I like how he kept saying, "don't think you can really fight multiple people in real life, it's only a game."
I remember a story from a judo fighter, he was vacationing in Thailand or something. He accidently caused trouble with a drunk and caused a small confrontation. It eventually started to grow and they started to fight. It was easy to maintain one guy but then his friends came and then more and more. In the end he got overwhelmed by sheer number and just decided to run.

No matter how skilled a person is, if there are enough people, he will be overwhelmed.
With that said, of course, the number must still be considered, but if he is to have any chance, his techniques must immediately incapacitate each individual opponent. I mean pressure points, broken limbs, and knockouts.
He must be so effective that his skill psychologically incapacitates any would-be newcomers.
Otherwise, he can forget it.

As a Pak Mei practitioner (from the HK lineage) I love this game for how closely the combat captures the intracies of the techniques; it's the closest in representation to my style I've ever seen in a computer game, despite the specific lineage differences. Really interesting to hear a fatsan Pak Mei Sifu give his insights. His student did incredibly well in capturing a realistic representation of their art along with the makers of the game in keeping it real as possible

I think we in the traditional martial arts, and Chinese styles in particular, sometimes over obsess about lineage and relatively minor differences in the grand scheme of things, and lose sight over the far greater similarities in technique, theory, strategy and power generation that we share, compared to other styles. As a result we can fail to appreciate the idiosyncratic differences of our respective styles - which clearly came from the same or similar source - and lose the opportunity to develop and deepen our understanding of our own methods, and the different ways they can be utilised. Clearly fatsan and hk Pak Mei share a tremendous amount in common and can also learn from each other. As for Sifu, I think this is the best representation of Kung Fu and group combat I've ever played, and I've been playing fighting games since the double dragon and Street fighter 2 days! I never thought I'd play a game that utilised so many ways of attacking the throat or dislocating the knee, it's about time!

I wouldn't say diverged. Who knows which one came first, because CLC Pak Mei use the same or very similar engine to my style (Lung Ying) @@zetareticulan321

Shows how faithful and accurate his student has been taught by him, can tell he is very proud of it.
I like how he kept emphasizing that in a real fight, one attack string like you can do in the game is basically lights out if not death for whoever is on the receiving end. That’s a lot more damage than the body is meant to take at once. Haha
he also said that combo strings in the game is "unrealistic" as usually it ends fights quickly. He mentioned that if a combo string done correctly, there is no need to extend it too much, and go for the finisher (usually incapacitates or outright kills the opponent)
I don't practice Pak Mei, but a lot of movements and fundamentals are very similar to Wing Chun, something that I have practiced for quite a bit.
This awesome sifu Lao Wei San understands his own craft very well. Hearing his responses while analyzing the movements throughout the game and how excited he became when seeing Pak Mei applications was superb! Beautiful video!

@@JONNY.BONES.SENPAI from what i can understand, the guy is trying to talk about the origin of wing chun and pak mei.
Both these styles are from South Shaolin(not sure is these referring to a location or a school of martial art). 白眉道长(fella name) created Pak Mei on Mt Emei, and 五枚师太(lady name) founded Wing Chun. Both martial art are regarded as traitors of Shaolin, from the system and technique one can tell that males with a strong and sturdy physique is more suitable for Pak Mei, and males with weaker body and females are more suitable for Wing Chun.
Disclaimer: I am only a translator, and do not know the techniques, ideology and history of these two martial arts.

@@JONNY.BONES.SENPAI traitor as in when China was still in the dynasty period one emperor gets overthrown by invaders and as the Manchus chinese won the Han Chinese who "sided" with the Manchu for some personal benefits instead of fighting to the death are considered traitors even if they didn't actively participate in any sort of betrayal. White Eyebrow is being touted as traitor but who knows what he did. Some say he just packed his bag and went home as Shaolin Temple was ransacked and other masters murdered while he lived because he struck a deal or some crap.
Super great video, it was very fun to see Sifu Lao Wei San note the accuracy of the game’s techniques, and the differences between application in a game and application in real life! Much respect! 👏
Love the video. Would like to know his thoughts on the ground strike, thrones you perform when picking up an opponent. I hear it’s looked down on but didn’t see a reaction from him about it. Thanks Benjamin for your contributions! Glad to see the master so happy with the results

I feel like the picking up after the ground strike is more for fluidity of the game. Other wise you’d just keep repeating the ground attack.
@@aquaticlibrary Yeah I asked the same question because all the other games any move you do on a downed opponent you do it to keep them down or finish them. In Sifu you bring them back up and they immediately recover into combat condition ready to strike.
Sifu Benjamin said it's a Slocap decision they made for how they wanted the game to play. And frankly I think it's a mistake. Surely Ben mo capped for them more moves on a downed opponent, for example with a machete you should 100% finish the opponent that's on the ground.
While it's not a Pak Mei philosophy to never hit a downed opponent in order to allow them to get back up and continue the fight honorably. Pak Mei being as brutal and raw a form as it is you'd think it goes for fast knockdown then escape, like Master LWS said your goal is to protect yourself, not looking for a fight. Dragging the opponent back up to keep beating him I know Master LWS will say that's a video game thing. Very hubris, bad Wude.

I was focusing more on the real Sifu than the game Sifu... You could see the deadly moves that the Sifu displayed.. amazing.. Just every tehnique is inprinted in his DNA.. its like Bruce Lee said - I do not hit, it hits by it self.. It comes so natural for him without even thinking. Absolutly amazing. I've been practicing a lot of martial arts over the years, and thanks to Sifu I've come across Pak Mei. I'm practicing by myself with a punching bag and try to land a few moves when I'm sparring with my kickboxing friends. I have a lot to thank for to Sloclap, Benjamin and Sifu Lao

Just started learning another Hakka style (ChuKa) Southern Praying Mantis 2 years ago and I just had to get this game! Its really helping me understand Hakka martial arts. What are you thoughts to those who has Bak Mei is still a joke? Theres this "former shaolin monk" who makes youtube shock jock videos who had a lot to say.. After learning a Hakka martial art, I personally put down northern shaolin, its more practical than people think, and really dangerous to "spar" with, because the moves are so deadly.

Well, no need to put down Northern Shaolin, they have some good stuff too. People who like to talk down on other styles really are just insecure about themselves when they dig deep down into their psyche. If you are a fan of martial arts just practice it and enjoy it, no need to care about what other people think!
I don't know nothing about it, to be honest ranta or something like that, that ex shaolin youtuber, he is one of the most informative people about shaolin martial arts in modern days, that people don't brag or try to prove anything. But for what he explained, how they train, and how much, thinking even the best of mma of any weight could stand a chance against a shaolin warrior is ridiculous, and i watch mma. There is this guy mma in china who exposes a lot of fake martial artists, i don't know what were their thoughts about the efficiency of that or if it was all a scam, but he destroyed them. So that side in china is still there, we could say at least the inefficiency in self defense at least and i definitely can say the scam of others that are just plain ridiculous and not have even history or proper rituals. But Shaolin are just another thing, when i saw those videos of that ex shaolin explaining how they train and his story i was shocked, i saw some documentals when some old shaolin appeared but they just showed they advanced trainings and not much more about all, like hitting their adan apple against a staff, and some talk. With the few i know, they basically breath and eat training, it makes you think how originally the martial arts were slowly created. They are the deadliest people unarmed in existence. There are even some muay thay champions that being more dedicated to the training are too another level compared to the best of mixed martial arts.
His Pak Mei style is based on the Foshan Pak Mei, a bit different lineage from Deng Zhou Tak version. I also do Pak Mei from Deng Zhou Tak lineage
Master LWS at least according to him and Benjamin's videos is the son of the guy that started Foshan Pak Mei. Meaning his dad and all those others who went elsewhere were the first generation or near first generation student of Pak Mei.

Wow what a great video! I'm sure Sifu (the game) lacks artistry compared to actual pak mei, but as a player this game feels truly meditative and..dance-like?..when you get into a groove. Feels so peaceful yet bad ass at the same time. Amazing game, can't wait for more updates :)
Awesome analysis Sifu! As a Bak Mei practitioner, I always have something to learn.
This is WONDERFUL. As a Hung Kuen practitioner myself, I just wish that Lau Kar Leung Sifu had the opportunity to witness a similar product made for our style. As a Gamer, there are few titles that accurately represent Kung Fu styles and it's incredibly frustrating (as much as I otherwise enjoy the games). Virtua Fighter is the only series that has faithful-ish depictions and even then they often fuse styles to appear more spectacular.
How wonderful this teacher is to explain these things.

Better martial arts story than in any movie ever! I can tell sifu Lao Wei San and Sifu Benjamin are great people, and it's amazing to see how their kung fu influenced people and game developers. Also, Sifu Lao seems to be remininscing how he used to kick ass with Pak Mei back in the day while watching this video :D

From my understanding, Pak Mei is a form that focuses on close range & quick strikes similar to Wing Chun. It doesn't have a lot of variations in kicks but if utilized correctly, it can be very effective nonetheless.
Ive watched video several times and i still cant track this mans movements 3:23 what does it feel like to get hit by one of those yin palms? As his heir im sure youve caught one of those palms by accidents 😅

From what I've researched, Pak Mei and Wing Chun are counters to one another, since Ng Mui was developing a more passive martial art that directly contrasts Pak Mei's aggressive style. Even the Wing Chun wooden dummy represent a Pak Mei practicioner's stance!

Sifu Lao Wei San shows complete open-mindedness and understands that games are quite literally that, stimulation. And also the warnings that you maybe can bet 10 in a game, but definitely not IRL.

The master is as skinny as a rake. But his power is SCARILY good... even when seated. He is DEFINITELY the real deal!
An interesting observation is that both he and I live in the same city. I've been living here for about three years, and during this time, I've gained approximately 20 kilograms in weight. Interestingly, other colleagues from out of town around me have also experienced various degrees of weight gain, while locals tend to be very slim. We all eat the same food, but it seems that people from out of town are generally getting heavier, while locals tend to maintain a slender physique.
People here are easily impressed
