Total respect for Jimmy Carter. He and Roslyn came to our town Union Beach, NJ to rebuild and build new homes after superstorm Sandy. 89 -90 years old doing carpentry work.
Linda Lavin was another gem a thespian.....She was all about song and dance and the craft of acting!!!!! Early to bed and Early to rise!!!!!! Thanks Linda we will miss you!!!!!!
Lee - hearing your boots and keys on your belt as you stroll along - go get yourself some of those Mephisto walking sneakers… it’s like walking barefoot in Zoysia sod - deep, lush and cool to the feet… treat yourself, y’all deserve it! And one more thing… when talking at the every end, about the humanity of President Carter, I’d like to humbly suggest that you also, are a great ambassador for the humanity of wo/man…the genuine kindness and respect that you show in your everyday interactions w/ complete strangers and those that recognize y’all, is a testimony to your ability to seemingly insulate yourself from the wickedness that is all around us…
Oh, gosh, Jimmy taught us all how to be better people. Ya wanna make America great again. Be like Jimmy. Loved his wife, loved his life, and graciously gave both funds and time, to bettering all he touched. I miss California so much, am so glad to tag along with you today.
This is so cool. I lived Lompoc, about 60mi. north of Santa Barbara for quite some time. My high school band marched in the parade in '69. We played standard marching band fare and thought we were pretty special til we saw the band from Hawthorne. They were the funkiest thing I'd ever seen or heard! Thanks for the memories!! All the best to evryone.
Awwww, brings back fond memories. My husband and I were lucky enough to attend the 2002 Rose Parade and Rose Bowl football game. I won a contest sponsored by the American Pork Board ( I couldn’t make this up if I tried)! And we were feted and chaperoned around like royalty. My beloved Oregon Ducks should have been playing in that game, but alas, computers kept them out. I’d love to be there this year, as the Ducks are playing Ohio State ( again ), for the roses. And I know a few things about roses, hailing from the Rose City, itself, Portland Oregon. Much love to you and your wife and the residents of Pasadena. P.S. Jimmy Carter was a role model for all of us. A class act all the way, and we shared a birthday…Oct. 01. ❤️🙌🎵🎶🥳🥂🎉
The best moment of this wonderful tour was the short interruption by a Maureen fan. I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that it's not an unusual situation for you in Pasadena. Very sorry to hear there's another complication to her full recovery. She will get through that, too. Hard to believe all that traffic and noise is so close to your beautiful home, gardens, and Knucklehead playground. Love and Thanks ❤👍❤👍
Leland, thank you so much for sharing this! I’m in my humble abode on Long Island, NY, enjoying this immensely. With all the traffic, I’m getting NYC vibes, but with a SoCal spin ☺️. My sister lives in Woodland Hills. I think the wildfires and earthquakes are enough to keep me in NY 😊. I love the story of your Wrigley stove! What a cool history!
Lee. . . this was the most amazing walking tour. . . my legs are feeling tired. . but this is the closest I will ever come to viewing the Rose Parade. . you’re a good man, Sklar!
And….yes….sitting here in the house, looking out at the cold and wet weather on the East Coast, I do know why people move to California! This was a fun video!
Considering all of the things you could have been doing today, I do appreciate your annual effort at taking your life in your hands in order to show us the Rose Parade set-up!
I went once to the parade. We stayed in a hotel the night before and were right on the route. It was so much fun! Tons of people camp out on sidewalk the night before. Fun memories...Thanks:) Hoping for good back results, too!
I've camped out in my younger days. A major adventure. 40 years ago, finding a bathroom if you were camping out was a significant problem. I think they've solved that one now. In fact, I noticed a row of porta potties behind the memorial that we were looking at early in the video.
@saxMD2008 I don't know about wise, but the answer to the quintessential Hendrix question is yes! I am experienced, and have the battle scars to prove it. 🤣 Happy New Year! I trust you enjoyed your armchair view of the parade whenever you felt like watching it.✌️
When I was a kid in the winter time cold of Rochester, NY this parade connected me with a dream of a warm place to live. I have been in California for the last 30 years. Never going to live in the cold again. Tahoe is 4 hours a way if I want snow. Happy New Year Lee!
I made the same journey from northern illinois to so Cal. My cousins ask me if I'm planning to move back now that I'm retired. Umm... no. I'm happy to visit the midwest, the Rockies, Tahoe, etc. when I need snow.
That's funny the Double Mint Twins Host the Barnstable Brown Pre-Derby Party Every year in Kentucky. Hopefully Maureen is doing well..More 💐 Enjoy the Parade thanks for the tour. Never been to California! 😝 (I would love to Move) ✌️
😃😃. Was so excited to see this! until you mentioned Mrs. Sklar's medical gauntlet. Do hope that she feels better and that not too much intervention is required. And when she has whipped that the way she cornered the chocolate cake and carrot cake markets, she can write a book to advise the rest of us! What a cool tour!!! No flying or driving required! And forget the east coast, some of us are in the same region and freezing our tail feathers off! Just don't get hit....
Thanks Leland, I've never been to the Rose Parade. It's good to hear you explain the back story. I've also never been to the Macy's Parade either; spent the first 21 years of my life in #MetroNY and somehow Mom and Dad and us, never got there.
Thank you so much for this! Fascinating! It’s a video for the ages. Seriously. We’ve always loved the Rose Parade, but never had a glimpse or any idea of the massive effort to make it happen. An Olympic event! Aren’t humans amazing? Agreed, Jimmy Carter was the best example of one.
at 72 yrs old, the rose parade remains on my bucket list. Agree with your observations about President AND Mrs Carter. two true caring humanitarians ! RIP
Don’t give up hoping for an improved future and improved conditions for our world, our country and each other, Leland. Jimmy Carter would want us to remember the example he set. I say that as somebody who was born in January 1980, the last year of his single presidential term.
Great video. Thanks. We were in Pasadena for 2013 parade. Kids were marching with Lassiter H .S. band. Very cold that morning, but we had warm hearts. Trust all goes well for Maureen. Happy and healthy New Year. ❤
What a treat on a beautiful sunny Pasadena afternoon. Thank you Lee, for your kindness and generosity. Wishing you a very happy and fulfilling 2025 from Cornwall UK.
for the first time after 10 years we celebrate the snow coming to switzerland during christmas! and nobody here would even think about escaping to california. the whole country celebrates the white landscapes, the ski slopes and the big blue above all. this golden snow brought a lot of healing to the swiss people after all this bad news like the pandemie, the US-votings, the wars in the ukraine and in the middle east and so on. for you it's the roses, for us it's the snow. these days, switzerland is in a state of happiness & hope. we all are ready for 2025. happy new year to all of you! ❤☮️🎸

Oh, my, Leland, surely it's nothing serious for Maureen to endure. All the best to her! It's really something, no musicians driving by or perhaps music lovers, don't drive by you and roll down their window to say, "Hey! Look, there's Leland Sklar!!!" I mean, with your unique appearance, I'd think anybody into good music, would surely recognize you instantly. 14:06 WHOA! Wait, someone DID recognize you and with respect, too! ALRIGHT and again at 26:09 "You play bass guitar?" Now there's a music lover! 4:36 That Enduring Heroes statue in the park honors fallen soldiers from the Greater Pasadena area. 15:38 That magnificent Italian Renaissance style mansion was designed by G.L. Stimson and was built in 1914. 28:25 The City of Pasadena is reponsible for safety inspections on all of those huge bleachers. All the best musically with Lyle, et al, in 2025! Your artistry is greatly appreciated!
You can’t be in LA.. the traffic is moving too fast. I sat right across from the NS Museum in the bleachers when I was attending the parade over 15 years ago. Btw..it was pouring! My best friend’s daughter was marching in it from her high school here in Chicago. Must have been fun marching that entire route in rain soaked wool band uniforms. Happy New Year all!
It is quite the production, isn’t it? My best to Maureen! ❤ I hope all is well with her. Thanks for the tour. Pasadena is always lovely and we only get to see such a small slice during the parade broadcast.
Sad to see when heritage homes and buildings are torn down. I have seen it happen. Old homes and buildings are neat to photograph, because they have a very cool history to them.

Good morning, Lee!! 🥰❤ Thank you for this lovely tour of the Rose Bowl Parade route! 🌹 I can remember the year Fred Rogers was in it alongside Bill Cosby and Art Linkletter. Little did we know Fred would pass away at age 74 just weeks later. I miss him! We watch the parade here on our local channel 5 WCVB, ABC network out of Boston. Seeing all of those marching bands makes me miss my days in the marching band. We had to marching in all kinds of weather, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Today is going to be a beautiful, sunny day here on Cape Cod, upper 40s, but rain is coming in for New Year's Day, which we can always use. I do love my New England seasons, even winter with ski season. 🎿 🏂 We get to experience all 4 seasons here, which are beautiful. I don't think I could live in California, though, with the constant threat of wildfires, mudslides, and earthquakes, eeeeek! Even here on the Cape, they're building too much. Taking beautiful, quaint homes down and building mansions none of us want to see here. Cape Cod is not meant to be a city or built up. That's why we like the quaintness here, but that's starting to go away with all of the building. Sigh! The hub of the Cape is Hyannis, Kennedy Land. 😂 ⛵️ And yet, Carly Simon is just across the water on Martha's Vineyard. I'll stay up here in New England with James Taylor for now. Plus, it's expensive as all hell now to live here. 😂❤ I love you, Lee!! Happy New Year's Eve! 🎉 Hi to pups and Maureen! 👋 😃🥰 God bless Jimmy Carter! 🇺🇸 🙏❤️

At the 10:00 mark you were discussing taking things out of the house before it was demolished. Years ago I saw David Crosby in Pittsburgh, PA at the old Syria Mosque. Wonderful tour. Thank your for 1802 videos. I found you when covid hit and it is always a joy to watch.
I will be in Pasadena next month and visit NAMM. It is always a good time.

Losing a president who actually decided to dedicate his life to service instead of aligning with oligarchs is definitely a hit, but we will prevail.
Even your walk has rhythm! 🥁🔑 Thanks for this tour! ❤
Great episode Lee. Thanks for sharing!
Great tour! Thanks for taking the time to offer perspective on the upcoming festivities! Nothing like a seasoned, native, tour guide! All the best Leland!
My mom went to the Rose Parade back in the 50s...it was freezing, and no bleachers. People brought ladders so they could get above the crowd and see better...lol. They've certainly come a long way over the years! Thank you for the lovely walking tour! ❤

Very cool and informative tour. Rest in a peace President Carter. I hope Maureen is ok and continues to improve. Thanks for taking the time to film all this. 🖕
Thank you Leland, i really enjoyed this stroll.❤
At the 10:00 mark you were discussing taking things out of the house before it was demolished. Years ago I saw David Crosby in Pittsburgh, PA at the old Syria Mosque. Coz mentioned that he had glass door handles in his house in Marin County from the Syria Mosque. He winked at the audience and said he always carry's a screwdriver where ever goes.
Evening Leland 🧙🏼♂️ 💖
