    Hello, I have acquired the plans previously and I was encouraging myself to make the 1Kw generator but I am surprised that the comments in the guide videos are disabled, it would be very helpful if others provide their problems so I can see the solutions that they have. are provided.

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  8 месяцев назад +1

      If comments are disabled, then how are we communicating right now? If you have questions, feel free to ask me or anyone of the people you see in the comments below. All of the partial build videos on this turbine were set to private at one time because this video wraps them all into one. Every video is in this one. Having them all public would only make them all compete against each other in terms of the algorithm. But setting them to private automatically removes all of the comments. This is RUclips, not me. I have no control over that. When I realized comments were gone, I set the videos to unlisted but they didn't return. Oh well. Like I said, you're free to communicate here. But my guess is you won't find anyone with any problems regarding building any axial flux turbine, whether they used my plans or not. These are excellent machines. I only charge enough for the plans to cover the cost of the website. It's a charity, really. They could be patent protected. Build it, don't build it - your choice, my friend. But if you don't build it, then we both lose on the deal, not just me. Again, as I mentioned in the build guide and the build article, I'm here to help any way I can every step of the way. I don't usually respond to comment threads, though, so if you ever do have any questions specifically for me, then you can reach me at jbiggar@resystech.com.

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  5 лет назад

      Yeah none of my videos are 'locked', that must be something to do with the software or an app on your device, trying to charge you to watch RUclips videos. There are no tiers on my channel, no options for locking videos, etc. I can make videos private so that only I can watch them and publish when I want, but I can't lock videos and create tiers to make people pay to watch them. Just have the $5/m channel membership and that has nothing to do with locking/unlocking videos, just gives members access to the project plans (the same perk that Patron Elites get). I would contact the manufacturer and find out what's up with their device because that's just criminal imo. My videos will never be behind a paywall as long as I have anything to say about it. Unless you're using RUclips Red (now called Premium), that might have something to do with it as that's a paid subscription service for Americans, but I don't know any more about it or how it affects my channel here in Canada :/ Other than that, I don't know. If someone is charging to unlock and watch my videos through YT, I'm definitely not getting any $ from it

    • @izzyplusplusplus1004
      @izzyplusplusplus1004 5 лет назад

      I was thinking about how much it would cost someone to purchase plans, build all the jigs, buy all the materials, ship everything, and then the time to build it, I could probably value this rig at about 55k. Paid for in electricity in about 2-3 years. In a windy spot.

    Hello James Biggar. I will be building a steel sailboat I hope soon and my question is can I make a 3000w version but with smaller overall dimensions?

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  3 года назад +2

      Hi. No. The amount of energy that a turbine can harness from the wind is dependent on the wind speed AND the swept area of the blades. Smaller blades = less power. With that said, you absolutely do NOT need a 3kW turbine on a sailboat. A 3 kW turbine is an off grid turbine for an avg home. Sail boats, fishing boats, etc typically only use 1000W turbines or less. Over the course of 24 hours in a windy environment like an ocean or lake with a mean annual wind speed between ~5-10 mps, that would amount to a consistent power output of around 500W and 12 kWh of energy. The avg home only uses 20-30 kWh per day. Unless your sailboat is a fully loaded houseboat, then you'll be wasting a lot of $ by installing a turbine that's 3X more powerful than what is needed. www.windatlas.ca/nav-en.php?no=11&field=E1&height=30&season=ANU

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  3 года назад +4

      The best approach would be to tally up the total power of the equipment/appliances you want to power on your boat, and multiply that by the amount of hours you expect to run everything (realistically) to get an idea of how many kWh/day you need to produce. To be clear - if you need to produce 3000 watt hours per day, that does not mean you need a 3000 watt turbine. If the total power of your equipment is 3000 watts, that does not mean you need a 3000 watt turbine to power them, either. Like most, you won't be running everything at full power at the same time, all the time. A refrigerator doesn't run 24/7. Lights don't run 24/7, etc. For example, let's say you want to power a 150w sat tv for roughly 6 hrs every evening. 150w * 6 hrs = 900 watt hours. There are 24 hrs in a day, so from the time you shut that tv off the night before until the time you turn it back on the following night, you'll need to generate 900 / 24 = 38 watt PER hr - that's how much power the turbine would need to produce in a given consistent wind speed to generate 900 Wh over a 24 hr period. Being on the water means that wind speed would be far more consistent than on land. Once you get the numbers you need, download this design guide to learn how to properly design a wind turbine to suit your needs in the wind environment that you plan on exposing it to: renewablesystemstechnology.com/the-diy-wind-turbine-design-guide.html

    Which of the 3 configurations in the plan did you use for the video? 12, 24 or 48V?
    I want to do the 24 V version, but I dont get the amount of turns and the meassurements of the coil yet and why I have to use double wires in the low Voltage area.
    I´m glad about any help :)

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  3 года назад +3

      24V. Watts = volts * amps. If you want the same power at a lower voltage, you need to increase the amps. But that also means increasing the coil wire gauge to handle the current. A certain thickness (or more specifically a certain cross sectional area) of wire can only carry so many amps. If the wire is too thin for the current, it will burn out. But using wire that's really thick can be very difficult to turn into a compact coil without special equipment. This is why parallel strands of 14 awg wire are used in low voltage generators. It creates the same cross sectional area as using one thick wire to carry the current, but is much easier to wind. More information is available on the website.

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  5 лет назад

      Close, but not quite. This is an early James Biggar design, inspired by Hugh and other early axial flux pioneers. More rugged frame (tubing vs angle iron, 4 stator standoff's vs 3, custom thin mag rotor plates vs heavy car wheel hubs, etc), better pmg that runs cooler and is more optimally designed for mppt controllers, sleeker blade design for high speed performance but with a much wider root for better low wind startup torque. The latest iteration is even better, more compact, one of a kind. Will produce 3X as much power as this turbine. Should be flying in a couple of weeks.

      Thanks! No worries, can't please everyone. You'll never get a narration from me though, that would be worse than the RUclips royalty free music from the original videos that I had to cover up lol

    Steel plate behind magnets is too thin, half of the magnets thicknes is minimum 100% is the best(it is conecting magnets and boosting magnets strength, you can bet that you will gonna have magnetic field leak behind that skiny plates) and coils should look more like triangle because only side of the coils is producing electricity and wires need to cut magnetic field with 90deg angle to the movement...
