Directive 4 was, in fact, mentioned in the very beginning of act 2, when Morton asked him his prime directives. He lists the three that Morton was expecting, but "Directive 4: Classified" was flashing in Robo's field of vision.
This film has a really good pace to it. They really don’t waste any time with exposition. They just throw you into the world and let you see what it’s all about
One reason I love this movie is that even though the director respects the story and characters and never cheapens them for laughs, there IS a ton of satire wrapped around it. The happy-talk news anchors, the idiotic TV shows ("I'd buy that for a dollar!"), the commercials (6000 SUX, Nuke-Em, etc.), and the bizarre police/corporate symbiosis all take aim at the late-80's zeitgeist with hilarious effect. I live in Dallas where the movie was shot, so there's an extra layer of fun in seeing familiar Dallas landmarks in "Old Detroit," especially since the OCP headquarters is actually Dallas City Hall with a matte-painted tower added on top. So, yeah. It's not a spoof, and it doesn't disrespect sci-fi, but it's definitely satirical in addition to telling a compelling story well. (I also never understood the deal with Dick Jones's stretchy arms at the end. Part of me thinks it's a flaw, and part of me thinks it's on purpose, but I've never been able to figure out why.)
I'm a little bit inclined to think the stretchy arms may be intentional, as there's no way the director wouldn't have noticed how weirdly long they were. It's hard to miss, and he would have viewed this footage dozens (if not hundreds) of times during editing. My best guess is that nearly every death scene includes an element of dark humor in it, and we feel differently about the dark humor depending on who's dying. Sometimes it makes it more horrifying, sometimes it leaves us with mixed feelings, and sometimes it adds to the sense of vindication.
Right, I did make points on how it's not a satire, I didn't think of the tv anchors etc... you are right, but it respected the story so I can't call it a spoof. I guess this franchise comes with satirical elements. maybe from what I received from seeing Robocop fight Ninjas this one was very serious in my eyes. those linguine arms too funny. "Detroit" ha-ha location in movies is always shifty. thank you for your comment.
Out of all the RoboCop reaction, you sir, you're my favorite. Keep up the good job. The drug warehouse bust scene is so legendary, especially Robo's no look shooting style to the criminals, like Magic Johnson no look pass, but with bullets.
@randomlyreactandreviewfirstEzy also take note from that scene Robo's attack method. Before he starts shooting he scans the threats and then he proceeds to shoot the ones with the biggest guns 1st.
Robocop predicted the future in multiple ways. Robocop's USB spike predated USB drives by 9 years. The DVD-R Bob got from Dick Jones predated them by 10 years and the privatization of public services.
Video CD's were actually a thing before the proliferation of DVD. Though you had to use them on a computer at first, there were standalone VCD players.
I think what makes this movie GOAT'd is the space it sits in the 80's aesthetic place. It's super 80's, but just a little future. It's super punk, but coorporate, and it leans into consumerism I think. It's the same type of universe I imagine Cyberpunk living in, Streets of Rage, or anything that's just a little retrofuture but hella grimey. Robocop is futuristic as a hero, but honestly, human beings are waaaay more mobile. He's this slow, built for firepower only UNIT. A LOT OF PEOPLE miss the looming doom for Murphy when Bob Morton explained his RoboCop project to the old man. Especially when he said he restructured the police department and PLACED PRIME CANDIDATES ACCORDING TO RISK FACTOR. The movie took pains in the first sequences to explain Murphy was transferred because of OCP. And no it's not cheesy when Emil recognized him because not every policeman say that phrase. Awesome reaction, nonetheless. 👍
Plus when Murphys walking through the precinct changing room you hear a one guy say “try getting a med vac after your jammed up”. But we see a chopper bring Murphy to the hospital, which means they must of been fast because they still tried to resuscitate him.
@@Paul77ozee Or maybe that's just part of the protocol to preserve the body as quick as possible after death. That's what they implied or said with Cane in Robocop 2.

BTW, it wasn't his first day in the force. he was transferred from another precinct, although they did welcome him to hell, so he might have underestimated the danger there. Most of the criminals we see look more like psychopaths and that seems the main reason for them to turn into criminals. Making money seems to be a secondary motive.
yeah, his body was well protected, those cops put all the bullets in him. I did say when Murphy arrived that he was from a different precinct. If it wasn't about the money corruption is what Dick jones and Clarence lived for. thanks for your comment.
If you pay close attention you can see the scar on the skin on his forehead from when Clarence had shot him so that was his real face. They also said the food paste was because he had a "rudimentary" digestive system to sustain his organic systems. Presumably that means he isn't equipped to chew and digest more complex foods. I don't think the movie ever specified what other organic parts he had inside the armored torso but presumably there had to be at least one lung to oxygenate the blood for the bran, itself, and any other remaining organs but the film did make it clear that artificial hearts were not a problem. There also has to be oxygenated blood blow and nutrients supplied to the skin for the face to keep it alive but give what the back and sides of his head looked like I would guess the skin is sitting on top of an armored skull and shooting it with anything short of the giant guns from the end of the movie would only damage the skin so it isn't a real vulnerability and the eyes were shielded.
They foreshadowed the Directive 4 near the start of the movie. When Robocop was looking over his primary directives there was a directive 4 that was unknown. This movie was ahead of its time back in 87, and satires things that seem a bit familiar just a few years ago. The social commentary and all.
You know what's crazy? The CEO of the company is only ever referred to as "The Old Man." No one ever refers to him by name and everyone at OCP gets scared when he gets mentioned.

Since no one mentioned it, (unless I missed it) to answer your question about the gun it is a heavily modified Beretta 93R which has semi-automatic and three round burst fire modes. The 3rd ROBOCOP film (the one your thinking of) has a different writer, & Director hence the different tone, & was rated pg 13 The "Ninjas" were Japanese Robot Assasins...TERMINATOR type creations, it's true there are things wrong with the 3rd film, BUT it can be interesting for it's main plot line- they are forcing the poor out of their homes now (as happens in the real World) Gentrification, OCP is about to go bankrupt, & towards the end the Police don't strike they quit & join the citizens against the military fascist "rehab squads, sent by OCP
|On the first viewing of ROBOCOP, Many viewers are shocked both by the graphic violence, but also the lack of humanity, which stays through out the film, it can take a while to understand that this is the BIGGEST point being made de-humanisation, the film is only a small extension of the reality of life in the 80s, which was an Arctic Winter, for the minority that was there, when it all peaked come the end of the decade, & again now in the developed World, were heading towards Fascist elected Governments, again
out of millions upon millions of police interactions every year they only kill a handful of 'unarmed' people, and if you actually read those individual cases the vast majority are justified in that the person was a direct danger to others or using something as a weapon like a vehicle. its actually an amazingly tiny ratio given how many police interactions there are total.
It's not just a handful by a long shot, and the rate of police shooting unarmed Black folks in this backwards country is 3 times higher than that of unarmed white folks. Unfortunately, the police tend to be glorified in many Hollywood movies, when in reality a lot of them don't deserve the accolades. The bad ones make life so much harder for the good ones.

The dudes shooting at robocop in the ocp parking area would have been mercenaries as the cops couldn't be counted on as unquestioning stooges.
One of my favorite movies, Robocop 2 wasn't bad but don't bother with Robocop 3 (it doesn't exist).
Good reaction to an 80s movie!
thank you for the info and the support.
First one is great. Second one has it's moments. Third one sucks. The remake was just kinda 'Meh.'
Wow, didn't pay attention that Directive 4 was listed earlier in the movie. Another one to add to the Not Recommended list of dumb RUclipsrs 😇
lol, I'm not intending on watching every moment of the Movie! I have to keep up with my rerecording, my camera, I'm talking, and cutting out parts. I just do highlights for my subscribers to watch! I'm not here to please some stranger I didn't ask to click on my channel (WTF) who is upset about free content you picked to watch on the internet! lmao (weird behavior!) I'm here to entertain my community, not review every single point of a movie I miss stuff all the time, you're not watching with a camera in your face so judge people that are?! (Strange!) this is so bizarre you can just go to your favorite channel, but you waste your time on a stranger's page you don't like. So, who is actually the Dumb one.
The 3rd ROBOCOP film (the one your thinking of) has a different writer, & Director hence the different tone, & was rated pg 13
The "Ninjas" were Japanese Robot Assasins...TERMINATOR type creations, it's true there are things wrong with the 3rd film, BUT it can be interesting for it's main plot line- they are forcing the poor out of their homes now (as happens in the real World) Gentrification, OCP is about to go bankrupt, & towards the end the Police don't strike they quit & join the citizens against the military fascist "rehab squads, sent by OCP
couldn't read pass the first line felt full of Spoilers.
you probably wont be watching the 2 sequels, any way@@randomlyreactandreviewfirstEzy
6:20 error in editting???
what happened I didn't see?
44:23 Basil Poledouris, if you liked his job here, you definitely should listen to the soundtrack he composed for "Conan the barbarian" from 1982 you´ll love it too!
hey thanks. I will check for that. ok later.
