    Brilliant brother. One of my favourite guitarists ever, so underrated. You nailed it, and it sounds badass on steel strings too.

    I love this cover because it shows the bassline that jerry persues whilst playing the other notes well done to get it to this quality im still practicing

      Thank you. I am trying to get better at that. It is tough because although the melody is in the bass line the two notes I keep plucking up are the ones that really add color. So it is almost like these are both melodies. I noticed in his live version (footage in youtube) Jerry would accentuate the trebbles more than the bass line while at the same time still showing off the bass line just a bit softer under the trebbles. So I did my best to replicate that. I have to re-record some of the most recent ones as I was not as successful capturing the different volumes Jerry did. But then again at the end, no matter how hard I try, there's only one Jerry.

      @@Kurisutchiandesu How we doing a few months after?
      I found that that beedin picking pattern the hardest.... but thats one thing. Trying to get the treble quite high and keeping that standard bassline is another thing that i dont think you can master like jerry!
      Im practicing on my dreadnaught as i like the bluegrass style too but it may sound a bit more 'genuine' on a nylon
      But hey! Who am i to talk im self taught :)

      @@bradsparks6008 so far so good. I took a break and need to start sitting down soon. I still have some songs and techniques Jerry did to learn. I may be playing some Jerry for the rest of the year until I can get comfy like with Chet. Then bluegrass and chicken picking. I would like to pick up classical and Flamenco at some point again and electric. I got another 20 years before I can be like a pro haha. Especially because of the different styles I learned. Otherwise I think I could've reached that level a hell of a lot sooner. But I got too many hobbies I started late in life and am serious about. Naturally with a little time for each hobbie the progress is a lot slower.

    Great playing, You captured the JR playing. Alvin Stardust did Guitar Star, just been listening to that upload.

      Thank you =D. It's hard to capture Jerry's or any musician's sound. I try, which helps me learn more. For a steel string as opposed to Jerry's MO which was mostly Nylon, I like to think I somewhat survived it haha. I may re-record these at some point =)

      Connor Rogers indeed. I was lucky to find a live video where you can see Jerry's hand positions etc. That helped. Trying to do the same with Woman Shy but have not found any videos of Jerry playing that tune. I might just record a chunk of it only. Your version is lovely thank you for sharing your talent with all of us and keep up the good work! Cheers!

    Good stuff! Took me a long time of watching Jerry in his green suit to get that song figured out. You done good! A lot of misinformation about his tuning out there...

      Thank you sir. I think this is one of my favorite tunes so far. Funny I was just sitting at home deciding which Jerry song I should attempt to learn next. I am lucky I was able to watch Jerry himself playing this in a RUclips video thus helping me figure out the tunning. I think that is one of the trickiest things to learn from Jerry aside from his right hand, the tunings. He was as versatile with tunings as the Old Time Delta Blues players. And he never played the same thing twice. I think Jerry was a genius =)

      Forgot I gotta re tune it and I will get back to you on this. Is one of those rare tunings Jerry so very much loved to use =)

    • @Kurisutchiandesu
      @Kurisutchiandesu  6 лет назад +1

      My god I apologize for the delay. So I messed with the song again it is basically a traditional drop D with the B treble tuned a whole step up. I sorta forgot my letters for the strings since I am mostly self-taught (lack a lot of theory) but you tune the B (treble) to a C sharp (C and a half step up) Now, before you do this and because of what you are about to do to the 2nd treble know that Jerry also did a half step lower for drop D. So, basically, you start on standard tuning then do the drop D traditional tuning first, next you lower the tuning in all the strings a half step lower (a trick is to compare your Drop D bass to Jerry's original recording so that you know you are in the right path), then tune the 2nd treble (B string) up a whole step to C then a half step higher on the C (Csharp? Remember this will be a half step lower to what the normal tuning would be) See my first chord and try to copy it to ensure is the right tuning. Wish I knew more theory so that I could explain a bit better. I am sorry but I hope this helps a bit. Hoping this will make sense. Also, you must know, Jerry uses a combination of the claw hammer technique and Chet Atkins's bass technique without the muting. And, do NOT hit the strings hard - let it flow naturally. You want to hear the actual singing part (treble) of the guitar part but with a consistent and "even" bass to back it up. Don't put too much bass, relax on both treble and bass - the open D(s) should help with the background for the treble parts. My videos are bad quality with just a webcam but once you start playing the song yourself you'll see what I mean.
