  • a little bit is a bittersweet drama that documents the relationship dynamics between two young men, Sam and Will, over a period of time, placing their romantic feelings under scrutiny.
the film depicts their very human sense of fragility and vulnerability, but ultimately, also of their maturity.
Piece by piece, they develop a bond, but love has its own limitations, bit by bit, we see their certainty slip away.
following a chance encounter, the pair discover that they still care for each other. despite residual feelings, they simply acknowledge their shared past, recognising that love can come in many forms.
Soundtrack (all except for one track) is available on iTunes: itunes.apple.co...

Holy Crap, this made me cry for about five minutes solid... I still have tears in my eyes as I type this. Such an amazing film, and quite well done, with gems of wisdom for everyone. I know "We don't always get what we want", but damn, I want this short film to win a bunch of awards for it's poignant and beautiful story.

The film was beautiful, I cried, it was so real. It wasn't a caricature, it was real life, the verbiage was real. Bravo to you, a treat to anyone who sees it.

This was so very well done. I had not been to Manchester in years, but am going through, somewhat, a similar process, with another named Will. This left me almost in tears. Thank You. The poem was beautiful.

Pretty good plot. Love the way they play, the fact that when they look at each other, you can sense they are meant to be together cause they understand each well. Of course life ain't easy road and it's human the feeling that he is not good enough for the more attractive guy. On the other hand, the more attractive( so to say) made it clear that the cute shave one is the only that matters to him. It take a Hella lot of confidence in yourself to figure out things and understand you deserve all of the good things. Maybe that come with maturity or wisdom

I still read the comments as I get an e-mail every time someone comments. Thank you for your kind words. The script was inspired by a past relationship of mine and guess what, I am really good friends with my ex now, so I have material for a sequel! Joking. The poem was written by one of the actors (Stuart who plays Will) and he kindly laminated his poem and gave everyone on set a copy on our last day of shoot saying how much he enjoyed working with us.

the film and the poem were reflective of a place that many of us have visited. we never quite understood how we got to our relationships in the first place, and in hindsight, wonder if we gave away what may well have been the best opportunities in our lives (in hindsight). i found your creation closer to my experience than I was comfortable with, which is always the character of a solid piece of work.

This is what happens when someone has low 'self-esteem' and it becomes the center of his life instead of on occasional flitting thought. Counseling would have solved this. Bravo for the other guy for trying to understand however, him understanding the other guy's depression about his own insecurities, short-comings and worthlessness - can't be understood by merely 'understanding' what the other guy is going through. It's only solved by the one who is focusing only on his short-comings instead of going to counseling or seeking help to SOLVE the problem, not just live with it as part of his life's luggage. In the end, he lost him from not doing the work required to improve.....he knew it and showed it within his poem at the end, at least I'd like to believe he did.

Manchester.... this movie hit a nerve especially the verse by Stuart Crowther at the end. Manchester was home and place of work for many years. I now live a different part of the world, but the experiences of the sights and sound of the village and people are described by the reflections of the verse. My visit's back are almost like the book in the library one takes out or a favorite read that once in a while has to be experienced again to ponder the meaning of life and experiences.

This is absolutely brilliant. It has to be my favourite gay short movie after "thirteen minutes or so". It made me think at the time when I used to live in Manchester. And it made me think that I am 33 and never been in a relationship: nobody has ever loved me. But the real tragedy is that I have never loved anybody.

"We don't always get what we want." You like him and at times you want to love him. His friends don't get you and you don't get them. Its a challenge having to match your emotions with someone who you think will understand you. The very worst thing is to have a relationship where there is no true love.

Thank you so much for the film. And thanks especially to Sam0822 for "after you were mine". I'm an older guy, and I've been with my partner for 28 years next month, but your poem makes me think about the "what ifs" from my young days. What if I would have been mature enough and wise enough while I was with (insert name of early ex's here)? Could we have made our relationship work? Thanks gentlemen for adding a little beauty to an otherwise dreary day in the middle of the work week.

I remember the shape of you, sketch the illustration, but blur the edges.
Imagine a technicolor version where there was really only a limited pallet
as limited as my own at the time.
But we painted each other in primary tones, stuck to the lines,
caring nothing for the shades and the scribbles that would follow with time
    and with age.

If someone ever tells you that they aren't good enough for you. BELIEVE THEM! They're right! Don't love someone that doesn't love themselves. It will bring way too much bagged into the relationship. You can't fix someone that's broken!

Will's insecurity and depression would keep him from ever being happy. Like a Woody Allen, he analyzes things to death. Anything placed under enough intensity and magnification will reveal flaws. One should savor the happy and good things that come our way rather than morbidly listing the things that aren't perfect or cataloguing everything that might go wrong.

It's funny in watching this film what emotions it generates. I was with my first partner for 5 years and my second and I just celebrated our 30th year together. My first and I are now best friends and talk at least 2-3 times a week. It was bittersweet early on and difficult at times but now we are back the way we were before we loved each other - just best friends. I hope others can achieve this as there was once obviously something deep and real with your first loves.

This story was great, I see the date I which it was posted. Then I ask myself how is this same story appears in an actual series from the UK on Logo called Cucumber & Bana. Hum the poem In it self seems to so close to me then I realized hum someone other wrote I had written nearly ten fold ago. Funny though I did write it it seems another walked the road I had felt softness of the leather cover the comfort that the book of you gave to me then I realize my book had been borrowed when I put upon the shelf, returning to find someone new had began to read as I once had before.

Manchester is a massively gay friendly city: I believe it has the largest gay male population in the UK outside of London. (Although Brighton might be second, in which case Manchester 3rd, but Brighton is not a proper city like Manchester).
The UK TV series "Queer as Folk" is actually set in Manchester. The Gay Village centres around canal street.
In the town, it is unlikely any one would bat an eye lid. Honestly though, London is your best bet

dunno if you'll ever read this (it's been a while since this was first posted & you've prolly moved on to other things), but i still wanted to stop & say how wonderful i think this film is. you've managed to say so much in such a short amount of time...many try, but few are successful. i admire, very much, the talent it takes to show all the layers of a relationship without making it a caricature of itself. and i have to ask, was the film inspired by the poem?
