    zt2 w/60" fabricated deck here. 2 years in, and the fabricated deck is literally coming apart at the seams. metal under the exit chute broke off a year ago, metal on the other side is bent backwards and leaves yard scars in reverse, multiple weld pops across the top. have a cub tractor with a stamped 46", and that thing has held up wayyyyy better. stay away from the fabricated decks, they look beefier, but are craptastic.

    I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

  • @greggcarpenter1878
    @greggcarpenter1878 5 лет назад +21

    Maybe the deck vibrations are caused by unbalanced blades ?
    I've heard even new blades need to be balanced, although I've never had that issue on my JD 425.

    • @roadapple66
      @roadapple66 5 лет назад +7

      Yep, unbalanced blades cause vibration like that. The blades can become unbalanced if they (one or more) are bent, sharpened unevenly, or come from the factory bent, misaligned, different weights etc. Another problem that will cause severe vibration is the spindle bearings going out and/or spindle shaft is slightly bent or improperly installed.
      I bought a XT1 46" (with stamped deck) a couple of years ago, and I have not had a problem with it at all. When I first got it home, set it up according to Cub Cadet, and started it up; I was impressed at how smooth it is. When I engaged the blades, the sound changed pitch but there was no vibration to speak of. I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth it ran. I do the maintenance on it, by the book, religiously. I keep accurate records of the maintenance done to this mower. I buy high test gasoline from a station that advertises "NO ETHANOL" in their fuel, but I still use a fuel stabilizer just in case.
      I know a lot of folks on here are used to much better machines, but this was the best the bank would loan me to buy. I researched all the mowers in this price range, and this one was the highest recommended of the bunch. It has been doing a great job for me so far. I mostly just cut my yard, and my neighbors, but I had to cut an empty lot that the weeds and grass got to be waist high. I set the deck at it's highest setting and went through it nice and easy the first pass. After that first pass, I sett the deck at 2.5" and mowed it at a normal speed. It didn't bog down once! I recommend this mower, if it's the most you can afford. I do not know much about the commercial mowers.

      I come from a pusher with over an acre that I never mowed totally with the pusher, (only so much you are willing to mow with a pusher). My yard just got a lot bigger with this machine, in less time, and it is fun!!!. :) A bit over 1 acre I mow now, and my 50" CC works fine for me. Now my biggest problem is, the grass does not grow fast enough between mow's. I would also like to be able to wipe my nose, or take a drink with out stopping. I found I can not remove one hand from a bar, with out going off course when moving. I don't want to stop to blow my nose. :) But that is not much to bitch about.

    Secondly, you say this mower ( zero turn) is designed for very few obstacles? Isn’t the purpose of a zero turn mower is to easily maneuver around obstacles?

      Kevin T I know there is a oil drain hose. Regardless when you pull the filter even after draining oil still goes all over the frame. Blades are balanced so that’s not the issue. Update: 9/02/19
    I've got a few more hours on my ZT1 42", since my initial comment (below). Since then, I've replaced the stock blades with Origon Gator 3 in 1 blades. I sharpened, & balanced them before installing. I don't have the vibration that you mentioned. My mower runs nice a smooth. With the deck adjusted properly, and with freasly sharpened blades @ 35°, the cut quality is just fine. I run at about 3 or 4 MPH, as I'm retired, and in no hurry.
    It took me a little while to realize, that those 2 adjusting bolts for the lap bars, are only ment to balance the left, & right controls while at full speed. I find that I have to push the left bar just about a half inch farther than the right, to go straight. I see no way to get them in sync.
    I've tried using the deck wash feature. It didn't seem to do much good. This summer, we've had more rain than usual, so, I've been mowing grass that wasn't exactly dry. I've found, the best way (that I've tried, anyway) to clean the underside of the deck, is to use a nylon pot/pan scraper. Oddly enough, that works very well, and it just takes a minute per side. Also, it doesn't scratch off the paint. I've seen RUclips videos of guys using metal scrapers, with the end goal of keeping their decks from rusting. Yeah, ok!?
    I'm not a pro, just a residential user. After using this mower every week for a few months now, i see no reason why I wouldn't recommend it to another homeowner, with a decent size lawn that they have to maintain. It's a fine machine!

    I caught this video while on roku and moved to the computer to post this comment. I have the ZT1 50 inch with the Kawasaki and love it, also had a 2008 RTZ 50 and loved that one as well, that being said I can tell you why your having these issues with this mower, first of all you should have bought the 50 because it comes with the aeroforce deck, reinforced with plate steel and it has a lifetime warranty, also the 50 comes with a built in drain tube for draining the oil (you can probably buy this as an accessory for yours). now, as you said this is a residential piece of equipment and your treating it as commercial, I can tell by the way your handling it (extremely rough) the reason you have deck vibration is because your engaging the deck at full throttle, this is causing the motor to burn flat spots in the belt every time you engage it, if your going to treat it like that the next problem your going to have is burnt up PTO clutch, buy a Kevlar belt (there blue and easy to spot) and engage the blades at between 1/4 and 1/2 throttle, then go full throttle after full engagement. I hope your not one of thoes that thinks its ok to move a zero turn mower at idle, transmissions are fan cooled by the drive pullys, only move machine at half throttle or higher... I cant tell you how many times ive seen this mistake made on residential zero turn mowers and its expensive. as for the fuel capacity im not sure if the tank on the 42 is smaller then the 50 or not but I cut 1.2 acres 3 times before refueling is required. as for the cut quality... I took this one through waist high grass, weeds, and a sticker bush... no problem, and I cut my yard with a bunch of trees, 2 buildings, and a fire pit to go around in about 45 minuets with no stragglers

      This manufacture advises engaging the PTO at full throttle. The engagement is actually rougher with any other throttle setting. I also read something about the clutch design (some kid of electronic engagement I think), that likes full throttle engagement more. But if I don't know anything about the clutch myself, how can I believe anybody on the internet? I think I will stick with what the manufacture says. Engage and run/cut only at full throttle. My Kawasaki engine burns about 1.5 gallon per hour by my rough measurement so far (50" deck, stock blades). After a few mows, I do have a few stragglers, but I think it may be my driving. :) I love this machine. I never thought mowing over 1 acre could be fun. :)

I did have a few stragglers but as to be expected due to the height and dampness of the grass. My mower is super comfy and doesn't vibrate nearly as was described in this video. I Love This Mower and I mow just under 2 acres with a lot of obstacles and several hills and slopes. I agree with him on the oil filter placement but a rag remedies this easily. Just for others considering an Ultima and having concerns based on this review, I bought a ZT2 54" with welded deck about a month ago and have had a good experience with it. 1) Cuts my 1.1 acres of grass in 25 minutes with no noticable stragglers (PR, KBG, Fescue mix) at full speed 2) Deck vibration is not noticable or excessive IMO 3) rear tire size is larger and much wider than the ZT1 42" at 20"x12" 4) Hydros are faster and servicable compared to ZT1 5) Engine is a Kaw. I did a lot of research and from a pure spec and price standpoint, nothing competes in the market except for chinese made units with no local dealer support. I would urge people consider the ZT2 over the ZT1. One piece of feedback on hitting the deck when loading - the rear of the fabricated deck floats on it's hangers and will rise up if it contacts anything, it shouldn't go out of level. If the front edge catches then it might be more of an issue. Hope this helps.

    I have a zt1 46 fab deck (70hrs in) and I mow way more then a 15 degree hill, have mowed heaps of 5ft tall river reeds, hit concrete with the deck(no damage), mow full speed with full deck and cuts perfect. No vibrations unless the blades are worn and out of balance.

    So I just mowed 2 achers, that has 20 trees, three buildings, a ditch and creek some side hill but not much in less than an hour with a 50 inch deck. Also, went up and down onto a trailer without hitting the deck. Maybe I'm just that good. Had a
    Toro that couldn't cut half as good as this Cub.

    Mine is awesome. Works on my hill and 3 acres it mows quick. I do not run it at full speed most times because that is like driving your car at a 100 MPH and the saying it doesn't take sharp turns well. Apparently this guy got a lemon or feels like me on a bad day when I haven't had my coffee and poo poos everything. He is thorough and I appreciate his opinion. He makes a video and people that don't know any better will take it as Gospel. Meanwhile this machine has nearly one thousand reviews at tractor supply with a combined rating of 4.8/5. Never mind the hundreds of other reviews on dozens of other sites all giving this machine a great ratings. I'd take my ZT2 of course over this machine but the ZT1 is a beast for what you pay.
