That is a lot closer than I thought it would be. I understand that the GH5 ii has an updated color profile more like the S1H but if they are that close without the update…….

Indeed and as we enter 2022, the GH5 is still a really good buy. I'm also looking forward to seeing what the GH6 brings 👍

I shot my last short films with the GH5 and LEICA 12-60MM. For anyone who's thinking about which camera to get...I promise you won't go wrong with the GH5. Just watch my films and judge for yourself!
As you can see in Nick's footage, the difference in video quality is practically imperceptible.

The GH5 is such a powerhouse...everyone should have one 😉👍

Wow, I thought I was gonna upgrade but...now I don't think I will. The GH5 isn't far off, and based on preference, some of the shots even looked better. I truly believe with a little bit of post work, contrast, tint, sharpness...you could match these cameras w/ no problem. I'm a GH5 owner and running Metabones + Canon glass with it as well so, I love it. Was gonna upgrade but, nope...not any more lol.

Yes, I've been using the GH5 with Canon glass for years. Love it. Panny knocked it out of the park with the GH5 for video.
The few reasons I bought the S1H, and main differences to the GH5 are, the S1H has:
      1. Better stills (if you don't shot stills, moot point)
      2. 6k/5.9k for bigger crops etc in post
      3. Full frame sensor for richer bokeh*
      4. RAW video should a client request it
      5. Dual native ISO for low noise at high ISO's
*In hindsight, I should have opened up the stops on the GH5 for this comparison to allow for the GH5's 2x crop factor effect on DOF.
      I.e. S1H @ f5.6 = GH5 @ f2.8
I may do another comparison taking this into account and, as you say, match everything 100%.
All in all, the GH5 still rocks for video so if you don't need the above, no need to upgrade. Spend the money on glass 😉

@@NickStubbs How's the weight difference? If got GH5. Maybe buy a secondary for stills XD I think the main selling point was the rotating screen for both GH5 and S1 variants.

      @@elijahnoah GH5 = 662g, S1H = 1093g both with no lens.

It's more details in the s1h but the gh5 is close. That should fair well for someone wanting a gh6 like myself

Agreed. I will more than likely be trading my GH5 in for the GH6 on release.

Yep, the GH5 is a little beast and still worth getting in 2021. But the S1H does have a ton of advantages. Especially in low light situations the S1H really outperforms the GH5.

Indeed it is so imagine what the GH6 will be like 😉. The S1H in low light is outstanding and hopefully the GH6 will have Dual Native ISO.
