  • As far as we know, the only device that has both formats, MiniDisc and DCC.
It is a double DIN Car Player, made for a Cadillac Deville. We visited Mend It Mark in the UK as he attempted the repair of this unique prototype that would not even power on.

Knowing the history behind the formats, it's like a cat and a dog fused into one body. :D

But in this case it's not entertainment for children only.
By the way, the 45 rpm record and the 33 rpm record initially were different formats too.

Mark is such a master that he verified what it wasn't and worked out it was digital logic thing. Glad your community has come up with the rest of that story! You'll half a Deville's wring loom hanging off that thing by the time your finished! What a journey!

I doubt this will magically fix it, but "12 volt" car audio equipment is actually designed to run on 13.8 volts DC, which is the typical voltage when the engine is running and the alternator is charging the battery. And even when the engine is off, a fully charged car battery typically puts out around 12.7 volts. So 12.0 volts might be a bit too low.

Thanks for the feedback. The voltage did not make any difference unfortunately. We now know, that if we can get the Deville body control module, it should power up.

I would have loved to see a dcc and minidisc combo deck in my car. Dcc sounds awesome and minidisc is great too. I miss the 1990's

Because it is a A/C Delco unit - That is a GM brand. It might have a security code that has locked the unit preventing theft. It might have to be tied to the main computer of the vehicle it came out of in order to be enabled.

Hello my friend dcc musum, I watched with great interest the interesting episode in which you visited Mark in the United Kingdom, in which you presented a very unique model of the wonderful DCC devices, and in which Mark tried to repair the device, but to repair it requires time. I am Mourad from Algeria. Personally, I have a great passion for these devices, but I have no idea about this unique device. I wish you both success in repairing it, and see you with the new ones. I hope to see this device working in the next episode. My regards to Mark.

Knowing that’s a BOSE version of a GM Radio. That’s a higher trim. Those needed a central control module for things like speakers and such. An external power amp. But I have a feeling that Theftlock is the issue. I’ve dealt with those in RDS GMs. I tried the chip removal. Nope. It needs that code from the vehicle it was from. I don’t think that’s a one off either. But GM can re-pair it to a new vehicle to enable to radio. But the effort might just be more than its ever worth. Sadly. Great try guys. Also this might use the CAN BUS system. That’s a whole nother kettle of fish.

Very cool. Once I heard "body control module", it all made sense. Also was wondering about the security code when I saw the "theftlock" label on the front panel. Got my fingers crossed you can get what you need.

I remember working on a RF radio set, could not find the fault, I completely dismantled it. Replaced every component, still nothing. 2 years on and off it completely ruined me! I lost it, bounced the thing of a wall. Hey presto it worked. Still to this day, 25 years on i have no idea what was wring with it.

There was a kind of "DVD" disk that when played, would show a short video, but what you would see is more lije a 3D hologram. I think the reason it wasn't fully produced was due to cost. Do you have one of them, or a video of it? Not sure of its actual name. Thank you 🤓 yes, I have seen it.

I would bet with that temp code, it might do something. I have 3 GM radios that are of this vintage. I can tell one this. This is not a one off prototype. Likely an option VERY seldom chosen in a high end car.

Did take us a long time to find a good connector. Turns out whatever connector you are using, it would not be enough. You need a body control module, so it would work. Can you share a photo video of yours to curator@dccmuseum.com?
