    Wow! Couple of really nice parts. Some of my viewers also offered to donate a voodoo 5 couple of times, but I always refuse. Most of the people just don't know what they have there and how much it costs. Anyway, that ATI soundcard is also a really rare one. I collect ISA sound cards and hunted it for a long time. I think this was the most expensive retro card which I ever payed for. It's a SB2.0 clone, the two missing ICs can be upgraded with SAA1099 to get CMS compatibility. It is very well built, much better quality, than from Creative and it also has proprietary 16-bit digital sound support, but I didn't find any game which would support it. You can use it from the software though. If I remember right, this card had compatibility issues with some games, but I'm not sure. In any case, this is a hit for every sound cards collector.

      I remember buying a retro part for a tiny fraction of its real cost on Craigslist. I was expecting something to be wrong, but all my worries were dispelled, when the seller took my money and asked about the device he was giving me: "What is it?" Turned out he was selling off old family things, without knowing what they were.
      The 5500 - that one I had to pay over $400 to get, but I still think it was a good value. Looking at modern RTX cards selling for $3K+, retro suddenly looks a lot more affordable.

    I really thought that Diamond Card at 10:44 was the Voodoo Banshee... 😅 I should have read the sticker on the backside properly before wrapping it up I guess...It is also made by Diamond, at first glance it looks similar, but it's called "Monster Fusion". Sure send me a few tubes. Then I just loaded up the extra 2 slots. Did the same thing with wave table interfaces on 3rd party sound cards. :) Fun times. I love the videos and keep them coming. I had that exact card for the G200 from Matrox. Came with Incoming and Motörhead. It is an 8MB Card that is expandable to 16MB. Never had the expansion module but moved to Nvidia when XP Plus required an odd 12MB Video memory to install

    • @enilenis
      @enilenis 3 месяца назад

      I have some of those G200's. That was my first graphics accelerator bought in 1999. I upgraded mine to 16MB and all it did was raise the maximum output resolution. Mostly useful in windows desktop. Everywhere else, you don't even notice having it. I still have my installation CD's. Tonic Trouble was another pack-in title. I also remember it having G-Police and 5th Element game demos. I have Millenium, Mystique and Marvel. I might have a single G400 somewhere, but to me it's less "iconic". My brother had the 1st gen MGA. Used it for Autocad. He's the one who got me hooked on the brand. But afterwards, likewise, I went over to Nvidia.

      My first system that I built from scratch was a P2-266 in 1999 on an ASUS P2B motherboard. I loved it to bits, but then I sold it off. Ages later got a nostalgia bug, when I decided to recreate my exact setup, and I repurchased the same components I had, spending about as much, as I did originally. Retro is at a point, where most cards are now worth more than the sticker price.

    Got some of those in my collection. Matrox is indeed, great in Windows, up to Windows XP. With additional 8MB it can run desktop at 1080p, no problem. I used memory that was branded as Toshiba upgrade for laptops, but when it arrived, it had a "Matrox" sticker on it and indication, that it was actually an upgrade memory specifically for my card. That same memory will go into Millenium and Mystique. One of them uses faster RD-RAM (or SR-RAM, I don't remember) and the other one uses slower SD-RAM. When SD-RAM upgrade is used, RD-RAM gets clocked down to match its performance.
    Voltage converters - that's pure gold. They're very rare these days. There are even scams! I thought getting something that old one was guaranteed to get a legit product. Apparently not.
    And 5500 I recognized from the pixelated image. That is my absolute favorite accelerator that I bought ages ago. Mine is still in mint condition and works without recaps. Even the original fans are still good. What a generous donor you have. I'd never give up mine. All the former Voodoo's are abundant. This one is the crown jewel. I wish I had a spare for parts, because when it finally goes, I'll be a very sad day.
    Good haul in that video. I wish I still collected parts, but I'm already maxed out. When I worked in IT, I collected everything. Every system that was retired. Took all the RAM, CPU's, graphics and soundcards, controllers, and kept few dozen motherboards (mostly ASUS). I ended up with more stuff than spare time to play with it all.

      I have multiple G200's. One of them went dead and it was the main chip. Luckily, the bios is fine on all of them. The dead card is now a potential parts donor, if my other ones die. I was recently taking apart an HP ProLiant server and the motherboard, as it turned out, had G200 for video. I couldn't believe my eyes. A modern system using a G200? Either Matrox had a huge surplus of GPU's, or maybe they still make them for industrial applications.
      The dead card I have does boot up, but then has pixelation, characteristic of a damaged chip. I did have some cards with dead bios problems, but they were Nvidia's by XFX.
