      To think of lesser players being supremely petty in their lesser rivalries - these two stand head and shoulders, literally and figuratively, above the fray. I watched the AO final between them live at 4am US Eastern Standard Time and regret nothing - so thrilling I thought my heart would burst at moments!

      I thought Sabalenka has that hard character and attitude but this awarding proved how humble she is. Now i understand how the ways she played inside court with how she really behave off court. She is just aggressive yet very humble one. I start to liking her and being her fan...congrats Rybakina. Great play you showed in the game.. invincible. What's nice about Sabalenka is that she is genuinely good natured and deals with victory or defeat with grace and humor. If you have seen any of her off court interviews it is hard not to like her. When they are playing well these two are for me the best watch in tennis.

      Genuinely? Part of a bigger PR effort implemented around the time,when she was criticized for not condemning the war. The "just-die" handshakes and death glares were replaced with smiles, cutesy antics and attempts at jokes. The change is for the better, of course, but it was very deliberate.

She seems like she would be just an over confident and unlikeable player. But, man, I love her attitude and her sportsmanship. She REALLY won me over during the 2022 USO against Keys and Gauff. Every player should have right to play under her/his country's flag. One cannot choose the country of one's birth.
    WTA/ATP/ITF, stop this nonsense and do not mix sport with politics.
    Appointing "flag police" at the AO 2023 was not even childish... it was embarassing and insane...
    Wars are run by politicians not sportsmen/sportswomen.
    Why during the invasion of Iraq, 20 year bombing of Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen and Pakistan not to mention the genocidal Vietnam war US, Australian, UK... athletes were allowed to compete under their national flag?
    USA invaded Iraq in 2003 and yet their flag was still allowed at the World Cup 2006 in Germany and 2010 in South Africa despite the fact they were still in Iraq. Either ban ALL flags of countries who go to war, or don't ban any of them.
    Another example; are Israeli (Para-)olympians responsible for the policy of their government towards Palestinians?

    • @Tennisisreallyfun
      @Tennisisreallyfun Год назад

      Oh, I so agree with this statement! The ATP/WTA just wants to look like they’re “doing something” with regards to the conflict so that they can get political brownie points. Shame on them for coming up with blatant discrimination as their method of “doing something”, shaming and humiliating these innocent athletes and using them as scapegoats for something they have nothing to do with!!! Needless to say, I was deeply disgusted to hear that the Olympics in Paris this year will only allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete as neutral individuals. Not only will they not be allowed to represent their countries, they won’t even be allowed to compete as members of a team, the team spirit being core to the Olympic experience!!! It makes me sick just to think about it.

    • @Tennisisreallyfun
      @Tennisisreallyfun Год назад +2

      Unfortunately, RUclips deleted my comment. I do not know why as I wasn’t being inappropriate (no curse words, links, self-promotion, lewd content, etc). I was simply agreeing with you. What the ATP/WTA is doing is wrong. These athletes have nothing to do with the conflict, and yet they are being used as scapegoats simply so the tennis organizations can be seen as supportive of Ukraine which on its own is fine (I too support Ukraine) but should be done without harming innocents. There is no excuse for harming innocent athletes just to get political brownie points. I wonder if you heard about what the Olympic Committee has decided regarding athletes like Sabalenka and Rublev for the Paris Games this year. Not only can they not represent their countries, they’re not even allowed to compete as members of a team. They have to compete as independent, neutral “individuals”. The team spirit is core to the Olympic experience!!! I was so disgusted to hear this, I feel sick and sad and ashamed just thinking about it🤦🏻‍♂️
