No Below is one of my favorite songs on their album. This is a great performance.
No below is my favorite song by them. I heard it in life is strange before the storm.
This is the love child of Helium, Pavement, and Polvo, and my god, it is beautiful.

glad you like them. i fell in love when they opened for the Breeders.(who i love) but Sade stole the show. i was so into listening to the Speedy CD for the ride home after the show.

same! he's ridiculously solid. after watching probably every performance they currently have on youtube, my conclusion is that (while the whole band is obviously solid musicians) he is doing an excellent job at holding all of it together

Does anyone here feel like this KEXP show is a seance to bring back the ghost of Pavement?
The Pavement sound was what attracted me to the band. They do a hell of a job aping Pavement, too. She has that disinterested vocalist thing Malkmus does down PERFECTLY. How she sometimes sings and sometimes flattens her notes like she doesn't give a damn. Plus her lyrics have that hyper-literate/maybe doesn't mean anything Malkmus feel.
And how the whole band has a general lackadaisical style of the 90s lo-fi bands. Love it.
Matt Bates they do it better than pavement tho. and i was huge into pavement. i just love speedy ortiz. big time. hexxy is the fu 'n bomb.

What's up with the dislikes? This is by far the most exciting "new" band I've seen on KEXP this year, and that's really something.

For some reason this band reminds me of The Dismemberment Plan but the song "No Below" sounds like an old Elliott Smith take from Heatmiser...

After working at 4 record stores throughout the 90's and getting to listen to 100's of albums by 100's of artists, I can honestly affirm these guys are wicked sick. More importantly, listening to their songs several times and different versions, these are solid songs that I can't say I get sick of it. I get that they sound very 90's and maybe that's what I'm digging here. Sadie is a bit of a princess (as I found seeing Sad13) and they're allegiance to Pavement is just misplaced but she works hard lyrically and blends well with the fellas who crank all the estrogen out of the whole mess. That's my feel on them. Long live the SO

I tied my guitar on a rope to the back of my car and let it drag a few blocks on the pavement now it looks as kewl as yours. You guys are prob so sick of hearing about Pavement.

EmotionalBoyz2003 agreed. i've been trying to learn their tunes. there's obviously the occasional power chord thrown in, but some of the other fingerings are hard to make out even when watching their hands in these videos. great band, confusing the brain = growth
EmotionalBoyz2003 Out of key, not tune. Harmonic progressions = in key, dissonant = out of key.
SonicSeraphim First of they're not playing out of key and if I were to guess I would say they they're playing ethier jazz chords or they're playing in a different tuning with some octaves, and harmonics thrown in.
Max Mitchelson There aren't enough modes and octaves to justify how bad they sound. :(
reading some of the negative comments....really funny. i was the biggest Pavement fan. have all their albums.......they cant touch Speedy Ortiz. just my opinion.
also, when Pavement first started they couldnt really play their instruments....SPeedy Ortiz are awesome musicians. so take that.

So Speedy Ortiz is alive and Broadcast is dead - thanks a lot world. Please consider instrumentals this girl cant find an attractive melody in 40 minutes or years. The guys sound good like real musicians.
