I feel like Gunwook didn't fully showcase his skills here, he's a really good dancer obviously and we did see that here, but because the dance was so hard he didn't really show his vocals or rap, which are VERY VERY good. He's honestly one of the most talented idols that I know, and his confidence has a reason (he's not arrogant, he's actually very nice and such a cutie, it made me so sad how everyone was hating on him on the first few episodes)
Zhang hao is chinese from Fujian, China. his mandarin might sound like taiwanese mandarin bcuz fujians is close to taiwan so they might sound kinda the same, esp the manners are the same ricky is from shanghai, lived in LA for some years
It’s because most of the people from Taiwan migrated from Fujian China. The Taiwanese accent comes from Fujian China, known as a Southern Chinese accent. Zhang Hao speaks with a Southern Chinese accent not a Taiwanese accent. Ricky is from Shanghai and that’s also in Southern China, and he speaks with a southern Chinese accent also, and it varies little by little across the cities! Some places in China have completely different languages that are also Chinese languages!
Here is how I perceived Pentagon's story. it so sad actually: they were pretty successful with their single "Shine" back when it released in 2018, a huge hit. So popular Hui (or Hoe Taek), EDawn (a member of pentagon) and Hyuna (a very very very famous female soloist back then, one of the it-girls) formed a trio and released a few songs together and even appeared in the second season of Boys Planet (back then it was called Produce 101) and gave them a song called "NEVER". he also wrote the debut song ("Energetic") of the group formed through Produce 101 (Wanna One). Fun fact: Minghyun, the MC of this season was a contestant and debuted in Wanna One and he even performed "NEVER" the song Hui gave them, so yeah that's freaking awkward for Hui. but right after their breakthrough one of their popular members (EDawn) got into a huge dating scandal with Hyuna. they've basically been dating for several years and you know how Koreans are with stupid dating "scandals". it HAD to happened during their peak popularity... eventually both of them got kicked out of CUBE and pentagons reputation was forever stained. honestly I'm still frustrated until this day, because pentagon is seriously an amazing group and every member is insanely talented (I'm not even kidding, just listen to Hui singing and there are a few members that can do that in Pentagon) and they gave their ALL (you can watch Kingdom season 1 were they competed as well). after that scandal they still released lots of songs, but none of them got the same success as "Shine" and slowly their popularity declined. eventually most of the members enlisted and their company doesn't really support them, no money, no opportunities, no promotions. they have to write all of their own songs (which they have been doing anyways), but like Hui said, no one wants to collaborate with them anymore (I guessing that includes producer and creative directors etc.) and that is the reason why he attended Boys Planet. to get recognition and maybe reignite Pentagon's popularity (in almost every season of this show has been someone like Hui, but he is definitely the most extreme example). I have to give my biggest respect to Hui, because it is not easy to come to a survival show with literal KIDS in his eyes probably. He is willing to let down his pride (which is well deserved btw, bc all trainees and idols do respect him, since he has proven his skill several times). He could just make a living out of songwriting, but I think he really doesn't want to give up on Pentagon. So yeah. Please go and listen to some of their songs! They are really good! Thank you for reading my rant
You saying that about Gunwook is unfortunate haha. Gunwook has talked about that where he just wanted to be confident but people took it as arrogant and berated him. Luckily Mnet was unable to evil edit him (unlike some other unfortunate trainees smh) and other trainees actively tried to show Gunwook’s true personality, so the hate never escalated. I just found the whole situation ironic because Gunwook was like the leader of the anti bullying group at his school, and here he was getting bullied by all these netizens smh
The fact that Jongwoo's "because our roots are different" was taken so far out of context (the contestants have talked about it before) is such a prime example of survival shows' evil editing. It makes it funny though that Jongwoo basically adopted a whole bunch of the G group trainees 😂
pentagon had a really big hit in korea with their song shine, but their popularity slowly fell off after then 😭 they weren't unsuccessful, they were just mildly popular and never got to become one of the big boy groups of their generation
Zhang Hao is from Fuzhou (capital of Fujian, China) and Ricky is from Shanghai but lived in LA for a bit. Fun fact: I went to the same middle school as him (3 years later though lol). Zhanghao did really well on a chinese national exam and was one of the top ranked out of 41 million in his entire province
Thank you for watching Boys Planet! By the way a lot of the K and G rivalry is scripted and exaggerated. As an example, the Korean and Global groups that are from YueHua (the same company) are vERY VERY close friends. And thats the case for many others too. So that's important to note that Mnet tries to villainize certain trainees for more attention, in editing, what they're told to say, and how the show is arranged too
58:02 Even in this you're falling prey to the editing 😭 I swear Mnet will literally take clips from seperate points in the show and make it seem like theyre giving a stink eye. But sometimes they're just looking back for something else and it's edited that way 😭😭 I get why you're reacting that way but believe me.. they've had editing errors that proved it (like someone is performing on stage and the next shot is that same person in the audience. It's horrendous) LMDAOOAOA
yuehua is rly good at getting trainees to debut in survival shows. it's the biggest idol company in china and their net worth equals jyp and yg combined
Hanbin is such an amazing performer for sure and beautiful beautiful is also the performance that make me fall in love with him. Hanbin didn't feel confident in his singing because he knows nothing about singing before and he's only a trainee for 1 year 8 months, it's like he can sing but he's not that good (in his standard)
Yeah the vote is not totally fair, i totally agree. But, looking back at the other seasons et previous/other similar programs, it's a loooot fairer. So, old kpop fan, myself included, were kinda happy about it... 😅 Back in 2017, I think international fan was just counting for 20% of the result 😬 and for a lot of other shows, international fan cannot even vote... (even if the goal of the show is to do an "internation / global super group"...)
21:15 fyi pentagon is one of the popular kpop group in gen 3. when "Shine" was released at that time, it was really famous and made pentagon very popular.. i can't explain how their popularity declined.. please find out for yourself 🤧🤧
I understand what you say about them having an advantage, but the thing is that zb1's debut broke records from over 20 years of kpop history and they broke other records that most other 3/4 generations didn't break.
28:35 hearing you say Gunwook is arrogant hurt my SOUL, my boy is the cutest teddy bear ever, he's just big and scary looking😭
He doesn’t even look scary😢 istg I hate people that judge people on appearances like that. He’s the sweetest
I don’t see the scary either. I also knew him from Wild Idol before though, so 🤷🏽♀️
Well that's my first impression of gunwook ! But after that I realized that he is just a baby he's my bias now 😹
@@itsunasasmr fr
as soon as jay opened his mouth and started singing i knew he would be my favorite, his voice is amazing and on top of that he is such a great person
saw him perform and met him at a busking session bdu did here in seoul and his voice live is INSANE, he’s also the absolute sweetest

Zhang Hao is AMAZING since day 1.

There's so many evil editing too, don't fall for that.
Thanks for reacting to the full chapter. Jiwoong was always my pick in the show. Greetings from Argentina
Zhang Hao is from fujian, china 😂 and Ricky is from shanghai but he lives in la
