The MP40 is definitely my favorite of the two. It looks much better cosmetically and it sounds so much better! The MP54 sounds like a swarm of insects angrily charging at someone.
According to Wikipedia "During periods of low power demand, the locomotive can operate on just one engine to reduce noise pollution and boost fuel efficiency" So likely it was only running on one engine here as it was arriving at Union. At full blast departing a station I'm sure she's nice n loud!
@@krypto_9872 In that video i think it is running at all or 3 out of its 4 engines in that double header. Never seen a go train rocket out of a station like that before they got those double header MP54 consists.
This was shot on a balcony at the end of the skywalk, the glassed in walkway that runs from Union station to the Rogers Centre. Great place to see the Westbound traffic out of Union Station
I don't care what the Internet says, the MP40PH has the best 710 Prime Mover Sounds

That's why the new ones sounded different from a EMD 710. Great video!

To my ears, the MP54AC does not sound pleasant. I much prefer the MP40.
FreihEitner even though they my cousins, I agree with you
i like mp54 better then mp40
I really wish the MP54 was chosen for future Amtrak service. But it doesn’t meet clearance standards
Does anyone know where this was filmed i know its near union station but where can you get that close to watch the trains

Dows anyone know why the newer MP54 Locos are running tandem units? I see this in the video & I've seen this a lot lately.
They are still running tandem so they can get data on how to run them more efficiently or something like that
I like MP-54AC locomotives engines better!.
