I remember a guy i knew had "Canis Canem Edit" and I had no idea what it was when i borrowed it but I enjoyed it. It wasn't till years later i learned it was the UK censored title of Bully. Apparently this was only a problem on the PS2 though because it was available on Steam and Xbox 360 as Bully:Scholarship Edition and I own it to this day. For those wondering it's latin for "Dog eat Dog"
I'm actually surprised the Hot Coffee mod /GTA SA wasn't on the list. That was massive. Not violent, but 100% controversial. Worked at EB Games at the time and remember having to place AO stickers on the game boxes.
@@Banquet42 I believe it was just the PC version, but even still we had to tag all of the copies as AO. I'm sure now with modded systems it can be accessed on consoles too. Pretty hilarious.

Thrill Kill is a good inclusion to the list but it's a game that never popped on the store shelf since EA who bought the rights decided to can it and no one got to play it until a leaked rom of the complete build appeared online.
I remember playing the terrorist scene in COD as a teen. I remember thinking it wasn't too bad, and thought that people were over reacting. Looking back, I have some mixed feelings. My school had a shooting, after i had graduated . Thought I knew teachers/coaches who passed. I don't blame video games, I still enjoy FPS but feel like more tact could of been used during the development. Not a fan of hatred/Postal , thats just violence without reason/substance. Thought COD did get more and more violent and upped its usage/display of torture.
The funny thing about Manhunt being banned in Australia is that it was available for a couple of weeks/months before the governor-general decided to call it and got taken off the shelves. Why the sequel didn't get released in Australia was out of fear that it would get "refused" classification.
The Punisher game was a perfect love letter to the Marvel Anti Hero. the comic book writers came to write for this game while bringing loosely up the movie's main BAD, John Saint aka Jigsaw.
An honorable mention should go to Conker's Bad Fur Day. A cute squirrel on a Nintendo console (a company most known for their family friendly titles) in some very adult situations. That caused quite a stir among angry parents.
7:44 Is that a reference to the game's name being changed to "Dog Eat Dog" in Latin in the PAL region? Edit: also, I don't think Mr Thompson cared that he was wrong about the actual story of the game. This is the guy that tried to sue the Penny Arcade folk for making a charitable donation in his name when he issued a challenge to make a game about video game violence causing the death of a child causing the child's father to go on a rampage against video game developers.
4:04 I still, if the old Xbox happens to be plugged, play the hell out of this. I agree that it is amazingly violent and that I probably shouldn't have played it at 9 years old, but damn I cherish those memoris so much. Also, they censored the times when a special interrogation went wrong and honestly, that made them all the more shocking. If anything, I hated botching those because it was too much.
I finally got Hatred last year. Wanted to see if it was really all that bad. It's definitely wasn't as bad as I thought. I mean you for sure a mass murderer killing civilians and cops. And the guy in the story is pretty much just a psycho out to cause chaos. Though I didn't realize the mod I downloaded "666" that made the game better, actually added a school shooting level where you kill VERY young kids. I stopped playing at that point. Until I realized it was a mod added level in the "666" pack. Without that level the game definitely isn't to bad. As for actually gameplay, the game is actually very fun. It's gets really challenging. Especially with the destructible buildings. And the ending is satisfying as (SPOILERS) you die. That said, the discussion area is toxic on Steam. Everyone is an edgelord. Thankfully I only paid 49 cents for it. So the dev isn't really making anything from me.
at least the Punisher could be patched on PC & had a trainer for Xbox (assuming you had a modded one) to restore all the gore. Hatred a great bit of fun & the first person mod is great fun as is the super power mod. As for Postal thats just a great fun series of games (except for 3 of course, even RWS say to avoid that travesty developed by another company). Manhunt just put a big smile on my face, to be fair so did all the others as well, I never did understand all the fuss over what lets face it is just a bit of fun that harms no-one (unless you believe npcs have souls & lives in which case I'm going straight to a very not firey place someday)
Gotta say, never played Death Race or Manhunt. Manhunt just seemed dumb. I did try all the Postal games but never got far into them. The "edgy" humor quickly wears thin and you see there really isn't much to them. While there is alot to hate in the game, seeing the cat silencer really was disgusting. Granted you don't have to use it. If you don't know what the cat silencer is, probably don't want to want to look it up. The game is very much for adults who having grown past being edgy.
Manhunt is far from dumb, both Manhunt games are absolutely great and play great. Though you want the to Play the PC version as the PC versions are uncut.

The Punisher game was so damn good, I remember playing the hell out of it as a kid.
I'm surprised nobody found a reason to ban Kirby. What with his literally eating sentient beings.
That’s the mainstream media’s agenda so I’m not surprised!!! They protect their own!

Or GTA's "By The Book".
If I’m not mistaken here in Australia they had to rerelease the game on ps2 because of it.

We need a new Punisher game

People (mainly Americans) go out of their minds over violent video games & films yet they're totally fine with guns being readily available 🙄
They have to find their scapegoat for all those school shootings and similar such scenarios happening all throughout the year in The USA.
Don't appologize for your German, Peter. Nice job. However, now let's hear you say "ch" and some Umlaute ;)

Outside of any obvious controversy, JFK Reloaded was kind of interesting, at least in terms of a physics study.

Not to mention that it didn't end up being published by Nintendo in the end, it was handled by THQ.
Outrage over "Manhunt" being justified? I concur, bc that game is just ...
Triple Jump controversial game time
Computer games don't raise bad kids, bad parents do all that.
meanwhile the punisher comic books was advertised in kids comic books.
Hatred is a game that really wanted to be Harvester so badly but wasn't as clever
Hateful and not clever? Sounds exactly like what you'd expect from it's creator.
Has no one at Triple Jump ever heard of Rule of Rose? Because that game became controversial because of a little thing called the Italian press.
The game I played when I was 8 is too violent for RUclips. Can't believe censorship has gone in the wrong direction for this long.
