All light from the sun has been completely consumed in the perpetual blanket of fog and darkness. Day by day my sanity wears away as the cold and dark burrow their way into my mind and soul. My grip grows ever tighter on my bow as I wander through this hellish place. I fear that I am no longer the hunter, but the hunted. The end draws near, the End is always near...

It’s been 3 days since you left the village, 3 days since you last saw another person, you grow weary from the isolation as the sun sets and winters embrace creeps ever closer. You consider setting up camp for the night, until you see another village in the distance, you pick up the pace, hoping to reach it before night sets in. As you approach the village you immediately sense something is wrong, there’s lights but, no cattle, no noise, no village guard, you slow your pace as you enter this seemingly abandoned village.
You walk through the desolate road, you want to shout “Hello” but your paranoia stops you, as you continue your walk you find a tavern, “surely someone or something must be in there.” You think to yourself. You enter the tavern cautiously, your sword drawn, your unsurprised yet concerned that the tavern is as empty as the village, you walk to the bar table, lighting a torch as you go, and find an open journal, the last page half written, you flip through it and find an entry around the same day you left the last village, you begin to read.

I hate Wendigo contracts. I genuinely do, but the village is paying top coin for me to deal with this problem so I can’t complain too much, still something about the forest irks me, even before I got here. Ah well probably just my paranoia, I should probably start getting ready to venture into the woods, this’ll be just peachy.

That was no Wendigo, couldn’t have been, it looks like one, but doesn’t ACT like one, hell I saw it before it saw me. Lemme start from the beginning, might help me get a proper picture. I go into the woods, start looking for signs of Wendigos, half eaten animals, human remains, stuff like that, thing is, there was nothing to suggest a Wendigo resides here, aside from the deafening silence and lack of living animals of course. I climb atop a fallen tree and see something shamble to the right, I take cover and I see the damn Wendigo, but it doesn’t move like one, shambling, dragging its arms behind it, tripping on its own feet. It turned its head and I saw these weird looking pustules the size of my fist just...erupting from its skull. Wasn’t long before I saw the animals, they had the same thing the Wendigo has, a few wolves, some elk, a bear, and a bunch of small animals, foxes, rabbits, etc. They were following the damn Wendigo, I got away as quietly as I could, clearly I need to renegotiate my fee.

Guess who’s getting extra gold for their troubles? This guy! After I got back I spoke to the leader of the village, telling him that whatever is in the woods isn’t a damn Wendigo, and that if he wants it dead, I’ll need more coin. Took more convincing but he gave in and now I’ll get a bit extra for my troubles, still that thing creeps me out, I’m positive it’s not a Wendigo, unless Wendigos can get sick, but I doubt it. Going back in there tonight.

I brought the “Wendigos” body back to town, everyone and their mother just rushed out to see it, some know it all said I lied, that it was a Wendigo, I shut him up by pointing out how it’s face and body was covered in boils and pustules and how there were these weird black tentacle things coming out of its ribs and mouth, kid still called me a liar, kids these days, anyway I got my coin so I’m happy. I’ll probably move on, locals seem upset, just heard one yelling outside, apparently some peop-

The writing stops there, you put the journal in your satchel and leave, as you leave you think to yourself “this doesn’t explain why this village is deserted.” You continue to walk deeper into the village, into the center of the village and see dead animals, 2 wolves, spears through their backs, their chest torn open, strange black tentacles protruding from their eyes and mouths, you look towards the center and see the body of the Wendigo, on the ground, it’s chest ripped open. You carefully approach the body, you poke it with your sword, then stab its head, once you’re confident it’s dead you get closer and see it’s torn open chest more clearly. Eggs, there were eggs in its chest, dozens of eggs, all hatched, the ground surrounding the body is covered in a white liquid that appears to glow, as well as blood. The realization dawns on you, whatever happened here happened just before you got here, frantically you turn to try and see if anything is still here, nothing, there’s nothing at all.
You ignore the overwhelming dread as best you can and move on, as you approach the otherside of the village you see footprints, dozens of human footprints, all moving to the same way you are. You carry on however, despite your gut telling you to turn around and run, you carry on, eventually making your way out of the village, you then see the footprints diverge and move into the forest, still moving forward. As you continue along the path you see a road sign, an arrow pointing forward saying “Ukinfel” and one pointing behind you saying “Sladinfar” as you read you look to the right and see a few wolves, walking along the forest edge, one stops and looks at you, its right eye replaced with a black tentacle, it’s jaw missing, white bulbous pustules erupting from its head, it then carries on, following the others back into the forest.

It has been 42 days since the apocalypse began. Everyone went crazy. I still remember the day, when I went to the night club with my buddy, Matt. We were drinking some whiskey, when we heard the news on television. I clearly remember the woman said: "There has been reports of numerous murders throughout the United States. All of the victims were killed in the same way, they were stabbed 3 times in the heard and had pentagons carved into their right hands. Witnesses repo..."... Silence. Nobody said a word, even the music went off. Suddenly, I heard a scream coming from the street. Me and Matt rushed out with a couple of people from the club. What we have seen was traumatizing. The first thing I saw was the body of a woman. There was blood all over her, and there was a man sitting beside her. He was eating her heart, but she was still alive, trying to scream but the pain was too great. I saw something on the man's forehead, it was a number, 666. That moment, I knew what was happening. When I processed everything I had just witnessed, I heard another scream. Then another, and another one. I saw people running down the street, shouting "OUR LORD HAS FINALLY COME!" Me and Matt got in our car and went out of town. We're hiding in the forest to this moment. He's out gathering wood I think. Wait, I heard a noise.. Matt? Is that you? Matt? ...... Oh god... No.. Matt, stay there! Stay there! No, NO! AGHH--!

Too much cliche, and predictability. I would say cut back on the heart-eating stuff and 666. I liked the premise though, an apocalypse caused by satan-worshippers.
I roam these woods every day. What is it about them at night which fills my heart full of dread? I trudge the well-worn path, sticks breaking under my feet as I fight to make it to the cabin across the river. Sounds fill my head, and I begin to panic. I must get home. Primal instincts rush through my brain as my feet frantically patter against the ground, yet I feel as if I am going nowhere.
I scream for help, but nothing comes of it. My own voice is stifled by my otherworldly fear. Shapes move in the darkened trees, and shadows jump about every corner.
Snarling. I can hear the snarling groans of the creatures of the woods.
The light from my cabin comes into view. I must cross the raging river to get to it. At once, my fears are realised. The vicious canine is blocking my path. I can't get by. Either I drown, or I die.
I have nothing to protect myself.
My life must end.
Something about this piece has always given me chills. It really does carry the vibe of "Look over your shoulder, as your demise could be approaching at any second"
Every corner you turn might be your end. Every breath you take could be your last. Momento mori my friends...the end is always near.

This made me come up with a story.
I am lost in the woods, I've been here for several days. Running from the unknown, whether it is chasing me to or from a destination I do not know. I do know that I have to keep running, or else the beasts with the minds of men will well and surely kill me. I come across a strange cabin, inside I am greeted by a terrifying sight, the beasts that are chasing me have been here before, and they know I am here, I quickly arm myself, a shotgun, an army rifle, and a knife are my only weapons. My wits come into play, and as they come in, I quickly set fire to the cabin as the beasts entered, at least if I died I would take them with me. And this is it, this is my last journal. If anyone reads this, beware the other beasts that are out there.

I am an editor so I would really suggest taking out the part where it says, "will well and" then it goes on to say surely. That didn't really make sense their. This is just constructive criticism, not me being rude.

I was a 911 call-taker/dispatcher in Portland, OR and received a call from a strung out girl. Story was she said her boyfriend had been doing meth for three days and owned a lab. She was screaming that he had wiggly, purple worms in his arms and there was blood everywhere.
Turned out that they were his veins. He was literally out of his gourd on crystal meth and tearing at his flesh and ripping out his veins! I did not want to live my life on their night shift taking calls like that so it wasn't long before I switched professions.

The days have blended together ever since I was separated from my hunting party. How long ago was it, again? A day? A few days? A week? A month? Ugh, I’ve lost count. Only constantly on the run from the monster that ambushed us.
My provisions have since run out, and I sat beneath a tree that has long since fallen, riddled with vines and moss as I drank the last sip of my water. Did the others survive and make it out of this god forsaken place. Did the monsters that live here kill them? These thoughts have plagued my mind ever since.
Then, I heard it.
That same growl.
It was here.
I froze, staying perfectly still for fear of making even the slightest sound.
But I couldn’t mask the stench of my fear.
And I was certain that this primal fear will be the end of me.
I could only watch in horror as a large, black, clawed hand dug into the rotted bark, followed by the hideous face of my hunter, its shining green eyes piercing mine.

Entry 01
It's been 6 weeks since the outbreak, right now me and my buds are just layin' low keepin' away from those...things until we find more survivers. Me, Luke, Raymond and Terry are all that's left as far as we know, my best friend Lydia was with us but we lost her to the hord that ambushed us 10 days ago. It might be a while until my next entry, Then reason this is my first entry is 'cause I didn't have anything to type on until now. We tried getting in contact with others and possibly millatary but no luck, our radio is a peice-o-crap! If anyone's out there, please help us.

I was thinking something like that
Day 4: The power just went off for a second. Shit. I shouldn't have gone up the space elevator to the Observatory. Whatever the ELCA said was up here is coming for me. I can sense its presence right now, in this building.
Day 6: Another bio-signal showed up on the monitor. It's in my wing of the Observatory, just further down the hall. I went to investigate the location, Office 29A. What I saw scared the shit out of me and still does to this day. It was a corpse. A corpse...with my face. On the ground next to a pool of black liquid was a beeping bio-signal tracker. I can't stay here with the corpse, not with the black liquid stains on the wall and the mysterious symbols clawed onto the wall.
Day 7: 1 more week up here. I've gone to barricading the main hallway from whatever might be hunting me. The only things I'm granting myself access to are the bathroom and the last office in this wing with a working computer. I think if I restore this wing's communication dish, I can call for help.
Day 8: IT KNOWS. I HEARD A HORRIBLE SCREECH THIS MORNING. I've restored the communications dish, but all the damn signals are jammed! Unless...have I been intentionally sealed in here? No, that can't be. After the dish went back on, that...thing must have broken the dish on its own. How'd it get outside the Observatory? Whatever this is...it isn't of this world.
Day 10: Nothing's been happening now for the past 2 days besides worsening nightmares. Every time I sleep...I see something. Too many eyes on the head...looking in every direction. Too many limbs...with uncountable fingers. They phase through each other and in and out of existence. But what scares me the most is the teeth. Rows upon rows upon rows of TEETH, with nothing but a black void at the back. Wait...the lights just went off. Fuck, I'm going to have to leave my little compound.
Day 11: NONONONONONONO. I went to turn off the lights and I SAW IT. IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I'VE SEEN IN MY DREAMS. AS SOON AS I TURNED THE LIGHTS ON AGAIN IN THE ELECTRICITY CLOSET I SAW MY HAND WAS STAINED WITH BLACK BLOOD. IT WAS ON THE FUCKING CIELING. GET ME OUT GET ME OUT GET ME OUT.
Day 12: The black blood, or goo, or whatever it may be has started to leak into my compound through the vents. How was I supposed to know it can do that? I'm feeling very drows..y..
Day 14: Sorry for not writing yesterday, but it broke into my compound. I collapsed yesterday from the sheer stress and woke up to that thing climbing the wall and etching symbols into it. For the first time..I saw what the symbols were. They were very crude depictions of the creature. When that thing came into view, I grabbed my gun and blasted it. It let out the worst noise I've ever heard, almost as if thousands of horses were screaming in agony. Where it went I don't know, but it left a trail of blood and a sort of...note. The trail ended in the docking wing, next to a paper with a sloppy warning "I FIND YOU I KIL YOU BEWAR ME I AM CMING". I backed up against the wall and began to break down into laughter. For the past two weeks I've been faced with death, a death that I knew would be horrible and always around the corner. Yet it all came down to this stupid, childish note. I'm going to the elevator chamber and getting out of this place. I HATE SPACE I HATE IT I HATE IT GOD HELP ME.
November 22nd: It's been 9 months since I returned to Earth. The ECLA payed for my 4 months of psychological assistance. I'm not sure why the encounter was so scarring, but I've recovered since then. So for the past 5 months or so, everything's been normal. No more horrible Class III cases from the ECLA. I don't want to go back up there. I want that thing and that cursed place destroyed.
November 24th: Screw the "everything's been normal" note from 2 days back. I...I heard the sound of scratching on my door. The moment after I stepped out, I stepped straight into a puddle of that blood. That horrible blood. I turned around to face my door, and...a crude depiction of the creature I saw all those months ago. It's coming for me and I don't know what to do. As I'm writing this, I hear tapping on my window. It's been getting louder and I don't know who's doing it, but I fear I will die before I write my next entry. I ACCEPT MY FATE.
*ECLA Case File III-224C: Jan DeJong was found deceased in his home on (REDACTED). The most likely cause of death was the extremely large bite wound present on his chest. The body parts that were taken out in the bite have not been recovered. Recommended action: Complete destruction of the Observatory and all records of Mr. DeJong. This thing has an innate sense of who last made direct contact with its victim, and it hunts them. It was our mistake to let DeJong speak with Victim 224B before his demise. We caused DeJong's death and will eventually cause the death of his cousin (REDACTED). We've gotten in contact with (REDACTED) and are trying to explain his fate to him. I stand there. Mesmerised I look at this beast it's mouth hung a jaw it's unending stare with it's pale white eyes it looks at me like I am nothing simply a toy and that is exactly how I feel I clutch my bow for some kind of security but it does not work my breathing heavy and laboured i raise it towards the beast. Is it...smiling? No it can't be. It seems to be taunting me almost asking me if I dare do it I know my bow will have no effect on it but I'm good as dead already so it's worth a shot as I pull back the string is snarls saliva pours from its mouth I hesitate but it does not stop me I let go i hear the whistle of the arrow as it approaches this beast and it hits it in the right thigh...it doesn't move an inch no reaction it jumps down from tree it was standing on I know see it's true size completely shrinking me I hear it's breaths i know this is the end I am paralysed with fear it slowly approaches a look of malice and somewhat one of rage i do not run or attempt to hide as I know it's futile he finally stands before me and I know this is the end it raises a giant paw and brings it down I simply close my eyes and everything goes dark
