Welcome to the official Australian Open TV RUclips channel. The Australian Open 2024 main draw runs from 14-28 January in Melbourne. The tournament takes place for the 112th time and is the first Grand Slam of the year. Novak Djokovic is the men’s singles reigning champion and Aryna Sabalenka is the women’s singles reigning champion. She only goes one pace... HARD! Only a few players can handle her pace. But those who can (e.g. Rybakina), are finding it predictable. If Sabalenka can vary it up, she'd be unbeatable.
I absolutely agree, it definately works against 90% of her opponents which is why she will remain in the top 10 for a long time but it's very much predictable and the top players are now finding way to work around it and beat her. I NEED her at the net a lot more then it will be even harder to beat her. She has already worked on her defence, she is now chasing down balls and mostly getting them back, i like that. Just a few adjustments then she will be THAT girl. 🔥
What is a “pace”?
@@nhlanhlamakhanya2285 She's not terribly good at net. Doesn't seem to have the hands for it. Despite improving her feet, she is still not a very successful defender. Just doesn't have the footspeed. She's a basher for a reason, and I love it. Go get 'em, Aryna!

0-6 3-6 against Rybakina. Then there is Gauff and Swiatek. So all have a recent winning record against Sabalenka.

@al87221 Definitely not guaranteed. Gauff has improved since last year and beat Sabalenka at the US and defended he Auckland title. Rybakina is fresh and healthy because it is the beginning of the season and beat her easily a few days ago. Swiatek is an obvious threat. Add to this the pressure of defending the title, which is greater than last year as she has a lot of points to defend if she is going to have a chance of regaining the #1 spot and the finals she is getting to but losing.
All this without talking about the other players in her draw.

@thecookie0079 You said it. If she plays her best tennis. Last year, there was no expectation due to the 2022 serving problems. However, that increased as the season progressed. Sabalenka didn't play her best tennis in important matches. The French semi, Wimbledon semi, US final. She has shown she can beat anyone. But not in recent finals.
