From creator Michael Schur (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Parks and Recreation” and “Master of None”) comes a unique comedy about what makes a good person. The show follows Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell, “House of Lies,” “Veronica Mars”), an ordinary woman who enters the afterlife, and thanks to some kind of error, is sent to the Good Place instead of the Bad Place (which is definitely where she belongs). While hiding in plain sight from Good Place Architect Michael (Ted Danson - “Cheers,” “CSI” - in an Emmy Award-nominated performance), she’s determined to shed her old way of living and earn her spot.

I never considered Sean or the folks from the Bad Place to be evil, at least not in the way humans are. They saw themselves as key to balance in the universe.

It only took us 4 seasons, 800 reboots, and the death of many Janets to get to this point.
hopefully they un-marbleize the Janets. They've already shown its possible. I'd especially like to see the reformed Bad Janet back to help with the new afterlife scheme.

Headcanon: Shawn, like Michael, goes down to earth to live as a human some Bearimys later, and chooses a time before any of this happens in earth time. He becomes a professor (given that he wishes he were a teacher) and goes by the name Kevin Cozner (pretty sure he lifted it straight from the movie star Kevin Costner and made a small change).

A couple of other connections, when he is going to torture michael he gives him a room with only the new yorker which is something kevin reads as we know by the party in b99 where jake tries to talk to him about it, secondly theres a scene and i do not know wjat epidode its in but he says something along the lines of cant you tell im squealing with happiness while showing zero emotion, much like kevin and in turn holt

If you take the quote out of context, it would feel like Michael is speaking to us (the audience) through Shawn, telling us that it's okay to be sad that the show is officially ending, but we have to keep our heads up and move on.
At least, that's what I interpreted.

After rewatching I think the whole show is actually a metaphor for acting and television.
When I first saw the ending I thought the only logical conclusion would be that everything was actually the bad place for Michael.
Because let's be honest, seeing the only friends you have be forced to realise that nothing in the world can satisfy them and suicide is the only answer, while Michael himself is forced to be immortal, watching them slowly dissapear, is torture.
But viewing this show as metaphor for Television the ending makes more sense, as it's a metaphor for when actors decide to move on to another project.
Other motifs also make sense, like the rebooting, the acting the demons and Elenour had to do, the judge (basically God) being obsessed with television etc...
If Shawn's going to be playing roles in people's pre-Good-Place training grounds, does that mean he's playing the role of Kevin in Brooklyn Nine Nine to help improve a bunch of cops? It would explain why those characters are so unusually ethical and caring for police officers, despite their many character flaws. And I could totally see Gina being a demon in a meat suit.
Someone need to write fic like this!
And that could also explain why they strangely face a lot of ethical problems for cops (like in season 6 Hichcok and Scully hide money to help their witness, Amy and Rosa discussion about rape accusation etc)

Such good acting on this show. That's what I love is that you have the perfect combo... writers that can take you to complex or nuanced places, capture the theme and struggle in the characters and their relationships with genuine show-don't-tells, and actors that understand the complexities and have the acting dexterity to convey them. It's like an emotional painting that you suddenly find yourself in after starting from silly or goofy ideas. It's so good.

Love this scene. Two brilliant actors, two brilliant characters. Sort of wish there wasn't music, they should have let the dialogue and the acting speak for itself. Still, an utterly wonderful conclusion to a fantastic pair of character arcs.
Sounds like Crowley. He did every dastardly thing he could think of to become King of Hell just to eventually hate the position and loathe demons.
He missed the actual action and risk it took to get the throne than actually getting it.
This is kinda like squid game when the main villains where just bored

Wow. Michael finally discovered that devil's secret weak point. He is lost when he can no longer get a rise out of his biggest enemy. Michael, or at least the advanced acting talent of Ted Danson, must have really good people skills since he knew the right things to say to change the minds of bad people like Shawn and Eleanor. I didn’t think it was possible for a demon to get board torturing people. Then again when you get quadrillions of people every decade you’d get bored too.
Actionfan19 it’s kind of like doing the same job for 40 years, at first you like it but eventually everything just kinda blurs together and loses all meaning and becomes merely a way to exist, and he’s been doing it it for thousands of years so when something actually different happens it would make sense he’d do anything to preserve that sense of randomness and excitement

I wouldnt say im attracted to him but id lowkey like Marc Evan Jackson if we were coincidentally born around the same time😂 He usually gets casted for a bunch of guest star roles and rarely main star roles yet he still manages to intrigue everyone with his acting considering how he didnt even think of acting in the first place😂 I think ive run out of stuff to watch with him aside from his latest zoom reunion with the good place cast (and more) yesterday.
If this show actually ends we know where in the bad place
if it really was the bad place they'd keep it going until it fizzled out in mediocrity when they ran out of ideas. this is the ending they've wanted ever since the beginning of the show, personally i find that MUCH more satisfying
