He actually was not even considered for the role until he wrote a letter to the director convincing him to cast him. It’s amazing because _A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes_ hadn’t been published yet and he nailed the character.

Actually, the book makes the distiction about the seam people being darker than the ones not born there. If not, then the author wouldn't need to make the contrast between the people of district 12, the seam people having olive skin and the others having pale skin. FYI, having olive skin doesn't mean they're not white if thats what you're worried about. Italians and Greeks have olive skin too.

A lot of Mediterranean Europeans have tan to olive skin tones yet they are considered white (except to racists who only think Northern Europeans are actually white). It's possible that Katniss, her father and others from the Seam have Mediterranean lineage like Italian or Greek. Wouldn't be too far fetched as those areas do have a high Italian population especially in the New York area.

Yes! I loved Sam Claffin long before he was cast as Finnick and I thought he didn't match the description, but THE ACTING sold it 100%. Other actors did amazing job as well!
