Did the pandemic signal the end of the American era? | The Bottom Line

  • Canadian-American anthropologist Wade Davis holds a mirror up to the United States and sees a society in decline.
Davis argues that the US dominated the world in the post-WWII era because Americans came out of the war with a sense of common purpose. A vibrant, educated middle class dominated.
But now America’s social fabric is damaged, according to Wade. The top 1 percent have greater wealth than the bottom 90 percent and the promise of a decent life for a working family is shattered.
Join host Steve Clemons in a conversation that looks at today's America, inside out.

It is a hilariously good system for preventing extremism. Because when you have an extremist, people are already criticizing their work before they’ve had time to ruin anything. The U.S. is a declining economic power. In 1960, the U.S. accounted for 40% of the world's gdp. China's share was only 4%. Today, the U.S. share of the global gdp has dropped to 24%, a 40% decline. Meanwhile, China's share is now 17%, a 325% increase.
Using Purchasing Power Parity, China's gdp is already larger than the U.S. Despite the per capita gdp being only 1/5 of the U.S , its domestic retail market is larger than the U.S. In 2020, China's FDI was the largest in the world.
Since 2009, China has been the world's largest automotive market. It is the largest market for both BMW and Mercedes. 40% of Volkswagen's revenue is from China. GM sells more cars in China than in the U.S. China is also the largest EV market in the world. Of the 4 largest EV battery manufacturers, 2 are Chinese, BYD and CATL.
The U.S. reckless military spending, poor fiscal and monetary policies have resulted in this decline. Trade sanctions, embargoes and tariffs will not improve the economy.

America’s obsession with individualism, while seen by many as what has brought it a degree of success, is the millstone that prevents it from maximising its potential.
Individualism by its very definition prioritises the singular over the many.
Some would argue that individualism has enabled progress that wouldn’t otherwise been possible. However this model is responsible for the ever-declining middle class and the corresponding problems and costs of the widespread poverty caused.
Rather than addressed, these problems are normalised. Without meaningful change matters will continue to deteriorate.
The only way out is for not one, but a succession of competent, charismatic and visionary presidents who incrementally wean Americans away from excessive individualism.
It’s not to turn America into some sort of socialist state, but invoke policies that strengthen and expand the middle class.
The economic activity of the middle class fill the coffers of government and the wallets of the wealthy. Reducing poverty lessens the burden on all.
The rest of the world might mock America, but deep down would much prefer it to do well. Everyone would be much better off if it did.

And if the USA is declining, what does that say about the rest of the world. Are These other countries going to dominate the USA Economically & Militarily ?
China might pass the USA in certain sectors, but that does mean the USA goes to the bottle of the barrel.
I dont see the USA falling under the #2 Spot.

“While I was thinking about the horns, there before me was another horn, a little one, which came up among them; and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had eyes like the eyes of a human being and a mouth that spoke boastfully.
    “As I looked,
    “thrones were set in place,
and the Ancient of Days took his seat.
    His clothing was as white as snow;
the hair of his head was white like wool.
His throne was flaming with fire,
and its wheels were all ablaze.
A river of fire was flowing,
    coming out from before him.
    Thousands upon thousands attended him;
ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him.
    The court was seated,
    and the books were opened.
“Then I continued to watch because of the boastful words the horn was speaking. I kept looking until the beast was slain and its body destroyed and thrown into the blazing fire. (The other beasts had been stripped of their authority, but were allowed to live for a period of time.)
“In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.
“I, Daniel, was troubled in spirit, and the visions that passed through my mind disturbed me. I approached one of those standing there and asked him the meaning of all this.
“So he told me and gave me the interpretation of these things: ‘The four great beasts are four kings that will rise from the earth. But the holy people of the Most High will receive the kingdom and will possess it forever-yes, for ever and ever.’
“Then I wanted to know the meaning of the fourth beast, which was different from all the others and most terrifying, with its iron teeth and bronze claws-the beast that crushed and devoured its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left. I also wanted to know about the ten horns on its head and about the other horn that came up, before which three of them fell-the horn that looked more imposing than the others and that had eyes and a mouth that spoke boastfully. As I watched, this horn was waging war against the holy people and defeating them, until the Ancient of Days came and pronounced judgment in favor of the holy people of the Most High, and the time came when they possessed the kingdom.
“He gave me this explanation: ‘The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on earth. It will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth, trampling it down and crushing it. The ten horns are ten kings who will come from this kingdom. After them another king will arise, different from the earlier ones; he will subdue three kings. He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws. The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time.
“‘But the court will sit, and his power will be taken away and completely destroyed forever. Then the sovereignty, power and greatness of all the kingdoms under heaven will be handed over to the holy people of the Most High. His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will worship and obey him.’
“This is the end of the matter. I, Daniel, was deeply troubled by my thoughts, and my face turned pale, but I kept the matter to myself.”

I think the point really is meant to showcase that in such a prosperous country how such basic services can be hard to come by. We are willing to spend trillions of dollars on military tech but when it comes to infrastructure we somehow don't have the budget for it. Yes its nice that you can go find local wifi but shouldn't every area you live in rather rich or poor have access to the most basic utilities (and frankly internet is now a basic need.)

Oh dear! You obviously know very little about the development of the vaccines. Scientists have been working with coronaviruses for around 40 years. The Covid 19 vaccine was developed from the Covid 2 and MERS vaccines. Scientists were able to begin development of the vaccine in January 2020. There is no mystery about the vaccines. You just need to read the science articles and university papers.

It’s different technology from previous vaccines. I’ve read explanations of it, but would not be able to portray it accurately. A pandemic had long been predicted by people with experience in the field, and substantial money had been used to prepare to deal with it. During the Obama administration, and possibly before, there was a government department set up to be on the alert and start proceedings early on if a new and dangerous virus was detected. On of the first things Trump did was to dismantle that department and fire the professionals.

You don’t even have to be a marxist to see there’s no real contradiction between slavery and the free entreprise culture. Slavery was big business in Brazil too, but for different reasons - there wasn’t an available workforce to rely upon - , and it doesn’t show the same racist features not only because of miscegenation - as is the case in Canada too - as much as for the fact it never had an entrepreneurial culture before the european migration introduced it. It’s curious, though, to notice that the U.S. was also flooded with european migrants, and it didn’t change their stance on racism or “rugged individualismo” at all - that’s the point, by the way…

The lives of Americans really began to become systematically problematic right around the time that the first Bar Association was formed in 1878, shortly after the end of the war in 1865…and then the act of 1871 creating the separate and independently sovereign pagan capital city known as the District of the goddess Columbia along with it’s own police, complete with expanded jurisdictional privileges, just like the City of London’s Inns of Court at Chancery, The Crown Temple Bar, and then the smallest internationally recognized sovereign nation, owner of all others, including the world bankster currency lenders, governed by the Jesuit’s black pope who’s a marionette of black nobility.
The purpose of the American bar, was never a secret, as it was set forth in its first constitution, "the advancement of the “science” of jurisprudence, the promotion of the administration of justice and a uniformity of legislation throughout the country...."
That last point tells you all that you need to know, “a uniformity of legislation throughout the country.” This is a direct attack on what the civil war really WAS largely about, states rights…
Unlike the untruthful and ignorant narrative dishonestly promoted by racist leftist ideologs who narcissistically play the role of society’s victims while demanding unearned “entitlements.” When will people learn?
The fantasy known as “equity” is resultant of a people who have believed that reality is material and therefore put their faith in the materials gained by their contracting with the devil…
True wealth can never come from material gain
    It is already within you.
