i was in Raro a couple months ago. as a city boy, i did not enjoy it but it was nice seeing my mom happy to be back in her homeland that she left 30 years ago. my family is from Palmerston.
Hi and you for viewing my videos. I spent a whole week in Raro, I had a motorcycle and I must have gone around the whole island 15 times (at least). Loved every moment... It is the only place where I rode the motorcycle under heavy rain, it was lots of fun. There are other videos on my channel from Rarotonga...
Very lovely and informative video of the spectacular Farmers Market in RAROTONGA (Punanga Nui Market ) COOK ISLANDS, By the look of the clouds you were just very lucky to even be able to video tape that much footage. By the look of the skies the rain in the skies were just about at cloud bursting point and given that it did not stop raining for three days, I can imagine that the humidity was at about 100% and the temperature must have been close to 100 degrees F. The market was very well set up and everything well placed in the stalls and on the tables. I was very surprised to see the bananas in some stalls hanging from their branches from the ground up. Once the rain started did the market immediately close up or did it remain open in the rain for the remainder of the day. It is too bad that you were not able to videotape the originally scheduled dance display performance. This was a fantastic video that you took of the market in spite of the heavy cloudy weather. Is it normally this cloudy so early in the day?
+Michael Friedman Hi Michael, unfortunately I hit Rarotonga just before a huge tropical storm. I arrived on Friday night and I was told that the storm was coming up and that the rain would start around 10am on Saturday. So the first thing that I did on Saturday morning was to run to the market and at around 9am rain started falling. I jumped on my motorcycle and got soaked by the time I arrived back to my hotel.. then, it rained non-stop for 3 days...
Thanx for this video Vic. Brings back nice memories from my visit. They have handicrafts too and usually a dance display, as they did when I visited :-)
Thank you so much Vic for filming this fabulous video of my home of Avarua / Rarotonga and my childhood village of Te Rua-O-Te-Tonga where the Punanga-Nui Markets are located.....I wish I was there when you were filming this....As I would have beeb your Tour Guide to show you around the markets and introduced you to all those local market stall holders and together we would interview each of them about their stalls,...their different foods 'n so on....
Hello vi. Very helpful video thanks , can you tell me plz How to get work visa to cook islands , and I used to work in New zealand last 4 year back then I come back to India , please vi. Kindly reply me
I wonder how much is the minimum wage in Rarotonga? Looking at the prices of those pieces of stuff freaks me out. A coconut for $4.00 that is insane.... lol
Thank you Vic - this video was very informative - your respectful presentation to the local culture is a great plus - thank you so much
