When I first saw clips of this show I was so excited. I thought he was sweet to her and they were so cute. I had started watching full episodes. However, he turns into such a terrible person it's a complete turn off. I have no interest in watching yet another show where a man abuses the women and children around him without consequences.
The version of Qianlong in Yanxi Palace is better. He's more level headed. The series is more comedic (although there's still the drama and unfairness of life in the palace) and has a happy ending. I saw that first, so it took me a while to get on board with Consort Ling being good.
Yes, it's very sad but also very interesting. I cried so much watching it, but I couldn't stop watching 😅

The problem is that with absolute power comes absolute corruption in most cases not all.
@@hpr2008 I find myself loving Yanxi Palace more in the first watch compare to this, but now years later when I rewatch, I find myself rewatching clips from this show so many more times. The emotions, nuance and the plotting between all the women are done much better than Yanxi Palace. Yanxi palace is more satisfying to watch on the first go, but the writing is not as good unlike Ruyi's Royal love.
