    Carrie,
    You never cease to AMAZE me!!! I know how long it takes to do filming and video editing... How do manage taking care of Little Pablo, household tasks and working your Braille Literacy Course from Hadley create wonderful informative videos? Also, CONGRATULATIONS on 1000 subscribers!!! You only started the #LiveAccessible Channel in late 2018!! I am so excited for you and Pablo! I was thinking about starting another RUclips channel for blind and VIP, but there are so many fantastic channels out there in RUclips World" for us. Besides, I am not sure if I could add anything to what is already out there.
    School begins in two weeks for the students. I have been working on school related tasks most of the summer. My brain is going in many directions, because I have so much to prepare.

      Hi sister Margaret Mary! Have you been getting my emails? I sent you the Hadley realtor C1 course audio files using we transfer. I'm not sure if you received the email because it said that you did not download the files yet.
      yes, it can be pretty tricky to balance it all and I'm not so sure that I'm doing a very good job, but I am doing my best! Hahaha! I wish you all the best and God bless! ☺️ ❤️

    Thanks for this overview. However, I'm more interested in a phone for my elderly, blind father that simply allows him to make and receive phone calls using voice commands. No text, no camera, no appys, etc. He cannot manipulate small touch buttons or see a screen. what can you recommend?

      I am in the same position - looking for a phone for my 93-year old mother who is nearly blind and only wants to make/receive phone calls using voice commands. Have you had any success finding one?

    • @davidluttenberger7939

      @@flynlass Hey Leslie. I ended up getting my dad an iphone 6S. There is a feature that allows you to set the phone to "auto-answer." I set it up so it rings for 10 seconds -- which allows my dad to find it. Then it answers automatically without having to tap or swipe. I also set the phone so that it is always on speaker. Once the phone call is over, once the other person hangs up, my dad's phone automatically hangs up as well. The down side to this is that if he is not available to take a call, the phone will still answer. We just let his friends and family know that if it sounds like no one is there when the phone picks up, it's probably because he is napping or in the shower. The other thing I did was buy a thick black protective shell for the phone. Then I took an X-acto knife and cut out the pads that would cover the on/off button on the phone, as well as the pads that cover the volume up/down buttons and the mute/vibrate buttons on the sides of the phone. This way there is a 99.99% chance than he won't accidentally turn the phone on/off or turn the volume off. Both these hacks have worked very well.

      Hi there! Thank you for your comment! Sorry for my late replies! There aren't any phones on the market that i know of that only does voice dialing. I wish they had one! That would be awesome. However, an iphone is a great choice because you can set it to auto answer, but you can also have them use siri to control the phone. I know it can seem like a lot, even if they don't use the screen, it is a good option. They do have iphones that are priced much lower. My husband was an accessibility trainer and he trained many who are 90 and above with iphones. There's voiceover, a screen reader for those who can handle it, but even with just siri, it could work. Otherwise, there is also the blindshell, lumia, and jitterbug. I wish you all the best and hope that it works out with your family members!

    Though I have an iPhone, I give the edge to the BlindShell. It appears to be closer to what’s out there now. 3G network would be frustrating.

    Both of them is a great phone. But I love the blindshell's feature specially that it has an access on the internet. Reminds me of my old symbian phone which has a screen reader on it. The only thing that I have trouble on my keypad phone is that the browser is not supported on many sites and you have to download and keep the installer of the screen reader. Thank-you for this great video ma'am, wishing you and your family a great day ahead.

    My husband recently got the Lucia and we are having some difficulties. He is 75 and not at all tech saavy. There are many features we like, and some that are bothersome. Customer services has been very good, but they are only open business hours (until 7pm EST) during the week. The keypad is very frustration as the contrast is not good and the letters are not backlit. The voice of the Lucia itself is nice and loud, but the voice you call is not and the speaker phone button has the same delay and can only be activated after the call connects, so if he calls someone he has to say wait a minute while he gets the speaker phone on and the button has to be held down for about 2 seconds and then there is a delay. Even with the speaker phone and the sound boost button he find the voice not very loud on the other end.

      Hi there! Thank you for your comment! Sorry for my late reply! I'm so sorry to hear about that bad experience. As you can see from the demonstration I did, the Lumia does have a long delay when controlling it. That is unfortunate and maybe they can do an update. This is a software issue. I personally enjoyed the Blindshell better of the two, but I do know some who like the Lumia. I hope that it has worked out for your husband! Best wishes.

    While I think It's amazing how far these devices have come, from the alto and odin mobile years ago to now, I'm still questioning the price. There is nothing expensive inside these phones, and no reason for the markups. Considering an iPhone SE, a much more capable device, can be purchased for around $100 I really can't justify the pricing on either of these devices.

    • @LiveAccessible
      @LiveAccessible  5 лет назад +3

      hi there! Thank you for watching! I agree that a lot of assistive technology can be expensive, but a lot of it is just supply and demand. A $100 iPhone SE would probably be used, and $350 would be the blind shell new. It really is dependent on the customer though. If they are the type of person who is going to use an iPhone, they probably will have no interest in this device. It is not a smartphone and is very simple to use so it's Target is those who just want something simple as opposed to a smartphone. Ultimately, it comes down to the choice of the consumer. ☺️

      @aaronhewitt1315 5 лет назад +2

      Absolutely! There are all different types of people with different skills. And there are some people that just don't want to have a smartphone even if they can. • @craigslater6508
      @craigslater6508 Год назад

      I agree that these phones are expensive, but i think the blindshell is worth the price as it is becoming more and more like a smartphone all the time and the hardware has recently been updated. I personally prefer my iPhone, but I recognise that there are people for whom the blind shell will be as much of a helpful device as our mainstream phones are for those of us who prefer to use them.

      @@LiveAccessible he was born and raised in Europe Greece
      He's never been a tech savvy kind of guy. He is as old schools against his grump as a kid on farm. He played pro soccer and came to this country after retiring his soccer career.
      He has one good eye and his other eye is a glass eye. he has more issues than he would like to admit.
      a smartphone would just be way too flashy and he would probably break it in the day. The shell seems like a durable phone typically like the ones we usually buy them already. I usually get them a flip phone or a tactile phone with a small screen. With a hard plastic case.
      I think with the shell he would learn a lot more easier than if I had given him an Android or iOS.
      He just likes simple and the show shows that simple can be acquired. There's a lot of things on that phone I know he could utilize if he just learned how to use it. And I don't see that phone breaking as easy as in basic Android.

    My daughter is newly legally blind. She has been low vision all her life. She is 20 and is a college student. We are trapped. A multitude of systems not sure what to do. We are trying to figure out which software works best in making print accessible. We recognize everyone is different but locating software that reads well and does speech to text well would be amazing. Can anyone help? It would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks guys

      Hi there! Thanks for your comment. I'm sorry that my reply is very late! The blindshell does have voice dialing and is pretty good at it. I believe that it uses the google voice to text recognition. I hope that helps!

      Unfortunately no. It does not. Delicia phone is pretty limited and I think it's focus is really to be very easy to use without anyof the bells and whistles we are accustomed to on our smartphones

    Is there any mobile like Nokia E5 for blind people?

      Hi there! Thank you for your comment! Sorry for my late reply! what is the Nokia E5? Is it the one that has a keyboard? I have heard of one that samsung made, but most of them are phasing out now and going over to touch screen. There was the blackbetty passport which was a smartphone with a keyboard on it, but I'm not too sure about it. Another alternative is to get a bluetooth keyboard. There are ones that are very small and you can keep it in your pocket. I hope that helps! Sorry again for the late reply!

    I couldn’t watch your lifestream the other day I got a notification but when I tapped on it it said the video is not available I had Internet but it just didn’t play😞😢😭

    • @LiveAccessible
      @LiveAccessible  5 лет назад +2

      Hi there! I'm so sorry to hear that! It could happen that we already finished the live stream and it was processing. Once the live stream is done, it takes a few minutes or even an hour before it is available for replay! But you can always watch it after. It was either that or you may have gotten there too early. 😀 But there's always next time!

      Hey! I really am not sure why it's not working. ☹️ Maybe if you try again? Is it still not working? Do you think that it could have anything to do with the new article 13? I don't know why since I didn't do anything related to any copyrights, but I don't know! I'm sorry!

    Wanted a blind shell ll phone and saved money for moths to purchase it. Used it for a month and a few weeks, HATED IT! You need to push buttons for just about every function and I don't mean one OR TWO but many! IT IS LIKE BEING STUCK ON ONE OF THOSE ANNOYING PHONE TREES FOR ANYTHING YOU WANT TO DO. NOT USER FRIENDLY AT ALL. WOULD NOT RECOMEND IT TO ANYONE !!!!!

    I'm sorry, but what's the point of a phone specifically designed for blind people? Modern day smartphones already have technologies built-in to help blind and visually impaired people, and all you literally have to do is turn the accessibility feature on. What would make a person put down their accessible iPhone with voiceover turned on or their android with talk back turned on and use this? This phone makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Sorry not sorry.

    • @LiveAccessible
      @LiveAccessible  2 месяца назад

      For most people who are blind or visually impaired, a smartphone is what they want. Some people prefer buttons and a more simple interface. This is especially true for the elder population or those with other disabilities and other challenges like motor where it's More difficult to physically perform gestures. I understand where you're coming from, but smartphones aren't for everyone.

    • @Majestee.04
      @Majestee.04 2 месяца назад

      @@LiveAccessible OK. Fair enough, but are we going to deny the fact that they're already elderly people that utilize smart phones. Again, the iPhone has accessibility features built-in. People who have motor issues have accessibility features built-in to help them and majority of those features are cross integrated meaning that one accessibility feature works with the other. This means that the blind shell would only work for a very small percent of people, if those people even exist. I'm sorry, I'm just really having trouble understanding the point of this phone. I think it's cool that a company thought about this, but with so many other solutions available, it really makes it pointless.

    • @LiveAccessible
      @LiveAccessible  2 месяца назад

      You're absolutely right. This is only serving a small percentage of people in the blind and visually impaired community. However, the need for simplicity and tactile physical buttons is definitely present. While there are many elderly people who have success with a smartphone, it's definitely not a solution for many or all. It can be frustrating for some to learn and often there is much resistance.
      There are built in accessibility features, but again, that adds complexity and someone has to set it up and teach how to use these features and there are hiccups as there are some conflicts in different accessibility features.
      For work efficiency, a physical keyboard is a must for me. While i can use a touchscreen keyboard, it is slower, more difficult, and i make many more errors. That can be translated to other people and their situation and needs.
      Needs and preferences differ and i don't see that as difficult to empathize with. At the end of the day, we are all free to choose the devices that best work for us. Some find it useful and some don't. It harms no one.
