  • My first and only lap in 2022 in an old Mercedes - Benz SLK R170
    I took it easy because it was the first lap and the track felt quite greasy/green.
    The SLK was mostly stock, except foe the Exhaust.
    The SLK was a surprisingly good car to drive on the track. The only downside was the brake system. I had pads explode at Wehrseifen and Brakepedal to the metal at exit of Bellof S. (Not in this Video though)
    Pascal who is now at Auto Finesse helped me to get that fixed. \o
    So if you intent to use the SLK as Ringtool you should definetly upgrade the brakes.
    Other than that I was just wishing for stiffer/adjustable shocks and bigger wheels.
    I used Maxxis Premitra tyres and they worked fine.
    The automatic transmission did a great job of delivering the power smoothly.
    I was amazed how well the ESP in this car worked because it would still let you have some fun with doing Powerslides before it would ever so gently take away the power and work its magic.
    The older AMG test drivers would always tell me how much fun they had test driving the SLK back in the day at Hockenheim and I can see why that is.
    I sold the car later on because I just feel more at home in compact FF cars. Also a Roadster is not really practical when it is you only car.

    I have an SLK320 R170 as my classic hobby car. I'd love to do this too! I have upgraded the brakes with drilled and grooved discs. Will be trying it out on Oulton Park here in the UK soon.

      Also upgrade the brake fluid. Be aware that the brakes of that car have a tendency to overheat. My first set of pads just evaporated. I hope you have a lot of fun!

      @@PFCKruger yep already done that too. Good advice. It brakes far better now it's like throwing an anchor out the boot!

    Excellent Video and Driver! Slk It’s squishy on cornering and smart to take them tight ( I’ve lost cornering myself previously, It’s such a low, heavy smooth ride, speed for advanced drivers only cornering!!)

    danke für das schöne video. 230k, grosse riehmenscheibe und llk, gechipt, 250ps+... daily lpg driver im ratlook, von 360k bis 500k km hat er mich sehr glücklich gemacht. nie probleme. ❤

    Im so jealous right now i have this car and its a 5 speed manual teaching myself how to drive a manual. I would love to be able to not only drive mine to the Ring but Really give it the beans around the track, then drive it back home.. Its a dream of mine i will accomplish one day.. Germany is 3k plus miles away though 😂

      I'm sure there is a nice racetrack somewhere in your area. 3000 miles? Wow, careful planning will be neccesary. Hope you can make your dream come trough one day.

    gut gemacht wegen der tachoeinblendung. was für ein gerät braucht man dafür?

      Einfach ein Android smartphone und die Software "race chrono" installieren. Mit einem Adapter fuer den OBD Port kann man auch noch weitere Daten einblenden. (Drehzahl, Kuehlmittel...) ABer man muss sich etwas reinarbeiten.

      230K MoPf mit Automatik. Abgasanlage war ein 20 Jahre alter Supersprint der eigendlich mal fuer einen 200 ohne K gedacht war. :)

    I believe r170 is classy car, not for racing.
