  • The Australian’s Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan says the Solomon Islands Prime Minister stepping down from his five-year rule is a “good outcome” from Australia’s point of view.
Manasseh Sogavare conceded he would not have enough members in a hung parliament to remain the leader of the Pacific Island nation.
Foreign Minister Jeremiah Manele will take over as prime minister.
It’s believed the move may change Solomon Island’s ‘pro-China’ stance.
“This is a good outcome from Australia’s point of view,” Mr Sheridan told Sky News Australia.

Solomon Islanders have the right to decide what is best for them. No countries in the world should dictate how a sovereign State must conduct its economic development and international policy. 😂😂😂

Expect the next SI PM to maintain the China security deal. These folks have made it known that they can't trust Straya. When Solomon was in crisis, it took Australia 5 years to respond with RAMSI.
Request for help came in 1998, RAMSI was sent in 2003.
    You can't blame them, really..

It should never be about you Australia. It's should be about Solomon Islands. Australia becoming more and more of US puppet is insane. Thumbs up to Sogavare stepping down and give way for another leader from another Province of Solomon Islands is a testament to Sogavare great leadership. But in your eyes as Australians & US will say otherwise because you want a PM who will be your puppet to do what you want and speak your narratives.

But China is here to stay..what can we say then. Solomon Islands is a developing country and will need all its development partners in working together with them. Therefore, China will stay. Solomon Islands is a sovereign country and its interest musty be protected at all times by their leaders. Australia and the West should respect Solomons sovereignty.

Solomon Islands is known for political instability. Songovare is betting on the next crisis to return as PM as he has done previously. Australia should be thanking him for the peaceful transition and mend relations with him in case he returns this term of Parliament.

His party still takes the lead in the nomination of the new PM. If the new PM is from his party, then for sure, he'll be the minister of finance. If that's the case, then the newly elected PM from his party will be his puppet.
