This video includes one of the video instructions I produced for my Maker Batteries battery-building kit.The kits didn't get funded on Kickstarter, but hopefully the video I produced wills till be informative and useful to anyone who wants to watch it.
Visit www.EbikeSchool.com to learn a lot more about building electric bicycles, batteries and tons more!

You tutoring skills are exceptional.
I DON'T IMPRESS EASILY.
You da Man!!
This was an instructional video for a lithium battery kit that I tried to crowdfund. Even though I didn't get funded, I hope the video is still interesting for you guys.
EbikeSchool.com Hi, your video is very interesting, I love it. Pls can explain me, after fixing your BMS, It need charging and discharging your battery for test or not?
It's a good idea to charge your battery up and discharge it at least once or twice to test it. You should monitor that first charge and discharge to ensure everything is working.
this video was great.

Wasn't even aware of the KickStarter for the Battery Kit.
Why don't you sell the Battery Kit on your Website ???
why 4 strips instead of 1 wider thicker strip? everything looks Nat and clean except for that. Personal preference, but I'd shift the row in the background over one to the right to make a more square pack and have the connections go to one end and then return back so that your +&- are right next to each other making for shorter leads.
Nooooo this music makes me sad! I would have bought pre spotwelded parallel batteries but my country won't import them, so I bought a spotwelder and bought local cells, plus it's fun to spotweld👌🏼 btw I have not found any, any other channel more useful than yours, thanks to you I'm able to completely build safe, efficient powerful batteries. Thanks heaps mate, top lad👌🏼
I Have been searching and watching for how to make own battery of your own.but in this video he has made it so simple and easy. keep it up:) and Thanks alot...from Germany
From Aussie a big thanks my e-bike kit is on the way i have a 48v 20ah battery but want to start building just for fun.. have you're books just starting off happy happy
This is like battery building asmr 😉
you could sell the kit your self
pre weld a bunch of 1s3p bundles and then sell them on ebay and as you rake in the money then build more kits and built the operation bigger from that.
you could also set the kickstarter project to be longer than what ever the default is or even take the money and start another kickstarter or even use multiple kickstarter like sites at the same time kickstarter, gofundme and patreon all at the same time and rake in the money and combine the money
Thank u for what r u doing
it is helping young developer like me
Thank u soo much
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you found my videos helpful!
Satyam Kumar thanks too,I want to know I hope to help by products battery pack, I need your email adresse for better understanding and explain you all details
It’s helping me to 👌🏼
Another very informative video, thank you.
If you have a dual Noter
Scooter, du you simply solder two discharge cables to the cell?
Plan on building my first battery pack for my electric skateboard, do you have any how to videos on building a flat battery pack?
superb content, i would have bought a kit from you.....
great video, but do you really need a bms? would it not be better with a low voltage alarm connected to the balance lead , so if you get a low cell the alarm will start to beep....seems the bms gives you no feedback, not sure if its even working or not??? can you buy a bms with a voltage read out?..thanks..also never used a bms on a lipo, for years i just used a low voltage alarm connected to the balance leads..
Awesome video I wish I was able to be there to help make batteries I like doing stuff like that
Interesting design! - I'd like to see different color caps to help keep the pos-neg straight during assembly.
What is the recommended torque for the 5.5mm nut/stud?
Thanks again for a great video. Keep them coming.
Can you please tell me what advantage the Panasonic NCR1850PF have over the Samsung 26F if use to make a 48 volt battery pack of 10ah with 54.6 volt as voltage when the battery if fully charge. The battery pack will be used on a 1000w ebike motor with a 26 amp controller. The battery will have a 30 amp max current bms
Can you spot weld those strips instead of soldering?
Hi. Can we have the full products list please? Cheers
Very understandable 👍 video !
Many many thanks to you.
You made a 10.5 ah pack so can we increase the cell modules to 6 per cell parallel to get 21 ah?
For a real kit, how about beefy pre-cut connectors to avoid all that stacking while soldering ?
How come you soldered the series connections, instead of spot welding them?
I have ebike model MATE X-750W.
Battery 48V/14.0Ah fail.
42V output on terminal -when turn key to ignition position -drop to 0V.
What can i do?
I have scooter 2000 watt with 60 volt and 20 amp... I need to change the battery to 60 volt and 50 Amp
Is it ok.. Or it is a problem for controller
I just found your channel. Thank you for posting such great content.
Feedback for the Kickstarter... I liked the idea but, for me, the cost savings weren't enough to justify the time required to build. batteries myself. However, as pack sizes increase and build techniques simplify with upcoming 2670 cells, you may find a large market.
The page was very well done and it gave me good confidence in your knowledge. The Msker Batteries logo could use a professional touch though. It still looks too generic to instill confidence in the brand. Everything else gave me good confidence in your brand.
I felt like I got lost in too much information on the page and lost sight of why I might want a kit. If you were to focus on your main value proposition and keep it highlighted (only) vs. technical details, I think it would have been less likely to get drowned out by the mass of info. I.E. trust the market will trust you and only focus on helping people image what they could do with your product that they could not otherwise do.
I'm subscribed. I feel confident that you will figure out a way to connect with a market. You are definitely on the leading edge of an upcoming trend so good luck and thanks again for your contributions.
Thanks Tony, that's great feedback. I appreciate it. I'm looking at doing a small production run with fewer options and lower prices soon, so hopefully I can make some improvements and see if this idea still has legs to stand on.
XT60 enough for my 1000W DIY Ebike kit?
My wattmeter said 29A @1363W
How do I choose a BMS for my solar batteries I want to make them 200ah each.
How where can I source good batteries for a low cost including shipping to Florida?
Question or suggestion: With your Vruzend individual solderless battery connectors, do you make a connector that forms a triangle? If not, one that can take three batteries glued together and instead of the plastic going around just one battery, have one that goes around just the outside of the three batteries glued together so you can make smaller compact batteries. Love your videos and thanks for all the content you provide. Peace, Maurice
How would more amp hours be achieved ? More cells ?.....
do you sell the kit
What if the cells are rubbing on eachother from vibration and the plastic seals on them wear and some cells at different voltages touch?
Wish I had your equipment! Found your channel and am considering building my own kit just like this but have to figure out how to spot sauder my batteries. How much does this kit cost to build? Thanks for all of this awesome content. Your instructions are clear and concise. Very good videos
Can u still get thethoies kits and it so what do they cost
What size solder wire you use for this project ?
Where can u get this kit please tell me thank u
Great video!👍🏼👍🏼 what type of bms is that tho?
Just checked out the Maker Battery site brilliant explained everything so even I understood with my limit of making a battery as I need a minimum 48v 10ah battery and wanted to save money making my own, thanks so so much, do you sell these kits as I was to late for funding and wondered if you may have any. Like I said thanks so so much for your help.
Great video! My kid has a 36v 500w mini dirt bike, I just took the battery apart to see if i could upgrade it and found lots of spare battery slots. Would you be able to help me with the configuration if i sent you some pictures? It has a 3 x 12v 8ah lithium 18650 pack batteries (40 in total). I would ideally like to add an extra 12v and maybe a few extra collective AHs. I have 18 extra used 18650 to add, various voltages from 2.2v to 4.1v. Thanks
Another great video, shame the kickstarter didn't work out. Can I ask, would there be any benefit to making a 52v pack 15s cells and only charging to 4.0v per cell. Thanks
The advantage would be that the pack would have a longer life, meaning more cycles. The disadvantage would be less capacity in each cycle. Charging to 4.0V on li-ion equates to about 75-80% capacity, from what I've seen.
How many amps are in 1 battery?
I’m assuming 3.5 amps per battery and connect 3 batteries in parallel to get 10.5 amps.
You got 14 sets of them times 3.7 volts in series to get appx. 52 volts
Hence,
“52 volt 10.5 amp Lithium Ion Battery”
Correct me if I’m wrong?
Why didnt you just write on the tops and bottoms on the nickel?
Great video!
Too bad about the Kickstarter not working out. Was a great idea.
Question: would it be better to use solder a solid copper wire for the series connections?
Hi, just a quick question, why do you solder in between blocks of 3 cells when you have a spot welder
Thanks
Chris
I just think a spot welder would be whole lot easier than soldering. Especially if your doing a lot of these.
I want to make a 24 volt battery 7s3p but do not think my 35 watt soldering iron is big enough for soldering the parallel bars between cells. What size soldering iron are you using?
were can i get these batterys in the process of building 1 . 4 my 48v ebike thanks
36v 15ah diy lithium ion battery pack diagram please
I like that kit can I buy one
It was a good video. It's annoying the project didn't fund. The ebike universe is not very big in the US, and the manufacturers don't really want their factory bikes to be open systems. So you are stuck with builders and potential builders. There were some comments on your system that showed a lot of animosity to just building basic batteries.
The RC enthusiasts have a much more open system and they seem much more willing to buy basic systems. But they don't tend to build large packs. I'm not sure if the RC people were aware of Maker. I am going to try to build an ebike pack from a 6s pack, 2p 2s, and just use RC charging. (Four packs, paralleling two sets of two packs in series.) It's a Titan pack marketed for the RC market as a LiPo replacement. Nothing is really locked down in the RC market, not much proprietary stuff.
Maybe you could make a version of the MB wrapped and with connectors (which is what Titan does) but skew it for ebike voltages and AH rating. Just plug some XT 60's into a connector cradle, and have a connector for a BMS. Or just balance charge with the standard RC chargers. There are some packs that are useful for RC and ebike builders, I suppose. I've used Lipos. Battery Bloc is an interesting mechanical system.
I think the smart thing you did was to build blocks of parallel cells, with the tin in place. If you haven't thought about the whole pack building thing, all the issues and pitfalls, it doesn't seem that significant. But you have some structure and you have a pattern to follow, and you minimize the damage from the soldering, it's pretty significant. It was a solid, compact pack.
Interesting opportunities in the RV market for lithium. i don't know when it will move away from LFMP, which seem more heat resistant and are considered less explosive. You can probably find a good market somewhere.
Thanks
great video and very informative
Can you give me a 18650 cell layout and wiring diragram for an aluminum drawer type rear ebike battery pack? I want to DIY a 36volt 10 series 5 parrelle 18650 3.7volt batteries put inside an aluminum box that mounts on the rear rack of an e-bike. Please I need some guidenace on this project.
where could we get the foam?
In this set up for the 52v how much would you say it cost you to make that battery? Also I want to purchase your book....where can I get it?
hi please can i use 30a bms on a 40a controller
What a great video!
great video, thanks!
when you weld the nickel strips, why 4 strips give less resistance than 1 strip? i thought should be more resistance...
Think of each strip as a lane in a highway. More lanes means more room for cars to flow, so less traffic. Now replace lanes with strips and cars with electrons.
were are these kits
Why don't you just use copper wires that can carry more current for your series connections
I would buy a 24 volt 9 am kit and pay for shipping to the uk cheers Shane
do you have a set up up (sub c cells) yet?
What are the dimensions of that battery pack? Height, Length, Width? Thanx!
Nice video! What bateries did you use? How many mah ?
Hello Micah, thank you very much for the knowledge you share. I have just finised reading the DIY Lithium Batteries and its asome. I have to questions, 1: Charging and discharging at the same time afect the battery life? 2: Its better to buit the batteries when each cell its near to the nominal voltage instead of hi or low voltage? i suppose that because its safer in that voltage. PD: In the page 120 of the book i think the diagram its wrong, there are a few "+" and "-" inverted. Saludos!! Att: Daniel Palacios
1. Theoretically you can charge and discharge at the same time, but discharging current is usually much higher rated than charging. 2. The bigger issue is spending long periods of time near the top end of the voltage range, as it can degrade the cells over time. You're absolutely right about page 120, I see the mistake now. Thank you for pointing that out, I'll update it!
EbikeSchool.com thank you for the answer. But if the battery its offen charge and discharge at the same time, for example if i put a big solar panel in a trailerbike to charge moving, affect the durability of the cells?
Very thanks again , I will contact you
I'm thinking of making a 72 v battery with Samsung INR18650 25R 2500mAh batteries.
If I put 3 in parallel, would that mean that they would be 7500 mAh ?
and if I had 20 batteries in series at 3.7v each to get 74volts, would that be Ok to use on a motor that handles up to 72volts ? or would it be better to use 19 batteries and have 70.3 volts ?
So, the plan is to either have 57 or 60 batteries with 19 or 20 cells and each cell consisting of 3 batteries for a 7500mAh rating.
Would this work ? and how would I know how many amps would come out of it ?
Your math is correct and 20s is fine for a 72V motor, it's actually standard. The answer to "how many amps would come out of it?" is "as many as you pull". Your load decides the amps. 25R cells are rated for 20A though, so the max you should try to pull is 60A if you have three cells in parallel, though staying below 50A would be healthier for the batteries by not pushing them to their limits.
Hi
Mike I'm from India and I plan to buy e scooter , Basically here in India lead acid battery pack only comes with e scooter but I need lithium ion battery pack as per my E scooter specifications. Can you send those battery pack in future if I need ,Let me know the price of the battery pack ( 60v 24ah, 72v 45 ah) along with shipping etc and payment mode.
hariharan venkat it will cost ₹40-50 thousand
Where can i buy this kit?
Do you sell these 52 volt 10 amp battery? I need to run my dog at 30 mph, for 3 miles. I think this battery would accomplish that.
Dude you are awesome
היי רציתי לדעת איך אני יכול לרכוש את הספר diy lithium batteries אני גר בקרית מוצקין
how "BMS" Works ?
makes me want to build an electric car
What you mean by : I didn't get funded?
Hi Bro. .. can I buy some batteries from u ?
Too much liability. We don't know who is making the 18650 cells. They're not safe. We all need to move away from 18650 cells. The quality varies tremendously and you won't know unless there is a fire. Price competition is lowering the quality of the higher quality cells.
Where can I buy cheap cells 18650?
There are links in the descriptions of most of my DIY battery videos.
Pls, can e-mail you
