Let's just roll the loans back to what they required in 1967 when I got mine.
Student loans used to carry 3% simple (not compound) interest. No interest accrued and no payments required until you cease to be at least a half-time student for nine months; or while serving in the armed forces. Half of loans could be forgiven for teaching in a disadvantaged school district for up to five years.

That is not what happened. IN fact the courts upheld his ability to forgive student loans as long as he did it in accord with the laws that give the President that power. They held his blanket forgiveness was not authorized; the courts have heard challenges to his more targeted ones.

Can't get on board with the second half of your argument. "It was hard for me, so it should be hard for others" has never really seemed to me to be a good policy generator. How do we make progress if we don't improve over time? Second, remember that universities aren't the ones who are going to be affected by this. Student loans are almost entirely owned by private corporations or the government. Personally, I won't lose any sleep if giant debt owners or the government don't get paid back.

We can’t stop with just cancelling student loan debt without also completely revamping our higher education system, because the way it is done now is not sustainable. NO ONE should have to go into massive debt just to get a college education. It is unconscionable and it only hurts the economy in the end because it prevents so many from being able to make major purchases like a home. Cancel student loan debt but not without overhauling our higher education system.

Go into your student account, click on a button and withdraw whatever amount you want. I believe that we should stop that access and relegate the loans to the Bursars office. The student would need to apply for the loan, the same way they would a bank loan or a payday loan. The Bursars would decide to approve or not. I guarantee you if this was enacted, it would stop the debt. You can’t just through money at the problem or forgive without doing something about the availability of these loans..

OK, Harvard costs a fortune because it's a private school and they can charge what they want. Get that. But why do state schools cost a small fortune? They are state sponsored and tax funded schools. Why the high price tag citizens in your own state? Don't you want citizens in your state to be educated? Is it the multi-million dollar salaries of some of these sports coaches at these state schools (ex: Alabama football coach salary=$10 million) that drives up the cost of these school? Maybe it's time to drop the sports and get back to education? It's time to rethink the system. Maybe when these boomers finally take an exit we can change their mistakes and greed.

Let's just roll the loans back to what they required in 1967 when I got mine. Back then we considered student education an aspect of the National Defense. So I got a National Defense Student loan at 3% simple (not compound) interest. No interest accrued and no payments required until you cease to be at least a half-time student for nine months; or while serving in the armed forces. Half of loans could be forgiven for teaching in a disadvantaged school district for up to five years.
The student loan holders of today are paying interest on the interest. They have paid for 20 years and more and still owe more than they borrowed.

The high interest is the problem not the loan itself.
Just as The National Football League Financial Education Program (FEP) provides players with valuable knowledge to manage their personal finances and improve financial decision-making. SO SHOULD COLLEGES TO STUDENTS WHEN TAKING ON LOANS.
Biden is completely out of touch with reality. 10-20k forgiveness wouldn't help most borrowers. It would be a waste of money for the government.
My spouse enrolled into the Obama forgiveness program 11 years ago, @$170k/6.9% with payments based on her income and has ranged from $550 to now $790 a month that doesn't cover interest, her balance has gone up now @$180k, so all those payments have basically been flushed down the toilet.
She is happy to pay back the loan itself, but the cost in doing so feels hopeless and creates enormous stress.

Leave it to liberal minded people to throw money ( our tax dollars) at the problem instead of making common sense laws to eliminate the problem. Sorry brother, but what you're saying is pretty naive. First of all education doesn't equate to intelligence. Especially when higher education has been completely captured by ideological zealots. Secondly just look at what higher education and education in general is producing. People are socialized to go to college from a young age without real prudence involved. The college market is over saturated with people who have little too no real life skill. While the trades overall are suffering and are the backbone of our crumbling infrastructure. Lastly higher education isn't a right. It's a privilege. Not everyone can, wants or needs to get a degree. And the tax payer shouldn't be forced to pay for the college elitists who beleive they're better then people who chose an alternate route just because they got some fancy peice of paper paid for by the same people they look down on. This is nothing but an attempt to buy votes and transfer wealth from the tax payers too the college elitist cohort that regularly and consistently vote for democrats.
Edit: hopefully I didn't misrepresent what you were trying to convey

If a kid that doesn’t have the means but worked hard in school needs govt support for those kinds of jobs, they should get it. It’s an investment in our country so we produce higher earning and higher output people. Our country had so much money we can afford it. Look at the hundreds of billions given to foreign countries from Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan plus 50 others. The government creates tax revenue from many different ways to pay for this, it doesn’t have to come from a person making 60k annuallys income tax.
A lot more does need to be fixed still, ridiculously high tuition fees, predatory student loan practices with unfair interest rates
