To be fair, it was because of the negative influence of his friend group which he did reject, much to his credit, but that doesn't absolve him of responsibilities for his own choices. He redeems himself when he helps remove the defamation he helped spray about Nancy, by helping her and Jonathan when he accidentally stumbled upon the demogorgon situation, and when he apologized and stopped antagonizing Jonathan (who he later showed no ill will towards in season 2, even when Jonathan and Namcy continued to be friends and even after Nancy breaks up with him for Jonathan). He's made mistakes, but he's a good dude because he had the humility to admit when he's wrong and tried to do the right thing going forward.
It's cute to see Steve's shocked face when Eddie told Steve how highly Dustin looked up to him. I feel like we don't get much interesting dynamic of their friendship in this season cuz they seem went from besties hyped to see each other to snippy. Hopefully we will get emotional scene from them in Part 2 where Steve will address his jealousy to Dustin for spending more time with his new nerd friend Eddie.
I think it’s the fact that deep down Steve was jealous of eddy, he brought it up a couple of times, it’s only when Eddie admitted to Steve that Dustin looked up to him a lot that Steve was genuinely happy
He didn’t say it directly but he was subtle about it, whenever he mentioned eddy, it was like “oh eddy your new best friend…eddy the one you said is cooler than me because he plays your nerd game.”
Their relationship is actually different this season than in previous seasons. In season 3 they are friends, this season they are brothers. Dustin the younger brother is always challenging, questioning, and trying to prove himself to the older brother. While the older brother Steve is always annoyed and has to put the younger brother in his place. You can tell Dustin and Steve are incredibly close because they are always themselves around each other.
It's a sign of a strong friendship when you can get snippy with each other and throw jabs while being safe in the knowledge that both parties have care and good intentions for the other. It's a display of trust.
I loved the part in Season 4 where Eddie told Steve that Dustin thinks he's a badass and worships him. That was so sweet to hear what Dustin thinks of Steve. They are like bros for life.
If they do kill Steve, I want him to sacrifice himself for Dustin. It would be much more emotional then if he died for Nancy as Steve and Dustin have a much closer bond.
When we finished Volume 1 my dad brought up that if they kill Steve, that we need to be ready for Dustin’s reaction because Gaten is a great actor and it’s going to be heart wrenching to see.
