Love the attention to detail and how to fix those small trouble spots. Also love that this started 100% from scratch and pulled pieces into create the complete project.
Tom, start to finish is the only way to go my friend. Glad you enjoyed this one.
Very helpful! I created my first G Code last night with V-Carve tutorials I found online... yours shows me more than those did and was a lot shorter! Having worked with graphics a lot and AutoCAD, I didn't need a lot of the unnecessary stuff the other tutorials showed, just how to operate V-Carve!
Thanks Jonathan. That’s exactly why I made this tutorial! There are so many of us out there who already understand the basics. We just need to know how to get there! What was your fir G-code project generated?
Very helpful. At 13:08 you discuss cleaning up the nodes in a bulb by “making a window, right to left ….” Not sure exactly what you are doing there. A bit more specificity would be very helpful. Don’t mean to nit pick. Your videos are terrific. Thanks for your insight and help.
Hi PD. I explain this in other videos. To put it simply, when going right to left, anything the pick box touches gets selected. When going left to right, only things WITHIN the pick box are selected. Hope this explains it.
Thank you for taking the time to help the beginner, I have learned much I didn't know, I enjoy your style of teaching
Flowergrammy, you are so welcome my friend. Keep working hard and you will learn so much in this CNC journey that you are on.
Good job still working on my machine. VFD and ball screws will be in soon. thanks Garrett.
Excellent. Can't wait to see it complete. you know you have to send pictures!!!
@@IDCWoodcraft will do
Well after our chat my order went in for the E4 this morning and it has shipped. My Christmas present is on its way . I went with vcarve desktop.
Perfect combo. I am excited for you. PLEASE>>>let meknow when it arrives. And if you get a chance, drop those guys at bobs...let them know someone out here loves their product.
Love this video as a newbie trying to learn how to make new projects. Please do share the Merry Christmas project. Thank you
I'm glad it was helpful my friend! Shoot me an email and I'll look into if I have that file laying around still!
Very useful discovered a lot about node editing manipulation of images once converted to vectors to in order to improve tool paths many thanks
Appreciate the help
You are very welcome, my frined!
Newbie here, loved the video. thanks for taking time to produce it. I subscribed so I get the other ones as you do them, thanks again.
Hi Stephen. Thank you and welcome to the community. Ready to learn CNC? Let's do this!
Love the jeep sign in the back
queble11, Thanks for noticing! That jeep sign is one of my favorite projects. It's great to bring a bit of my interests into my workspace.
Very helpful. Thanks loads!
Bret, you are so welcome my friend.
Thank you sir. Very informative.
MoeyD786, You're welcome! I'm glad you found the information helpful.
Great video !
rotorrabbitfpv, Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you so much for sharing this!
butter6689, you are so welcome brother!
Fantastic Videos! I just bought my first CNC secondhand (Shark HD Diamond version). It is older but still works great. Your videos have been so helpful to me and I want to thank you! I do have one question: The Etsy Files for the Merry Christmas block are no longer available. Is there another place to access teh file to get the Gcode? thanks again, look forward to watching more of your videos and contributing where possible.
Jack, sorry brother I don't have this file anymore. Since I switched over computers I've lost a bunch of files in the process! I'd recommend searching etsy for svg files that are similar brother. Here's a link that I think you'll find helpful →www.etsy.com/search?q=merry%20christmas%20svg.
@@IDCWoodcraft Thank so much for the quick reply. The link is very helpful!!
Hello, Garrett! Nice channel. I am brand new!
Brett, Welcome brother! Happy to have you here in the amazing world of CNC!
I wish when people do videos to help the beginners that they wouldn't go so fast. My goodness many of us who come on here are green and yet the person who is doing the video act like they're in the INDY 500 or the Daytona. PLEASE, for heaven sakes SLOW DOWN! We're not a good as you are nor our as we knowledgeable! Thank you!
Hey Rex, sorry you're having a hard time following along. Sometimes I just get a little excited teaching I get carried away! A tip that might help is to click the little gear button on the bottom right of the video, then click "play back speed". From there you can change how quick the video plays. Hope this helps brother!
You can slow replay speed
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to make it for beginners like me.
Question, when I convert my bitmap to vectors, I can’t select individual vectors like you do when you’re “cleaning up” the light bulbs or how you took the words out of the Holly image. When I click on the light bulb or Holly image I downloaded, I’m unable to seperate lines in the vector? Any ideas what I’m missing?
The reason you can't select individual vectors is because you bitmap trace came in grouped. Select the vector, right click and ungroup. Then you'll be able to select individual vectors. Have fun!
@@IDCWoodcraft thank you so much!!!!
@@IDCWoodcraft Thank You , Thank you! I was really struggling with this
complete newb here. do you have a video on how to save your project and put it on the machine?
Jason, sorry brother I don't have a specific video like this yet but I do have it on my video to-do list!
Wonderful video, brand new NEWBIE here. Looking to buy software and VCARVE DESKTOP seems the way to go. My question is does it come with a postprocessor and what types of GCODE does it generate? I have a homebrew kit that takes GRBL ( RAZBERRY PI) now but once I get going will probably want to upgrade. I've read the Pro version offers multiple versions. So I want to be careful how I spend my money on the software. Want to use a dedicated computer with it also, any special requirements. Graphics cards, size RAM, ect. Any advice will be well appreciated. 80 years old and trying to keep my mind working in all gears. As they say use or loose it. Thanks again in advance
Bulldog, every version of Vcarve comes with post processors for almost every machine imaginable including your very popular grbl in both inch and metric formats. You should be set to go in regards to post processors for your machine.
As for the computer, Vectric doesnt demand quite a lot of processing power to work very well. Any dedicated modern laptop running windows 10 or higher from a name brand company should be perfect for you!
Garret on the cable for the lights why not use a 60 degree bit for more small line? Is this for a personal preference or what prevents to have a smaller carve with a smaller bit?... If I understand correctly the idea o this one is to have all cuts with same bit, but would like to know your feedback on this, thank you
Hi Rpoberto. You got it! IT was stricktly to run this with 1 bit.
Garrett could oyu share with us the font you used with the Wealth sign you have in the back round of your videos
Jeff
Hi Resort. Embarassingly, I cannot find it. I've looked. Not sure where I got it from, nor is it in my computer
Thanks a lot
You're welcome Elmin
good stuff,thanks.
Thanks Fred. you're bocoming a noce regular to have around.
I need a program that combines CNC, laser and 3D printer
3, that is a great idea my friend. It would be an amazing piece of software.
How did you get the letters to be darker than the wood?...stain?, or laser...?
Stain using the needle
I use Corel for my Fiber and Co2 lasers.
Can't I continue to do all my ( most anyway ) designing in Corel and just import the .dxf file?
Hi Mad Max. Yes, you can.
@@IDCWoodcraft
Thank you for the answer
Are your v carve videos (for beginners) listed in order somewhere.
StormyShamrockCrafts-iu7tu, I have a guide I've put together to make them easier to find. Here's the pdf of the guide: bit.ly/3mLHGfI
cant wait until I can make something.
You are so close, my friend!
I have a crv file i want to make changes in is there a way to do this?
terrya11, Yes, you can make changes to a CRV file by using VCarve or Aspire software, as they're designed for editing those file types. Simply open the file in the program, make your adjustments, and then save it again. Enjoy your project!
thanks
You're welcome Alma!
Why isn’t it going to carve the rest of the holly and the lights? What am I doing wrong?
Without knowing what your setup is, I can't tell. Send me the file garrett@idcwoodcraft.com
When I turn off the bitmap layer the bulbs and holly completely disappear.
Also when you show cutting the lines in the holly all I can cut are the arcs I drew. And you highlighted something under the holly and deleted it somehow? I have the same holly image as you and can’t figure out how you did that. This is all new to me and you go a little fast for me to keep up. I’ve paused rewinded and watched this video about twenty times and it’s not working for me the way it works for you. Also, I don’t have the font you’re using in my font list. I’m absolutely new to this. First cnc machine first exposure to the software and terminology please pardon my ignorance.
Move the holy to a different layer. Search for my video about layers. It'll explain how to do that and you'll learn a whole lot more!
Just search Vectric layers and you'll see a video with the big letters layers right in the middle of the thumbnail. Watch that video.
The project DXF & SVG file link you provide on Etsy says it's unavailable
Oh. I deactivated it down since Christmas is over. I can put it back up if you would like. Guess I'll have to since I have a video on it.
I'll post on the free files page I started on my website. sign up here, you'll get an email with the link (since it is a private page) and check tomorrow for the file. idcwoodcraft.com/cnc-lp2-free-files/
@@IDCWoodcraft Great! Thank you!

@@rleehamn the website domain was switching. It is up now.
When you mess up how do you undo what you just erased
bennietipton2820, If you mess up in your CNC design software, most programs have an "undo" function, usually accessible by pressing Ctrl+Z on your keyboard. This will typically reverse the last action you took. If you're dealing with the actual material, it's a bit trickier, but you can often sand down the mistake or start over if necessary. Always remember to double-check your setup before cutting!
@IDCWoodcraft danke. Hab es schon. Vollversion gekauft
I don't see the file on Etsy
Hi Tom. I removed the file. Cost ratio was nagative. I guess I'll have to remove the video

This is not for beginners! This is very difficulty?
emrikolofsson1202, take it one step at a time brother! You will get there.
This vid was not very helpful. It moved way too fast for a beginner. You need to slow down and use a simpler sample.
Hey Don. Thanks for the input. This was a very early video. Keep checking out the channel. Your concern will quickly be aliviated
I think I missed it but which bit do we use😊😊
brianwalters8277, for this one consider using a 60 degree v bit and a 1/8" downcut. Here is a link to the v bit: idcwoodcraft.com/products/ultra-clean-cutting-60-degree-v-bit-for-cnc-routers-1-4-shank
