I've watched that video like a 100 times, but I still can't believe that a 12-year-old sang that, live!, two takes only, with hardly any practice (confirmed by the guitarist in an interview).
We can feel the pain in Angelina’s voice, we feel the soul crying…Adele is good, perfect technically, but Angelina has the spirit.
I am a Adele fan. Adele has a shrill/ tinny voice and Angelina a richer, fuller soul full voice than Adele. It sounds like Adele is doing the cover song . This a 12/13 yo child and a world wide well known artist. What more can you say .
Adele version is like a black and white flat screen performance compared to Angelina. Angelina's is liken to a vibrant technicolor 3D performance. Adele gets the credit for the songs creation and Angelina gets the credit for making it other worldly!!

I feel like we should give the guitar player some kudos. He's pretty amazing for a 13-14 year old.
He looks younger, but he was born in Colima, Mexico, in 1992, and this song was recorded in 2018. So he was 26. But no matter, kudos to him for magnifying Angelina's voice with his delicate playing and obvious admiration for her talent.

This was the song that made me realize that Angelina is the best singer I ever heard. And she was 12 here. Give Adele great credit for writing this beautiful, emotional song and for her own version. Angelina makes you forget that one. Angelina has so many incredible covers, but this one stands out-stunningly moving and personal.
What makes Angelina so special, in my opinion, is her interpretation of lyrics. Adele sings this and you feel her pain that life has passed her by. Angelina sings it, and she makes you understand how those lyrics apply to your own life. She makes you feel, not just hear. And she does it with a vocal style and beauty that is absolutely unique.
Adele is a fantastic lyricist.......her lyrics tell a story about her own life. Angelina is very good too.

Angelina’s voice attacks your limbic system and forces an emotional reaction that you were not expecting. It’s the tone in her voice that does this, Elvis Presley had this same ability when he sang Gospel songs. If she ever sings Gospel songs, there won’t be a dry eye on the planet!
When angelina sings she has complete control of her voice. She can hit all the low notes all the way to the high notes. This is what makes her a great singer.

Angelina emotes a piece of music from her whole physical, mental, emotional, spiritual being. She isn't "performing", she is doing what "performers" are attempting to simulate. For that reason, and her vocal prowess, Angelina's versions always hit me in the gut more than other versions of a song.
For me this is the version, but definitely not because I could watch her singing. My first time hearing this song by Angelina (I didn't know the Adele original) was audio only... And it completely wrecked me, that pain, that despair in her voice was even stronger just hearing it in the darkness - it was winter, I sat at my gloomy fireplace with lights turned down, with a nice glass of red wine and just wanted to relax and listen to some beautiful music, and then she came in with all her might, and I even didn't know what happened, my eyes filled with tears within seconds and I started crying like a baby, for like half an hour, listening the song a dozen times in a row, until I was able to calm down and think about what just had happened. The whole experience felt as if Angelina with her voice had torn my heart out of my chest and in the beginning it was very frightening, but then I could "see" or "witness" how she carefully mended it, taking away some pieces that were useless now and adding others that would be more helpful for the future, arranging them all in a more harmonious order and then gently putting it back, my heart, at the place where it belongs and it is needed. That was a deep and spiritual experience and since that day I have become an Angel, I had only known her for a week or so at that time and had listened to a couple of her covers, "I Put A Spell On You", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Yellow Brick Road" and "FeelingGood", so I already knew and loved her voice, but this caught me completely off guard emotionally, only very few times in my life had one specific song such an impact on my whole being... as I said, without seeing her, so maybe that's not the reason you prefer her version, but only because in a way she is much better than Adele, and that is in conveying the true emotion in a song and making us feel it... her vibrato though... Angelinas version turns ones soul inside out
Sebs this is Marc ( Miami)... she did this with one read through and one take! Look she's reading the fricking words off her phone. Nothing more to say this 12 yr. When she does these songs, and there are several with the guartar players, are all done with one or two takes recorded from her den at home. If you go to Alan's ch. he interviewed this guitar player ( I think his last name is Mendez ) who did many of her 12 yr covers.
It's impossible to describe how beautiful and moving this performance was by Angelina. All you can do is listen, experience the beauty, and be moved.
Angelina is very special and remember that English is not her first language.
From the dozens of covers Angelina released over the years, this is my favourite. The song itself, is fantastic, but Angelina found that particular auditory vibration that makes me tear up when I hear it. Some of my other favs are from around this time. Just the shear audacity, and humility of a 12 year old girl, siting in her living room, reading the lyrics to the side, and with only the accompaniment of an acoustic guitar...delivers a version of a song, that emotionally eviscerates the original...which is sung by one of the best female singers in the World, is mindboggling. No matter how many times I've listened, I've done so in awe.

I agree about the comparison with Adele. Adele is singing a beautiful song beautifully, but Angelina sings this song like she's telling a close friend deep, intimate, feelings about her life, and perhaps we listeners feel a little like that close friend empathizing deeply with her.
Bro I felt exactly the same way, in fact, I feel exactly the same way every time I hear her sing this song, and just about any song that she sings, this girl is without a doubt the best female vocalist on the planet, possibly the greatest of all times, and that phrase puts her in the past present and future category lol

Ivan Mendez was Angelina's ( 12y) guitarist in LA in 2018. In an interview with Alan Papier on his RUclips channel, Ivan shared the story behind the cover's creation. In short “Angelina doesn't have a wish list of songs, she spontaneously decides whether she likes a song. After hearing this song she says great song and downloaded the lyrics. Ivan admitted that he didn't know this song but the melody wasn't difficult and was able to learn it quickly. “. Then the cover was recorded in one take, Angelina sang the song here for the first time according to her arrangement, without rehearsing beforehand. 💯 AJ 💯
When I heard her singing Billie Holliday song at 7 years old, it was shockingly true understanding of what she sang! All these years she gave us her personal interpretation of music, never just repeating what the best of the best

Beautiful and expressive as Adele's version is, the emotion seems to be somehow general or impersonal in nature, whereas Angelina seems to sing to me, directly, and touch something in my heart. She communicates emotion by invoking my own. I guess that's as near to expressing it as I'll ever get. Thanks for the great reaction.

In 100 years when Angelina's story will be made, she will talk about her periods as for the great Picassos, etc ... This is Angelina's period in her living room. The Norwegian living room and the other American one.
To make it even more impressive: these recordings were rather informal and improvised. Ivan would come to her house, he would hang out with the family and in the evening they would quickly decide on a song, practice a little and record usually in one take. Unless, per Ivan own words, he would mess up and than a second take was needed. You can see her glance at the lyrics from time to time and get some words a little wrong.
Still despite all that, the give this amazing performance. I agree that her voice has more warmth and depth to it than Adele. I think she has a lot of natural melancholy to her voice and that fits with what you called that she turns it into a sad song.
I love Adele’s singing and she is an amazing creator of very personal songs, but Angelina makes me feel the song also more than Adele does.
If you want to see a song being transformed just by tempo and her melancholy, listen to her and Ivan performing ‘Stay’ by Rihanna.

Angelina doesn't need to sing FULL VOLUME to underscore the emotion of the lyrics . Soft, thoughtfully sung, she sounds as if her heart is brimming with sadness and remorseful... She's giving the original version it's place, but she's giving the LYRICS theirs... She almost weeps them... This youngster elevated her performance way beyond the original artist. Just sayin'😉. That feeling is being picked up and carried into the situation the lyrics describe...
And then she instantly comes out of her rendition with her child smile, wave and cheerful "Bye!!". She kills me 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Did you catch the expression on the face of the guitarist? He's smiling like "I can't believe I'm sitting here." He was interviewed by a RUclipsr who exclusively covers Angelina Jordan. The family would have the musician sit down and just chill out for a while and talk about songs they like. Then there would be a brief introduction to the song they had selected and then BAM right into recording. No big prep, no extended practice. Sometimes, Angelina would be reading the song AS SHE SANG IT. Musicians love working with her.

The expressions on Ivan's face are common. He mentions in his interview w/ Alan Papiere that he would sometimes lose his place in the song because he was so entranced by the beauty of Angelina's singing. Almost all of the songs he recorded with her were done in one take, just spur of the moment. And if they did require a second take, he said it was invariably his fault, that Angelina almost never messed up. I agree, to me Angelina's performance is just more soulful and packed with emotion.
I am like everyone else love Adele. I saw Angelina years ago on you tube and fell in love with her. She definitely is an old soul in a beautiful girl. I loved watching your reaction to her there it put a smile on my face.

The guitar player, in an interview, stated he often felt, when playing for her, that he could not believe he was there with such a perfect singing voice. You can tell when watching him he is totally amazed.
My mind and ears appreciated the beauty of the Adelle version. But my body got chills with Angelina's version. They are just playing around here, too. This is not a polished, prepared performance, and yet my whole body feels the goosebumps. You get the emotion with the Light, with the sense of being connected to the whole of humanity and human experience. All of it. 💜

For me, Angelina brings truth to everything she sings, and whether or not she's experienced the specific story in the lyrics, she knows and conveys the underlying emotion, with a golden wash of hope. I think it's just who she is, making every song feel like hope.
Angelina is a gift to the universe. I watch this video often and sob. It’s my favorite of hers. It helps me cope and accept my incurable illness. I love it so much Ive asked that this be played at my memorial. I’m in love with this magnificent being.

There's just something in her voice that reaches out and grabs you right in the feels. We all know it, but no one has yet been able to quantify it in any meaningful way. It's just there. An undefinable presence that feels unique to Angelina Jordan and sets her apart and above any other singer I've ever heard in over seventy years of listening to music. I suggest you simply learn to roll with it and enjoy it without question. It's her gift to us all.
This is one of my favorite pieces by AJ. Did you notice she was reading the lyrics as she was singing the song? Ivan mendez is the guitarist and in an interview on RUclips he says there was no real preparation before recording this on a cellphone. I look forward to many more favs by AJ and had the extraordinary good fortune to attend a July '22 concert in Norway. She sang 15 songs, followed by 3 encores, finishing with "I Have Nothing".
