The idea that Van Dijk is no longer a strong defender post-injury is genuinely ridiculous. He lost pace, that cannot be denied, but after he recovered, he remained one of the best in the world. Are we forgetting Liverpool went unbeaten in the league from January to July last year???? Got to a champions league final??? As for this season, his poor form has been from both a lack of confidence and pure exhaustion; from the start of the 2021/2022 season to the World Cup, he had played the most minutes of ANY player at the World Cup (7,597 mins, next highest was Joao Cancelo at 7,347 mins). He had a shortened break before pre-season with Liverpool still in champions league and remained a permanent starter from there on out. He’s currently far from his best, or the best in the world, but it’s far from gone.
he didn't lose pace. have seen every game since he came back from injury. for the first few months he didn't trust his vertical jump (which cost a goal away to brentford last season) but he's as quick as before. until his hamstring injury he had played the most outfield minutes in europe since the start of 21/22. any seeming reduced mobility is fatigue, hence the hamstring tweak
@@anthonyseglo25 it wasnt vvd who messed up the offside trap. literally any defender can get done by a player knocking it to the byline and putting a ball across. it works at any level of the game lol
Sharky is wrong "Salah has only started doing these things at 26". Also when Salah was 22 he had 20 goal contributions at a bang average fiorentina, after that loan spell came back to Chelsea. Jose made him cry, made him go on loan to roma again at 23. At 23 15 goals 11 assists. While tearing up players. Saka has been in a team built around him, for him to nurture his talent. He will be good, not Salah good. Salah was thrown in the deep end on loan with a bottom tier serie a team yet was top 5 in every stat in that league. Age don't matter, Salah barely had experience compared to saka at 21. Saka 5 seasons now at 21. Salah at 21 was in the process of his first full season.
The common thing is all these defenders had world class cb partners…Gary cahill literally had john terry with him, Rio had vidic etc, but if I were to suggest Lovren Matip or gomez were world class, people would instantly disagree, throw in trent who apparently cant defend and it makes van dijks argument even stronger
@@siphobanda1707 That would be right if van dijk had less block, tackles and interceptions that Matip Lovren and Gomez. Ngl Ricardo Carvalho is the most underrated CB in prem history bc before Porto, my man wasn't getting recognition like that, Jose gave him a chance, won Porto the Champions League and even performed better than John Terry in his best season, then Mourinho went Chelsea, and one of the first names he signed was Carvalho bc he had everything Terry lacked; intelligence, rational thinking and dat, then Chelsea wins 2 premier leagues in a row, and a few years later Mourinho went to Real Madrid and brought Carvalho with him, and they end up winning a La Liga title AND was world-class for a decade, I can't believe guys just forget that he exists...
You can be salty and say Van Dijk fell off, but saying PRIME VVD wasn’t as good as Rio, Terry etc is blasphemy. Van Dijk won UEFA’s (The best) in 2019, won PFA player of the season, and runner up for the ballon Dor (with a legitimate claim that he should of won). Have some shame..

Liverpools 7-0 win is definitely more impressive than that United Carabao win. Liverpool literally gave United their worst result in PL history. It will not be forgotten. van dijk not diving into tackles is arguably a good thing as most the time he forces them to make a mistake, diving in gives them a chance to get past u whereas if u stand off and give them nowhere to go they can’t do anything
@@hnbastro konate and matip are normally the ones that get stuck in, van dijk barely does anything as most teams plays a solo striker and this striker chooses to stand on the other centre back over van dijk, this means almost every duel happens with the other centre back. Even here in the Netherlands we know VVD is overrated. Its not just his lack of tracking back, its also the fact that he waits 10 years till the attacker enters the box and his attitude overall. Here in the Netherlands even the likes of Sneijder criticize him for his attitude.

I agree with everything Leban said about VVD even with the Cahill shout. Cahill was a better tackler and always put his body on the line. It was VVD’s physicality which put him a level above the average.
Part of being world class is consistency. Terry, Ramos, Maldini and Ferdinand shined for almost 10 years, Van Dijk peak lasted for 3 years max. Facts 💯
A peak lasting 3 years isn’t a bad thing, non of those defenders were at their PEAK for 10 years, Van Dijk was at Southampton hence why he got the move to Liverpool and interest from city and he’s been an elite defender ever since
Liban is chatting absolutely rubbish. "Defenders don't run at him" we have one of the highest defensive lines in the league. Cahil had terry who was worldclass, terry had Carvalho, Rio had Vidic, most of those except Cahil were worldclass, Virgil has had Lovren, Matip, gomez or Phillips, none of these are world-classes and virgil has made them all look good. Virgil also has trent in his backline who can't "defend" ( I hate this take), all of this just makes a stronger case for Virgil. Obviously he has not been the same this season after the injury, but he was still very good. He has played so many games, probably one of the players that's played the most in the world before the WC, that's fatigue not whatever United had prior to the game.
Ronaldo is the best because he won 3 PL titles in a row, salah can have all the goals in the world but if they don’t amount to anything it doesn’t mean shit. And you can’t say he was just a better player because Ronaldo went to Real and dominated Europe for the next 10 years.
Unpopular opinion but scholes was overrated, he played for a team full of world class players but still only managed to get 55 assists in 499 games in PL, whereas pogba played for a team full of average players and had 38 assists in 157 games but was still criticised for his lack of G/A in PL
VVD slander is just forced. He tackles and outsmarts attackers. Son & sissoko is the best example. Hardly every beaten in the air and beaten past as a player. Ben mee and Lewis dunk slide all over the floor and block shots doesn’t make them the best defenders. The best CB now provide attacking support one time long balls across the pitch to switch play.
Facts but agendas have to run, that's why no one should take Liban seriously he is just hating.
he didn't lose pace. have seen every game since he came back from injury. for the first few months he didn't trust his vertical jump (which cost a goal away to brentford last season) but he's as quick as before. until his hamstring injury he had played the most outfield minutes in europe since the start of 21/22. any seeming reduced mobility is fatigue, hence the hamstring tweak
