That's the problem with upping the brutality as wars go on. The soldiers on both sides get so scared of what the enemy does to prisoners (if they are taking any) that neither side sees any future in surrendering, so they fight to the death. Everybody dies. Don't mistreat your prisoners if you want the other side to surrender.
David Hunter Well it is surprising to see how the west and east treated their prisoners after the war. The east used them to remove mined areas and stuff like that and helped rebuild cities like Stalingrad, they weren't living in good conditions but they weren't living in bad conditions either as they were given food from the large supplies the Soviet had and volkssturm were often sent back home after the war. On the other side, the west had small supplies of food in Europe as they had to supply it from over the sea, most Germans soldier (even volkssturm) were sent in mass to demine the atlantic wall with little food and with little to no care of their supervisor.
Yeah true, Soviets reformed their military and came up with new strategies to counter German ones throughout the war while Germans stuck with the good old blitzkrieg. Battle of the bulge, Kursk.
The ardennen offensive was a surprise attack. However nobody had calculated correct regarding the narrow streets avaialbe for the german tanks. It was the same streets used in 1940 but at that time the tanks was much smaller. So it ended up that the Tiger II alwas was lacking behind and the calculation for the fuel needed for the operation was just to low of that reason that the Tiger II tanks used to much time to wait with turned on engine and drive forward to the front in a speed there were to low ending up that most of them actual run out of fuel. That was the reason for germany lost the battle of the bugle. Hitler did know that hes plan of an attack at Kursk was not going to be a surprise but this time he told his generals that it was not a big thing sinse he would have 600 new Panther tanks as a surprise for the russians. But most of the was not able to participate in the battle because of engine fires or final drives breaking down. So it was not possible to smash through the russians lines as fast as expected for the germans. Actual The generals told Hitler it was still posible to win the battle if time was prevented for them. But Hitler knowing that the allied had landed on Sicily stoped the campaign because he needed the troops for defense of Italien.
Incredible that the Germans continued to resist at that point. Thank you for some important yet neglected details about the last days of the defense of the government sector (Zitadelle). All of the accounts I have read do not document the specifics regarding the surviving panzers from the Nordland and Muncheberg Panzer Divisions after the battle for the Seelow Heights, including even LeTisse's work. Multiple sources make reference to the role of the few panzer units that survived Seelow in holding the German defense lines in Berlin those last few days, and generally reference how these units were almost out of ammunition. From your video these Tigers obviously had some remaining combat capability and fought to the end against overwhelming odds.

You just grab the pop corn, and watch the happy mix of pseudo-expert historians, actual people who have something relevant to contribute, neo-nazis, germany apologists, neo-stallinists, soviet apologists, revisionists, ultra-allied propagandists and all of their glorious shades of grey and various respective degrees of stupidity and illiteracy. Free rule of thumb for the improvised historians in here : Never judge history. That's the most efficient way to make it as non-objective as possible. If you "pick a side" you alter history by bias. Collect and communicate facts like Dr. Felton in a neutral manner.
Kenneth Bowers oh yeah the French, as you are speaking about them as if they didn't even fight when they had to fight a battle that they couldn't win, being forced to retreat on roads blocked by fleeing civilians having to flee their homes only to later see their countries occupied and violated. Yeah you know, the French.
I didn’t know the story of the King Tigers in Berlin; I only knew they were there. I also knew hundreds and hundreds of Russian tanks were destroyed but did not know which German arm did that.
There's something that needs to be considered here. The Soviets had thrown caution to the wind, there was a race between generals to get to the Reichstag. Therefore, the Soviets threw massive amounts of tanks forward with no regard for losses. This is why it was easy pickings so to speak. The Soviets lost an incredible amount of armor in the battle for Berlin, it also from AT guns, Panzerfaust, tank mines, etc. King Tigers NEVER had this level of success in other theaters and scenarios. On balance, the King Tiger was not a good logistical weapon. They could have built many, many more Tiger 1's with the resources that went into developing King Tiger.

My father fought on the "Seelower Höhen" as a young german soldier from 16 years "old". He didn't told me about the King Tigers at this Battlefield in 1945, but as a last stand of assault- tanks, Tiger I , Panther and 88mm guns until the last granates leave to the red army front. He surrended on 30th of April 1945, only 300m in front of the destroyed "Reichskanzlei" and went as a POW to Küstrin. Sure some Kingtiger getting in the last combat action in the streets of Berlin - Mitte. No many succese for them in this awful days with so many victims on both sides.
Protestnik Vorgon My father was a Tiger Tank commander at the battle of the Bulge. To listen to him, the only reason they lost is that there was no support with fuel and ammo beyond four days. When they finally ran out, the two tanks he was joined up with surrendered to the Americans. He was promptly hired by the USA after the war and sent to Venezuela.
Such beautiful machines and so powerful at the same time. The problem was that their production was time consuming and expensive, but no doubt they could destroy dozens of enemy machines before they were knocked out, if only the crew was well trained.
While these situations make for great stories (especially for those who insist upon bolstering their worship of German armour & soldiers to near-mythological levels), the fact is that a significant portion of the high number of Soviet tanks destroyed during the Battle of Berlin can be attributed to the cheaply-manufactured & simple Panzerfaust in the hands of gutsy German soldiers & citizens hiding in the ruins.
I think on both sides the rahrah, and the dismissers are annoying. I look at it from the standing of a WWII fan. As an American I cannot doubt the proficiency of the German armor. I would have loved for my boys to have the Panther/Tiger/Stug IV instead of the Sherman, would have made our job much easier. I know there is a stigma because the Nazis where the dark side. Produce enough with what it isnt only production it has to do with resourses wich it barely had the whole idea of blitzkrieg was to defeat the allies and grab their resourses before they loose theirs in a war of atrition
Scrapping knocked out tanks was common practise by all nations after the war. People were understandibly much more concerned with clearing up and rebuilding than going to considerable efforts to save crippled and wrecked tanks, especially ones belonging to to country that started the war in the first place
Think of how much concrete reinforcing bar can be made out of 68 tonnes of scrap steel. A damaged immobile tank is only so much scrap iron. Steel was at a premium at the end of WW 2 when all the rebuilding was to be accomplished in the bombed out cities across England and Europe. The Egyptian scrap metal merchants scrapped the Y Bar picket and barbed wire fencing around the desert minefields the Commonwealth and British forces had left there for public safety.
Makes you wonder, instead of 11 King Tigers, Hitler could’ve had some 1100 Tigers and assault guns ... had me not wasted them at the Battle of the Bulge!??
How did they get fuel for these tanks during the last days of the war when only Berlin was left to be taken? It's amazing that they even had ammunition.
This was good. The King Tigers probably belonged to 56th Panzer Brigade "Muncheberg". The King Tiger was the definitive defensive weapon, there just simply were never enough of them. Good stuff!
Bit of an exaggeration. Sure, they introduced tanks with better guns an armour but they were also extremely slow, unreliable and consumed far too much fuel.
very interesting to hear that 1 kingtiger managed to fight numerous t34s and is2s. It is, because some poeple on youtube are trying to convince us that is2 was able to pen tiger 2 frontaly.
In my book, Panther was the best tank germans ever built in ww2. Good speed and mobility with great gun and armour. it was also cheaper than the tigers, and was completely capable of getting job done. Tigers was just a waste of resource
Erik Ahl The red army was not a human wave army that whoever refuse to obey goes to the gulag. I could talk about it but I'm sure you can research it with better information (you can start with their deep operation tactic if you want a starting point for your research). I'm not trying to be mean or anything. Also just to note, for any point you or someone else could make im not a communist and would hate to live in a communist country, im not spreading communist propaganda or anything like that.
Dont compare soviet and german tanks if u play some stupid games because in games german tanks have to be balanced to make game enjoyable, but in real life german outgunned by tanks... Soviets couldnt even hit on longer ranges even with 122mm cannon because they had bad cannon optics... German optics were superior by far, king tigers worked in groups so u would hardly get a chance to shoot in its back or sides because it was protected by buildings and crews knew what they were doing
More than 100 tanks destroyed... 39 tanks destroyed in a single day... Yeah, yeah, of course) "Hordes of Russian tanks and men lied down around us dead and destroyed but we still could win the war if not the madman Hitler..." Fairytales ;)
You know the story of the commander of the King tiger Bromman and Korner, they were also from the Norland panzer division and fought in Berlin, he received the knight's cross from Hitler on April 29, 1945
One king Tiger distroyed 39 Russian tanks, very good , and a tiger l distroyed 22 Russian tanks T34, not bad, so the Germans had very good technologies at that time.
Ironic. ..314 couldn't be knocked out by the Soviets but was done by a German mine

@@fudgedog123 muh supply lines, rommel was a hack.
Nah they had plenty of extra tanks and planes, but no fuel to use them :/
Produce enough with what it isnt only production it has to do with resourses wich it barely had the whole idea of blitzkrieg was to defeat the allies and grab their resourses before they loose theirs in a war of atrition
Aaron Laundry also they ran out of fuel
This video puts me in the mood to play Panzer Corps on Steam (with "Erika" playing in the background).
This tank was worthy to be kept in a war museum. But no one can expect any sane act by Soviets.
at least they saved a few unique tanks like the maus at kubinka
Muhibullah Hamza they already captured some tiger 2 before the battle of berlin
They had several already for museums, why would they need another?
It’s hard to believe that there are idiots here on the internet that deny that tigers were better
Makes you wonder, instead of 11 King Tigers, Hitler could’ve had some 1100 Tigers and assault guns ... had me not wasted them at the Battle of the Bulge!??
It’s incredible that so little was put in place to defend the Oder-Neisse front in comparison to what was sent to defend Hungary
When enemy is on your spawn
The kills claims are highly suspect.
wow...GREAT work mate. Short intense information. Amazing.
That is very manly background music. Wonder what the name of the song is?
You forgot to mention how he and his crew were captured by the Soviets.... but oh well I guess.
the germans had good tanks when running, but were kind of finicky to work on. while the sherman could be rebuilt quickly
Im glad this man survived
How did they get fuel for these tanks during the last days of the war when only Berlin was left to be taken? It's amazing that they even had ammunition.
Doesn't feel like a mark Felton video without the regular intro tune!¡¿?
Which Name has the Music from 0:03 ?
Erika
Soviet troops hated zuhkov. He had no problem sending 100s of thousands to certain death to please Stalin. Berlin is a good example.
The absurdity of your comment makes me laugh, Zukhov was loved by his men.
the Germans make good stuff.....
Should Do A Film About This, amazing stuff!!
Danke für den Dienst am Vaterland!
This was good. The King Tigers probably belonged to 56th Panzer Brigade "Muncheberg". The King Tiger was the definitive defensive weapon, there just simply were never enough of them. Good stuff!
So fascinating..
The Germans outclassed the Allied troops on so many levels.
Bit of an exaggeration. Sure, they introduced tanks with better guns an armour but they were also extremely slow, unreliable and consumed far too much fuel.
Sad isnt even a good word to Express the waste of german tanks why would they scrap that = zero to none german tanks = lost history
Die Gotterdammerung....das ende
very interesting to hear that 1 kingtiger managed to fight numerous t34s and is2s.
Oh, a tank was scraped. Let's read 1038726161 comments about what a shame that is, as in all your tank videos.
A movie about this last stand should be made!
🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮
Brave men, great story!
Although king Tiger was the ultimate king but it can't fight with almost 30x multiplier.. With having few remaining troops.
God Bless all the Brave German Soldiers and Civilians. Best Fighting Soldiers !!!!!
179 Red Army disliked the video
Bad ass tank!
210 SJWs were triggered by this video. By the way, that last tank, number 314...3+1+4= 8. Just sayin'
Most German Tanks Run out without gasoline
No matter who they Where fighting for making a stand against the red army is nothing but pure bravery if not Madness.
Erik Ahl The red army was not a human wave army that whoever refuse to obey goes to the gulag. I could talk about it but I'm sure you can research it with better information (you can start with their deep operation tactic if you want a starting point for your research). I'm not trying to be mean or anything. Also just to note, for any point you or someone else could make im not a communist and would hate to live in a communist country, im not spreading communist propaganda or anything like that.
this would make an excellent movie :)
but they are really huge which always fucked up by RUSSIAN Bias and British tea power ;((( in War thunder my Tiger H1 fucked up a lot !!!
@Rick Stuifzand sensible decision. Proved right by history.
Warning, comment section is full of wherbs
Your videos are extremely high quality. Thanks for making them
You are too kind
you should have mentioned that the ss nordland was pretty much all swedish.
More than 100 tanks destroyed... 39 tanks destroyed in a single day... Yeah, yeah, of course)
"Hordes of Russian tanks and men lied down around us dead and destroyed but we still could win the war if not the madman Hitler..."
Fairytales ;)
Another superb video. Have you considered doing one on the forgotten King Tiger ace, Kurt Knispel - an idiosyncratic and unique war hero?
LAST STAND
You know the story of the commander of the King tiger Bromman and Korner, they were also from the Norland panzer division and fought in Berlin, he received the knight's cross from Hitler on April 29, 1945
Always very informative videos obsecure facts thank you....
Resolute to the end!
One king Tiger distroyed 39 Russian tanks, very good , and a tiger l distroyed 22 Russian tanks T34, not bad, so the Germans had very good technologies at that time.
Spandau is not in the North of Berlin at all.. it is in the very West!
