I enjoyed my teens day with styx.. thanks
How does tommy feel, when he hears people that weren't even born yet when this legendary song was written, singing, and singing it well
Excelente Calidad.... saludos desde chile
I went to the original '77 concert very cool. The thing I remember the most is Dennis's Grand Piano rising out of the floor on this song. I have met one memeber ....J.Y. in Chicago
Best of group among years of music
Dennis was the heart of Styx.
Wow fantastic video!!
Wow! That's the closest front row recording I've ever seen.
My favorite song!!!!
Thx to Mr gould I've re found Styx .😊.
So many bands from the 70s just mail it in these days... but Styx is one of the ones that has never sounded better. Amazing.
Dennis De Young the Original One best ever
Larry Gowan. You make Canada proud. I actually played drums with D. Johnson in Thunder Bay Ontario, Canada in the late 90's I would say. Before the Styx thing. You played at the Airlane Hotel Ball room, and we opened for you with D. Johnson original songs. You were doing a tour, solo on simply the Grand Piano. I am amazingly happy for you with your success with Styx. I was born in 61, so Styx was one of the bands I loved in the late 70's. You are a hockey fan too. I believe that you play it. You also went to one of the professional games on one of your visits to Thunder Bay at the Fort William Gardens. I think that I heard that you played a beer league type Hockey game in Thunder Bay. I also saw your Strange Animal tour at Expo 86 in Vancouver. Wonderful! Thank you! (I am not sure if you read these comments but whoever does read them, this is my story and I'm sticking to it. :)
Dennis was and is in my heart, but Lawrence is great and more then a substitution. I like him. Want to see the guys in Germany, hopefully they come again. Last time it was 2005 or so, but it was a wonderfull gig
I loved Styx and Dennis growing up. On the other hand, Lawrence (Larry) played hockey for my Dad and i went to High School and played hockey with his brother Terry; so , basically, I can't lose here!

Sydney was my role model, mentor, and friend. We collaborated on many projects at New England Digital and I greatly miss working with him. He was a brilliant electronics designer and we would often meet in his office tossing sound ideas like wildfire while he periodically lightened the mood with his dark sense of humor. His most persistent joke happened whenever we'd decide to offload something from the hardware design to the software development. He'd mime rowing like a galley slave while his fingers typed as if the oar ends were keyboards, suggesting the software developers would be working for years on this - a fair assessment since, unlike hardware, software is never done. A little more than a year ago, I had an idea for a new collaboration between us. I wish I hadn't waited to call. We have lost a great man. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Now "Wayne" and I met this weird person, "The Albino" was Wayne's nickname for that person.
I miss Dennis De Young!
For me when the Drummer died that was the end of the Real Styx.
Wow, just like Ontario Place.
Styx doing well with the current team. Tight band.
Wow pretty harsh. Could not replace, but if someone had to. This is your guy. For many years now. Why stop what your doing and what you enjoy while you can. Life is short!
After decades they still comment mostly about Dennis and comparing. That says something!
Yea everyone wants to see Styx bury the hatchet and do one last tour with Dennis
Lol, yeah and Dennis’s shows ain’t the same without Tommy either… IMO, both still put on a quality show though.
Still Dennis de Young’s voice the identity of Styx… 😞
Were you on stage
Not the same AT ALL!!
DENNIS was THE HEART of Styx.
Hope hard he comes back snd have the chance to see them both Tommy and Dennis together, PLEASE.
ol' tommy lookin' all buff.
Is that Lawrence McGowan?
Yes
He's put on a few years, hasn't he.
@@peoriavideosltd6822 Haven’t we all. :)
It's just Gowan. There's no Mc
Amazing but please get Dennis back he still sounds great one last reunion tour while Tommy James and Dennis are all in good health!!
Never going to happen. Tommy and JY both *hate* Dennis. Tommy especially.
@@Shtoops why? I know they've had disagreements in the past but they've had reunions
@@magiccheeseball Dennis has expressed willingness, but none of the others have. Tommy definitely hates Dennis with his entire being, and while I don't think JY or Chuck hate him to the same extent, I doubt they particularly want to reunite. Cyclorama came out 20 years ago, but I don't think they write "Kiss Your Ass Goodbye" and "Bourgeois Pig" without some particularly strong emotions.
It's a shame, but that's how it is. I guess it's possible, but I wouldn't count on it
@@Shtoops that's too bad I wish they would get together even though Tommy Shaw most of my favorite songs it would be really cool to see them all together it's not really styx without them all they were my favorite band when I was a kid I'm glad I got to see them a few times before they dismantled after mr. Roboto
I think the recruitment of Larry Gowan was genius. He and Todd have given Styx new life. I just hope I get to see them again before I depart this mortal coil…
There was this person at Dartmouth. His name was Sid Alonzo. Synclavier ?
So what happened to Dennis?
It's like when they switched Daron's on Bewitched. It just isn't the same.
Dennis wrote most of the songs and he sings better and is a better showman 🥳🤓
In what world is Dennis a better showman than Gowan???
@@Shtoops he stood up on the piano, big deal,!!
@@joemanna491dude, he can literally play the piano backwards. Also he moves like he's 30 years younger than he is.
But. Jack, the rest. of. the bank said he got obsessed the direction of. the. band. after. Too
Much. Time/ Roboto. Tommy Shaw said. How can. you. play. those. songs after Nugent at. Texas festival,. the. bass player. said. every. time. Dennis. didn,t. get. his way,. he. got sick. He. ended. up going. to. 20 Dr. s. to tell him he. had. allergy. to. light, what. more can. you. say.
Who the fuck is this??
thats not the lead vocals
A ship maybe gone too far, interesting trip though.
where's Dennis???
Where’s tommy
But Dennis is no longer with Styx, you have to give Lawrence credit, been with Styx a long time now and he is a great keyboard player and singer in his own right.
He’s been a member longer than Dennis now by a long shot
Very first time seeing & HEARING this vid. This guy does a much better job of singing a classic, possibly can't be duplicated song sung by Dennis DeYoung. Like Randy Meisner singing " Take It To The Limit " with the Eagles. (Vince Gill tried, but well....) And Steve Perry replacement singer for Journey. Well...... OK.
LOusy recording acoustics & stuff, but well it is a vid, not sure who recorded it.
Gowan is a significantly better keyboardist than DDY. And I'd say they're about equal on vocals. Just different. On the other hand, I do think DDY is a better songwriter
R u kidding?
this video shows you why I don't spend my hard earned dollars to listen to the audience sing.
WHERE IS DENNIS DEYOUNG!!!!!
He's dead!
He was sick like over 20 yrs ago and this guy replaced him, he is not dead.
@@markahl9387 He's doing just fine.
STYX are nothing without the voice that is Styx - DdeY.
Styx, without the DeYoung, is only Half a Styx.
DeYoung as a solo artist sucks. He has basically no music career. He needs Styx more than Styx needs him, apparently.
blah blah... Dennis...blah. He's NEVER coming back.
Styx without Dennis is a Phenomenal Band!
Hmmm, looks like Paul McCartney and Lars Ulrich's love child. ❤
Larry has left the band. 😅
With need Dennis help 🙃🙄
Not Styx
Broken styx!
Wow, this band is not the same without Dennis.
Other than Tommy Shaw, that is NOT Styx!!!...nowhere near them!!
So sad 🙄not d.same.
Dennis vocals declined over the years. This is a nostalgic act. Why in the world would they let their pride get in the way of having him on board for a tour? I won't pay to see half an act. It's like seeing GnR without Axl.
Lawrence Gowan is incredible though. And the drummer Todd Sucherman is one of the greatest drummer in the world. I honestly have gone to see them just to see Todd Sucherman.
Now Dennis DeYoung's band is closer to was original lineup styx sounded like. Dennis' vocals sound EXACTLY like he did in the 80s
This recording is a terrible representation of the band. You can only hear the crowd
Lawrence Gowan kicks DDs A$$ up and down the street. Great keys and vocals. Runs around like a 20 year old. DD acts 80 now.
Seriously, have you not seen how good Dennis Deyoung still sounds. Watch a recent you tube video of his show. Lawrence Gowen fit the personality of the band much better in the later years, ESPECIALLY to Tommy Shaws personality. While Styx made magical music together for years, musical philosophical differences led to multiple breakups. Dennis is an INCREDIBLE singer, songwriter, musician. It was sadly not meant to be for the long run, partly cause Dennis wanted total control of the band. Tommy wanted power to. Just wasnt gonna work forever. They basically divorced, remarried and divorced again 🤯
@@bradcrawford1998 What I meant was, get the band back together. Splitting up is childish. What little 70 year old babies.
Liberace lives 🤢🤢🤢
No Dennis, no Styx.
Kinda sad from a boomer perspective .
Even with Tommy.
More like broken Styx without Dennis. This guy is no where near as good as Dennis
You got that right
Yes I agree but the better can't live forever. 😢 . So we have to work with what we have . Not the same . But the very first song I learned to play . Along with so many Kansas songs . All will have a place in my heart till it's time for me to go . 68 and still in my heart
Agreed
On the contrary. Lawrence Gowan is an incredible musician and showman. What's Dennis doing these days?
Sorry but this guy has nowhere near the talent and voice of Dennis Deyoung. Saw them live in 1981. This is "Styx" in name only.
This sounds horrible.
Not styx. Without Dennis they suck
What a laugh - this ain't Styx. Styx was Dennis DeYoung and Dennis DeYoung was Styx. To call it anything else is an insult. That would be like Ringo calling himself "The Beatles" and touring as such, and having some unknown guy sing all those songs that Lennon or McCartney sang on originally. No one should have the audacity to call themselves "Styx" without the guy who wrote all their hits and sang solo on all of them. This bunch is just shamelessly trading (mooching) off the name to make a few bucks. FAIL!!
No Dennis DeYoung? What's the use?!
