Such great reference, for buyers as well as people new to the car business! Another note about titles and older cars: many US states either don't issue or don't require titles for cars over 20-25 years old. I took a classic car in trade last summer and had to explain to a few people that the car didn't have a title, didn't need a title, and that was normal in my state. And it's good to learn what titles from your state/states you do business in look like, that's helped me a few times.

I think you meant to say you have the "option" to purchase the salvaged vehicle, not the obligation. You are not obligated in any way to purchase the salvaged vehicle.
Every state may be different on this one. In Illinois I hold my insurance license. The company that I work for is the car must be nine years or older to have the option to buy it back as a total. The insurance company knows what the car should bring at a vendor such as Copart and that is the dollar amount that they takeoff the total settlement number.

why does one have to buy it from the insurance company when yiou were not at fault? how do they get ownership when they are just compensating me for the neglegice of the insured? its there obligation
Whatever you do dont buy a vehicle with a KY red title. Unless you plan on living in KY. It is no good in any state but KY even if it is a rebuilt title.
I appreciate that you are knowledgeable, however, you're making too many generalizations which aren't accurate. For example, CA and SD both accept an export only, an MS junk title can be converted into a rebuilt (it's stated on the DMV website) (I believe KY as well) and insurance companies can and do insure salvage (not yet rebuilt) vehicles (Progressive).
@horaciomontero2607 My car had an export only stamp on the Salvage Certificate. I went to the DMV in Palm Desert and explained that it was a mistake. She gave me an affidavit to sign, crossed out the export only and that was that.

USAA will not they will do a rebuilt car but not salvaged. They always say salvage but they mean rebuilt
@@LuckyLopez777 I defer to your expertise. However, they insured a salvage title for me two years ago and I also verified with them specifically about salvage titles when I registered last month to bid on Copart auctions, which your vids have been a great educational tool. Much appreciated!
I think you meant to say you have the "option" to purchase the salvaged vehicle, not the obligation. You are not obligated in any way to purchase the salvaged vehicle.
you have the right to buy in from the insurace company
Every state may be different on this one. In Illinois I hold my insurance license. The company that I work for is the car must be nine years or older to have the option to buy it back as a total. The insurance company knows what the car should bring at a vendor such as Copart and that is the dollar amount that they takeoff the total settlement number.
Bought my Fairmont back. Got salvaged title. Fixxxed car. CA State safety - Brake Light Smog check. Certs. Registered. Insured for LIABILITY ONLY NO comp and collision. And with ACV insurance any way you already been paid for vehicle.
why does one have to buy it from the insurance company when yiou were not at fault? how do they get ownership when they are just compensating me for the neglegice of the insured? its there obligation
I just bought a car with "For export only” stamp on the salvage certificate, do you think I can register and get a title? I’m in Riverside, Ca.
@horaciomontero2607 My car had an export only stamp on the Salvage Certificate. I went to the DMV in Palm Desert and explained that it was a mistake. She gave me an affidavit to sign, crossed out the export only and that was that.
