. Therefore I am undecided if I should buy a new 4U 88D Pro, Tour, Game or Play. I want a racket that have enough power for smash and rear court drives but not too unforgiving for my lack of skills :-) . I also have a 99 Play, I find this a bit too slow. What would be your recommendation between 88d pro, tour, game and play (all in 4Us)? Thank you very much.
I have been using arcsaber lite for 4 years and now my racquet has broken down. Is the game version a good replacement for me? Arcsaber lite was head light, if not then which intermediate racquet you prefer. Appreciate your help

Hi CK, great videos as always! Quick question, since you said the 88S Pro is stiffer than the 88D Game, in the racket matrix, wouldn't 88D Game be more to the left of 88S Pro instead of being more on the 'hard feel' right side?
@@eliezerjk90 too bad then, i bought the astrox 99 play and feels fantastic, definitly not feel cheap at all, im curious on how the 88D play feels like
@@CKYew hmm i see.. how about the shaft flexibility, out of the three game series of astrox 88s, 88d, and 100 ? in your opinion which one is the most flex ?
Same question from me. I am very beginner player, just start playing for 2-3 months. Lack of power, lack of technique, lack of everything 🤣 Will the pro model be too much for me? The major concern from me is about the stiffness. I heard many people say stiff racquet not suitable for beginner, because you need more power to handle it. What do you think?
@@dickymaulanahadinata2544 I genuinely suggest you to focus on your technique first for several reasons. 1. Higher end rackets require you to have a proper power and technique in order to access their full potential. Without proper technique and power, it would be counterproductive as you would definitely struggling to use it and you probably would end up frustrated because your game is suffering from the advance racket. 2. As a beginner, you don't know how your playing style would be. It is something that develop with your skill. It doesn't make any sense that you invest on a pro level racket just to find out later that it is not suitable with your playing style. 3. Even after you are getting better, you probably don't really have to buy the highest tier racket (unless maybe if you play competitively or pro athlete). Chances are, low-mid or mid-tier racket (88D game or tour in this case) would be enough for most people. I, for example, have been playing for 20 years and consider myself an intermediate player (maybe in the edge between intermediate to advance). I use 88D game now and it serves me really well. While it is tempting to have pro level gears, it is a luxury, not necessity. So try to avoid the GAS (gear acquisition syndrome). It is not always useful to have the latest and greatest gear without knowing what you really need. That way, you would be able to spend your resources wisely.
Love your videos. The Tour and Game models are within my budget, so I wonder which one do you think is better? Consider their price to performance ratio and other factors which you think is relevant.
The production value is amazing for all the Tour Game rackets. They just play differently. Use the racket matrix I've made in my videos to help you choose which suits you best. :)

Performance:
1. Good at netplay, rearcourt dropshot, rearcourt clearance, midcourt fast drive, defense lift and baseline to baseline shot.
2. Lacking in rearcourt smashing. It requires more power injection to close the deal.

I actually think you'll LOVE the 88D Pro! If you had no issues with the normal 88D then the Pro is just better in every way (in my opinion! haha). Easier to play with, easier power, faster. Win, win and win!

Do you think I should've gone up and bought the tour instead? do they perform exactly the same despite being different in prices and technology?
the better the materials, the better the racket is going to feel but it'll certainly cost more.. so its always a balance.

I would really appreciate it if you could reply to my question.

@@CKYew ALL RIGHT!!
Same question from me.
I am very beginner player, just start playing for 2-3 months. Lack of power, lack of technique, lack of everything 🤣
Will the pro model be too much for me?
@@eliezerjk90 thanks very much for your advise
Love your videos. The Tour and Game models are within my budget, so I wonder which one do you think is better? Consider their price to performance ratio and other factors which you think is relevant.

@@longdang3379 Niceeeee! They're all good rackets! you just have to try them to find out more.
can someone help me? i am thinking of buying a new racket idk what should i buy i am choosing between nanoflare 700 or astrox 88 tour. i am a doubles player that is good at front court ang weak at the mid court ang my racket now is apacs with a 4knots and 25-27
Its all down to personal preference so its up to you 🙂
Can you suggest me a good bat under 5k? Medium level player
I believe all the Play price range rackets are all good 👍 so I'd recommend them!
astrox 88DT compared to 88ST which one is more head heavier?
I think they are almost identical to each other from the samples I've tested.
Oh well I'm here again to ask about your opinion again sir 😂I've decided to try out the exbolt 63 but now I'm in a dilemma of choosing the Astrox 88D pro or the Astrox 100 ZX which would you recommend?
😂 you know I’m gonna point you towards the 88D Pro lol!
@@CKYew I just saw the comments and replies on the videos and saw your recommendations so i was expecting xD
Tnx for the reply tho looking forward to the next video
Haha it’s gonna be 🔥
Which is more similar to 88D Pro in terms of performance the 100 game or the 88 D game?
The 100 Game would be closer in terms of head heaviness but the feeling for both the 88D and 100 Game is different compared to the 88D Pro model.
Is the 100 game head heavier than the 88S pro also?
@@rajanedward did u find the answer to this question sir?
No. The 88S Pro is head heavier than the 100 Game
@@CKYew and I would assume the 99 game is head heavier than the 100 game? Thanks for the response!
Cant decide between 88s pro and d pro I am using a voltric which is very head heavy and my arm hurts and I get sluggish in the middle of my game I need a lighter racket that still packs a punch 👊 I am using the voltric 200 taufik.
Currently using the 3u model
Both 88S Pro and 88D Pro in 4U will be much faster.
What string is good for the 88d tour?
Your fav string would be a good string 👍🏼 mine is the Aerobite
@@CKYew one more thing which is better for both singles and doubles 88d tour of 88d game? Thnk you
how different ax 88 play vs 88 game?
I’ve not managed to test the Play models for the 88’s yet. Coming soon!
Thanks for the review! The positioning on the Yonex racquet matrix is a real help with understanding the balance. Just wondering if there a difference on the power generation for a similar full swing hit and short sudden strike hits... And recovery after hit.
All of them felt good on full swings. The ones which I said were head lighter will have easier recoveries👍🏼
@@CKYew ic ... So Yonex trademark not compromised for lesser models... What about quick wrist flick shots? Any different between them in terms of power and exact control?
@@imataquito005 Of course there's a difference of power & control from model to model so its important to try it for yourself :)
@@CKYew hmm.... Managed to try the 88s pro... It was actually very good... I wonder why ppl have been complaining about the lack of power...🤔 Hopefully I'll get a chance to try the 88d pro... Kinda excited since it's touted to have much more power....
@@imataquito005 Niceeeeeee! If you loved the power from the 88S Pro, you'll be amazed with the power from the 88D Pro!
I just start using 88D Tour for the 1st time. I don't get the feeling yet. Want to try another match with it.
Niceeeee, what strings do you have it with?
Been using the 88D Play for a few months and its really great for an intermediate player like me. But, is it worth it to upgrade to Pro, or at least Tour? As in Malaysia the price is quite expensive for us so want to know is the difference really that big or not?
If you liked the Play, the Pro will be a nice upgrade.
I am an intermediate level player who is good at smashing. Game series fits my budget.
Should I choose Astrox 100 Game or Astrox 88D Game?
The 88D Game will have a slightly lighter head than the 100ZZ version so will be easier to play with.
please make a video about comparing with previous racket variants like 68 or 38 D/S... ahahahaha
The UK doesn't have these 38/39 and 68/39 models so I won't be able to do those comparisons :(
@@CKYew that's too baadd 😔 have an astrox 39 now and considering to buy 88d game (or 100 game) and actually would be awesome if you could make a comparison :(
@@eliezerjk90 have you seen my other Pro/Tour/Game racket comparisons? I think you'll also like the 100 Game too!
@@CKYew yes I watched them 😁 I meant was comparison between astrox 39 with 88d game or 100 game... But from your reviews I guess 88d game would suit me better than 100 game as I play mostly double and don't rely much on my smash (use my smash sparingly to kill the point)... Just curious, from your experience, between 88d game and 100 game, which one have better control?
@@eliezerjk90 I would agree, I would pick the 88D Game too as its slightly easier to play with compared with the 100 Game. Faster too.
