So, I know the gays as a whole took the other MLP song “Discord” as one of our anthems, but why wasn’t it this one? Conservative religious people always think that shoving heterosexuality down our throats and threatening us with hell would keep us from being LGTB. But obviously that’s not the case. The lyrics of this song say “silly ponies can’t reform what was already so real (surreal?), you can try to change my ways for the rest of all your days, but I can’t change the way I feel” LIKE COME ON THATS GOT QUEER UNDERTONES TO IT! YOU CANT TELL ME IT DOESNT!!! Aside from that, religious people always think that being gay is sinful and that we’re always so flamboyant and against the norms just like the lyrics of this song suggest throughout most of it. And let’s not forget how that’s referenced in “did I get lost along the way? Lose my mind for a new identity” as so many queer folk have had to do while being in the closet in order to be accepted. I could go on, but I’ve run out of words to properly convey it as I’m tired and I’m just going to continue listening to this song on a loop. 14 year old Carol listened to this over and over again because she still didn’t understand that she was bi, but now that I’m older, I’m happy I can understand it more. I hope it does the same for other queer kids 💜
Upon listening to it again, I forgot to mention the “guess what I wasn’t born that way” and it really just cemented this as my comfort queer song. Goodnight internet, I’m gonna go imagine myself making a music video or cover of this for the gays ✌️
