    Best jacket i have ever bought, and I say that as someone who had the original Mountain Equipment Changabang, which also had that zip beneath the arms, and it became my favourite feature. I purchased the Eco Shell precisely because of that, and could not be more delighted with it. The design really is superb, 10/10 for me. Getting another, that's for sure.

      Ben, I’m in a dilemma mate! Same as you, my original Changabang XCR bit the dust. Made do with it but I fancy something different. Fed up with run of the mill goretex so was looking at this over the new Lhotse or an Arcteryx Alpha. So I’m guessing you recommend it? I like all the features, seems like a better choice so 11 months on, any bad points or had it worked out as expected? Also, how do you find it weight wise and how is the breathability compared to “normal” mountaineering shells?
      Cheers, Den

    Great jacket, I have one myself that I've owned now for about 2 years. The only thing I wish it had was the hip pockets, but Ive come to use my mid-layer more often by passing my hands through the side zips.

    • @Engearment

      That is a great point! I started putting my hands through the side ventilation zips as well. Works great to get at midlayer pockets for sure. Glad you are enjoying the jacket as well! - Sean

    Would have been interesting to see/hear how it actually performs in the rain! There is so many reviews of this jacket trusting the specs in sunny weather conditions. Reviews in the rain all show the jacket isn’t beating off the rain very well, at least not right out of the box. Went through 3 (!) Keb Eco-Shells that got returned and am now testing the Bergtagen, with already the same problem showing up in just drizzling rain. There is a problem with Eco-Shell that Fjall Raven is getting away with all too easy.

      Hey Ovi, that is a bummer on your experince with this jacket! But, to correct you on how I tested this jacket - I used it over several months here in Colorado. But, I can not always shoot videos in rain and snow LOL. From rain to snow, it did just fine. Not sure why yours failed or what is going over there.

      @@Engearment fair point not to shoot in rain and snow. 😂 I suspect something is happening to the DWR on their way to Vancouver, Canada. (which is where I live)

      @@ovivan79 Thak you sir! I can appreciate how much more moisture you all get up there. And, I LOVE BC. So pretty! I really hope they take care of you and get you set up with the best jacket for your wonderful mountains. Also, I have new microphones that should stand up to rain and snow, so here is to shooting videos in blizzards soon! Take care! - Sean

    Good review mate. Thinking of choosing this over pro shell for mountaineering/skiing 👍

    • @ovivan79
      @ovivan79 4 года назад

      Don’t! A Gore-Tex Pro shell works, and has been trusted for many years. It rattles, feels plasticky etc. but will keep you safe in the mountains.

    I like design, what do you think about durability in comparison with Gore-Tex Pro hardshells?

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  4 года назад +1

      Hey Michael. I think they are about the same. I would venture to guess that whatever material the WPB membrane is used with will be more important than the WPB membrane. In the case of this jacket, it has been as durable as other Pro Shell jackets we have tested. - Sean

    I just bought an XL (online). I'm just under 6'3" and 215 lbs, broad shoulders and it still looks bigger on me than yours does. Strange.

    • @Engearment

      Hmm. Well, this review is for the jacket from a few seasons back. Perhaps they changed the sizing? Or perhaps I have a really bulky upper back and shoulders? Hope you enjoy the jacket otherwise!

      I’m the same measurements, would you get the XL again or try the Large, I don’t mind room for a sweater but I don’t want to be swimming in it.

    • @7rm319
      @7rm319 3 года назад

      @@M1_K3Y I'd get the XL again for sure. Second opinion said it looks great. Just in case you're in the market for the KEB fleece, I got a XXL online final sale just from watching some reviews and guessing on size and it's an absolutely perfect slim fit.

      Thank you very much, was already hard to find a range of Fjallraven before covid so trying to be particular before ordering online, especially when sales can be final sale. Do you miss hand pockets or you get used to it?

    • @7rm319

      @@M1_K3Y I reached for them a couple times then never again. I can see it being a negative for someone who will never have a pack strap around them. I just couldn't pass on the quality and the price I found it at (in Canada).

    I'm needing help to decide on which jacket to get im looking at the keb eco-shell or the skogsO padded jacket. I live in the mountains of Oregon. And just looking for a everyday jacket for fall to winter and spring.

    How is the jacket holding? I heard it can leak over time or even sooner if the rain is hard. How often do you need to apply DWR? I am trying to decide between this one and Goretex from Arcteryx. I need a gear that won't fail on a 5 day hike with rainy days.

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  3 года назад

      We had the jacket for a year or so. Donated it a while back so can not speak on long term performance. I did not encounter the leak issue that some others mentioned. I generally clean and reapply nikwax a few times a season. Hard to beat Arcteryx too, so tough call there!

    How is the fit on this jacket , I am 6ft and about 200lbs was thinking to order a large

      I like the way the XL fits me and I am just a bit larger than you. So the sizing is pretty accurate. Hope that helps!

    Would you compare this to Nortface’s Apex jacket? Is there some type of interior fleece-like liner? I like the design, but I prefer fjall over it.thx

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  4 года назад +1

      Hey Staple Duck. If I am thinking of the NF Apex jacket I used to have, then I can safely say these two jackets are not in the same category. The North Face Apex is a softshell with fleece liner and DWR treatment. The Keb Eco Shell is a hard shell with no fleece backer. I hope that helps you! Thanks - Sean Sewell
