Central Bank cannot bring inflation in Nigeria down. The simple reason is that Nigerian inflation is supply side inflation but every orthodox economist seems to believe that every inflation is caused by over supply of money which requires fiscal and monetary tools to deal with . He talks well, it's one thing for IMF and rating agencies (by the way full of orthodox economists) to make forecasts another thing is what is happening in the real economy. When blood is on the street grammar is of no use as often said I have a problem with Washington concensus policies for developing nations. It has not worked for any developing country since 1980. I hope it works for Nigeria this time. It must be remembered that we tried it in the 80s ( structural adjustment programme) I listened to the whole interview I did not hear emphasis on production and manufacturing. There is very little monetary and fiscal policies will do without complete overhaul of credit allocation in favour of manufacturers. Central Bank needs to be in bed with finished product manufacturers and exporters. Though outside his remit a lot needs to be done at the sub-regional levels in terms of farming and food production
Now, what are we doing to persecute those involved in submitting the invalid claims. Isn't that a crime against the nation. When we start punishing bad behaviours and rewarding good behaviours. If we don't do this (reward good behaviours and punish bad behaviours), someone will come tomorrow and commit the same crime. It is not about not just paying those criminals.

@testingoyay4648 young man, respect is reciprocal. Its not about slavery or culture. Market indiscipline will always impend positive policy outcomes. Economic participants not adhering to regulations , policies and rules distort market practices, which in turn limit the capacity of policies to achieve set objectives. Let's be disciplined in Nigeria. Rules are weak. Institutions are weak. Impunity needs to be curbed. We will not make progress until we begin to sanction bad behaviour. Much of our national problems stem from this - inability to enforce rules. $2.3bn fx contracts were identified as fraudulents. Who are the individuals, firms, banks, and staff of the CBN that aided it? Does the law not have provisions for dealing with such issues? Why hold back from unleashing the law? Look, bad behaviour is so entrenched in the Nigerian system.

I am not a fan of Buhari, but he was onto something with cashless policy. People were selling their dollar to get Naira then. Scarcity creates value. make Naira scarce, and its value will increase.

Nigeria always take one step forward and ten backward. This reform is no doubt a great move, but wait until the North gets there, we will go backwards again to the old back door business. Just wait and see. And since then no crude was refined in Nigeria and we’ve spent billions since then to “refurbish” those refineries.
This is reason why some people don't want we Yoruba people to govern this country, if Yoruba had ruled before now, the country would have been on a right track but it's too late. We are not the same, we only want to make a level playing field for everyone to go there way peacefully.

All these amazing talk and plans then one crazy Tinubu boy tells him Oga dat tin will not favour us o! Down the drain goes everything. What a nation... Damn!!!
How would you expect investors to invest in a country where there's no light, security and lack of direct policy from the government. Nothing will work under such situations Mr CBN governor!
Cardoso, thank you for the Cardosofication of Nigeria economy. Posterity will judge you and Tinubu
I too wish you well Mr. Governor
This interviewer with the cross legs lacks basic etiquette and gentlemanly conduct. Even without that, common sense should have told him to sit upright with both feet to the ground instead of sitting like a rebellious school boy.
not everyone shares the same culture and not everyone has a slave mentality to be shaking before everyone...
Really? That’s all you took from the whole interview. So sad people like you still inhabit planet earth.
@testingoyay4648 young man, respect is reciprocal. Its not about slavery or culture. If the CBN governor sits down and carries himself in a respectful manner, there is no reason for a journalist to sit in this way. It shows a lack of decorum and basic etiquette. Unfortunately this is where Nigeria is today where people like you make excuses for bad behaviour.
@@BroadwayBully1 old man your norms are not my norms and it doesn't seem that the cbn governor has a problem with it. so go eat some eba with your problems...yeah it's sitting cross legged that's the problem of Nigeria..I'm sure if he plants both feet on the ground naira would suddenly make it to 200 naira to a dollar and kidnapping will suddenly stop... Talk about majoring in the things that don't matter. Can't build a simple tool to save their lives but it's cross legge that's the problem...
Mxm... who unnecessary respect help?
Hope Rufai can watch and learn how to conduct an intelligent interview
Exactly. 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
What’s is an intelligent interview
Good confidence building discussion. Consumer confidence is the major ingredient of GDP.
How do the BDC get their FX? Is that not the first question the CBN should be interested in?
Let's see if he can help us out of this mess.
Depends on institutions
Lol someone is sinking you into more mess and you are saying let's see😂😂😂 what naive statement
@slashtp2 , your comment epitomises "ignorance is BLISS". SMH!
@@wahabodusola6484 and your reply to my statement is absurdity
@@wahabodusola6484 is your country not sinking or not??
Will they let this man do the job??? Will they. That is the problem.
Honestly, the sitting position of this arise interviewer is not appropriate. See the way the governor is sitted with respect. Respect should be reciprocal
Cardoso is not an economist but, on the basis of the questions that he was asked, I surmise that he has tried, at least to clearly articulate the basic but fundamental issues. Other issues could be raised later
LoL 😂😂 peelee economist
It is called central BANK of Nigeria. A banker who is economics-savvy is needed to run it. Within the bank , there are white collar economists whom the CBN governor superintends over and confers with in all the CBN' decision making. Spear us any jungle talk in the 'later'.
He mentioned 2.4billion were not okay. Shouldn't those found to be illegal prosecuted?
I am not convinced about anything yet. We have tonnes of Nigerian elites who are experts in talking and proffering solutions verbally. But do the talks actually materialize in transferable benefits to the masses? Never!
Very impressive presentation indeed
Impressive all round...
Very professional
Hyper inflations and corruptions of different department in Nigeria couple with very weak economy, foreign manufacturers and investors are leaving Nigeria so please stabilize FX, clean corruptions and improve income for ordinary Nigerians.
I feel sorry for the working class of Nigerians where their salaries remain the same as few years ago and Naira went from 640-680 to 1400-1500. I hope the leaders should know the real problem of ordinary Nigerians and solve the problem now and not just talks. 🙏🙏
Where were NNPC and all MDAs sending their receipts before if not CBN? Can NNPC account for oil receipts for the past 8 years? Is Emefiale the only fall guys? How many out thieves have been jailed?
Why is the reporter folding legs and looking uncomfortable asking a very important economic and metal questions? And see how relaxed and gentlemanly the CBN gov. Looks? Shows he’s ready and prepared to share thoughts about how to fix the Naija economy. Please reporter next time be more respectful of the office and leave a great personal perception. Overall a great exchange and good job🇳🇬💯👍👍
I am not a fan of Buhari, but he was onto something with cashless policy. People were selling their dollar to get Naira then. Scarcity creates value. make Naira scarce, and its value will increase.
Imagine the interviewer posing in his chair as if he's the governor of central bank..
It is part of the job. He should look confident to be able to get the best out of the Governor. When an interviewer appears timid, the interview doesn't really get right info.
Every job is important. In other climes, they both earn the same pay range. By the way, how has that affected the quality of the interview?
@@LekanFaromika your first few statements maybe correct....but ,come on we are Africans, our mannerisms and attitudes to what we do matters ....
This is not a good sitting posture to start with..
Disrespectful
Abeg let him express his freedom or do you want him in a straight jacket
This is a good videoo
We need action people are suffering
What did Tinubu or Cardoso did wrongly? You people just don’t like Tinubu! Even the American federal reserve Cheif will not do more than this!
Yes. We dont like criminals
It's delusional to think he's taken charge, reconnecting with his roots at Arise TV. In reality, his stance wasn't meant to convey the impression many of us assumed. Instead, he adopted that posture to exude authority, which, frankly, came off as a bit silly. Unfortunately, our elites, including PhD holders and the well-read Arise TV staff, will dismiss this reality that clearly points them toward the truth. As Nigerians, we are traditionally and culturally nurtured with strong moral values. Dr. Reuben Abati, it's essential to teach your people to present themselves with decorum.
Your comment here is baffling......what does that have to do with the substance of the interview?
@@Kareem-BabaDon't mind them, na posture Nigerians wan chop
Nigeria always take one step forward and ten backward. This reform is no doubt a great move, but wait until the North gets there, we will go backwards again to the old back door business. Just wait and see.
When Obasanjo was leaving in 2003, he had concluded plans to sell some refineries to private sector so that crude oil can be refined in Nigeria, but a northerner called Yaradua came in and cancelled the deal. And since then no crude was refined in Nigeria and we’ve spent billions since then to “refurbish” those refineries.
How do we deer dollars into dom account so we can buy services online
Great interview but strengthen institutions is also the key to do with all the infractions in the stems . Impunity affect all sectors
Manufacturers can not increase price enough to cover up the free fall of naira thus forces the manufacturers to closed down and loose jobs.
NNPCL needs to go to Warri or PH for effective operation.
This is reason why some people don't want we Yoruba people to govern this country, if Yoruba had ruled before now, the country would have been on a right track but it's too late. We are not the same, we only want to make a level playing field for everyone to go there way peacefully.
Get inside the house and keep mute. This space is for people with intelligence.
This guy is sound
Just like Fashola who was in Lagos, I hope he will be allowed to work and not be rubbished like Fashola by Buhari
Every one should remember this same man was part of the ream that delivered Lagos treasury to Tinubu. Yemi Edu and Dele Alake inclusive.
The customs are using the black market rates for duties.whats he taking about
The solution to stop downfall of naira to reduce corruption of looting Nigeria Treasury by bearable minimum by your politicians simple
He sounds like prof yemi Osinbajo 😊
They're friends
Osinbajo a professor of law watched while Buhari condenmed the judiciary to irrelevance, by disobeying one court order to another. Nigeria's problem is not lack of competent hands it is corruption and lack of political will to do the right things
@@nathanmacalfred3659 Oga this grammar you’ve have blown has no relevance to my comment ooo. Una too like dey talk. Buhari govt is now gone. Focus on now n what the cbn Governor is saying please

Two much grammar, we need action. Where is the proceed of subsidy removal?
cease domicilary account, Nigeria eh
Can this man tell about the money expessed on IDP Interventions monthly.
My fear is this Deloitte again under Tinubu. Deloitte! Deloitte!! Deloitte!!!
I laugh at people commenting about the interviewers posture than focussing on the content of the interview
As a journalist, if your viewers are more concerned about your appearance than the substance of your interview, you have failed at your job. This is why knowledge of interview etiquette is important.
If you're still believing these people well it's your choice, from what im seeing on ground it's just try and error

Why do you make Dollar a legal tender in Nigeria, dollars should be gotten at point of exit in our airport, and how did Dangote source his dollars for purchasing if crude oil?
