The lure ended up at 26 grams and it was only 3 grams away from being a sinking lure, so I'm glad I didn't add weight. Just FYI, adding weight to a cylindrical lure body won't really help with stability. The erratic action of the lure was mostly due to the cupped joint that caused heavy turbulent flow. The turbulent water pushed the tail section around and that, in turn, pushed the front around. These kinds of challenges are tough especially if you don't resort to building a super simple lure (like I should have). Marlin Baits does a great job at it, and he keeps it entertaining. Sorry for the bad audio I'll be replacing the wireless mic system soon. The old one has gotten very sensitive to even slightly week batteries.
Love the look of the lure. I am fond of the old style lures. Marling Baits would be proud of your challenge and success of the build. As always great video Franco.
Merry Christmas to you and your family. I was injured while fishing back in October and have been learning to walk again over the past month. Hopefully I will be ok for the summer. Your Videos have been an inspiration and I have now started making my own lures. The funny thing is, is that I am a course fisherman and have never fished with a lure in my life. Thank you for opening my eyes to something new. John
I like that you attempted the one day challenge! The vintage look to the lure was a nice touch! Hopefully you did some bonus fishing and ended up catching one with it! Always look forward to Fridays with Franco!
Really great job pushing yourself. I always appreciate your engineering approach but it is good to try new things. Being uncomfortable is the only way we grow. Would love to see more of these builds from you. Thanks.
An excellent effort and equally excellent result. I would fish with that lure... its that good... Thanks for the great video content and sharing your expertise.. With respect.. Joe
I love the old school look. I love old school lures anyway (sail shark). My son just moved to Orlando today to start Marine mechanical institute. When he graduated he want to do something where he could fish and duck hunt so good bye Louisiana hello Florida.
Good you tried the one day challenge Franco! I'd be no good for that kinda focus - I'm to easily distracted with "what if this" or " what about that" LOL! Like the lure and action. Think it is erratic because, without lead the front is not as stable as usual and the tail is wagging the dog. Out of curiosity, you might want to try clamping a split-shot to the front treble to see how the action responds. Cheers!
If I had a UV resin curing setup, a 1 DAAAAY WOULD BE COMPLETELY POSSIBLE lol love how you put the engineering aspect into lures, really grabs more of my attention
The lure looked fantastic! No big deal on the fail. 96 (35.5C)degrees water! I will definitely give this one a try come winter. I may make the tail portion a tad smaller, thinking it may wobble more. Also a more round bib to slightly reduce the roll. It will be cool to experiment. Thanks again for the inspiration. Marling Baits is one You Tuber my wife will watch with me. I'll be interested to see if Engineered Angler will catch her, too.
Great video as always. I really liked the action you got from that lure, makes me want to make one, looks catchy. On an unrelated note, the mic might be asking for a new one, as another commenter said, there is a high pitch noise in a lot of this video, you should really check what's causing it. It was present in a few of your other videos too. Keep up the great work, I'm looking forward to next fridays upload.
@@EngineeredAngler You might be able to see it using a spectrum analyzer it will look like a tall narrow peak in the high frequencies. you could then EQ the noise out using a low-pass filter, it's all pretty basic audio processing that might already be doable in whatever video editing software you're using, but it might not take it out entirely, better to find and eliminate it's source. it's not in every shot though, starts from 2:54,lowers a little bit in pitch at 3:30, and stops at 4:41 right at the shot were we see both freshly cut halves, could be some kind of electrical interference.
A nice experiment on the ball shaped jointed hinge. I guess if the lure was a bit shorter may be 3.5” or so and a rattle , it could have had some bites ?
Love the old school lure design. Looks like a old pike lure I have that was given to me when I was a kid. Was that an air chuck you wee using to make the ball joint?
Does the eyes of the joint screws stand one upright and the other orthogonal to it ? If they stand more or less diagonally in relation to the lure and lip, this may be the reason for the "art action".
Prior to clear coat, how do you clean all the “fuzzies” off of the bait? I always struggle with getting the surface completely clean of dust and what not
I usually don't have an issue with dust. I seal the paint with a mid-coat of Minwax Polyacrylic, dry it and clear coat. But I suppose I would use some compressed air if I say some dust...
Amen love the video but I hate but Hey do you think you could possibly make a lure you make a lure video duplicating like the size 20X rap Or just the X rap in general those things have gotten so expensive I'd like to see a lure made out of cheap materials That could duplicate its performance
Both great lure building channels. Very different channels. One wins hands downs for aesthetics. One wins hands down for build quality. Please don't try to compete. Just my two cents worth...
I'm not going to make it on the one day challenge because the price of UV resin has gone through the roof here in Indonesia so I'm back to using two part epoxy. Who am I kidding, catching the fish after the build is the real obstacle to success.
He builds like an artist and lots of his lures work pretty well. Building a lure, from concept to finish to fishing is a tough thing to do well. Some part of the process is inevitably a compromise.
@@EngineeredAngler Just watching him, he has tons of bad practices. So many better ways to do things, but he still does them the same wrong way. He is full of himself, and I know from experience a couple years ago.
WWWWHONE DAY! Super pleasing paint job on that one. Awesome to view, instead of do, a one day build. Great vid!
Stop watching videos.. duuuuude you've got a clown trigger fish lure to make 🤣
Thanks man....and thanks for the inspiration of the "one-day"
Like such as!!
My two favorite lure makers. The Engineered Angler and Marlin Baits. Never miss an episode.
Thanks you.
Me too
You and Marling are my favorite RUclips lure makers. This was awesome. Keep up the great work.
ONEEEEEEEEEEE DAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
you started like an hour earlier than Nate would have

What a fun episode my friend!

Thank you ! Found this video to be Very Very Good. Learned a lot .
Keep up the good work ,
Great job, cool action
Classic! Excellent work as always.
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome looking lure, and paint scheme on too.
Glad you like it

Thank you so much....and yes bonus fishing coming up.
I love that lure it look great. I would like to see more old school lures like the that.

That thing has beautiful action
Nice lure! I like the action. Very reminiscent of old school baits. Great job per usual!
Glad you enjoyed it

Haha let’s hear it. “One dayyy”
Nice build, keep them coming!
Thanks, will do!
Nice work
Awesome video! Have to love Marling's One Day builds. You always do a great job man 👏 👏 👏
Thanks a bunch!
Thanks for sharing your skills. The lure turned out great.
Thanks 👍
The action is very similar to older style lures that killed the predators! Very impressive build, and a great video. Thanks for your work.

Nice lure I actually liked the action 👍

Great video

Love how the channel is progressing! 💯 great job brother
Appreciate it!!

Oh thank goodness, I thought my tinnitus came back!
I have tinnitus so I don't always pick up on the noise.

There is a High frequency noise throughout a lot of this video.
Be fun to see a 1v1 in the same workshop.
Your paint job is very close to the old Creek Chub Pikie Minnows.
Love the old school lure design. Looks like a old pike lure I have that was given to me when I was a kid. Was that an air chuck you wee using to make the ball joint?
Yes...I had to resort to air tools to speed things up.
good job¡
Does the eyes of the joint screws stand one upright and the other orthogonal to it ? If they stand more or less diagonally in relation to the lure and lip, this may be the reason for the "art action".
That is a good thought...I'm pretty sure the eyes are perpendicular to each other.
I discovered that there is a nice airbrush paint made right there in Florida the brand name is Chromaair it costs just about 8$ for a 2oz bottle
I'll have to look into it...thanks for the tip.
Amazing!!
Did you also make the instruments and play/write the music in one day?
No...I'm not much of a musician.
So how heavy did the lure end up being?
26 grams
Amen love the video but I hate but Hey do you think you could possibly make a lure you make a lure video duplicating like the size 20X rap Or just the X rap in general those things have gotten so expensive I'd like to see a lure made out of cheap materials That could duplicate its performance
There's nothing very special about the x-rap. It's a basic stick crankbait. If you're tired of Rapala prices...I would look for a knock-off. Cheers
have you ever thought of selling your sketches with dimensions for us newbies to be able to try and replicate?
Yes...I plan to start putting together some lure plans and make them available for a small fee...some time soon I hope.
Both great lure building channels.
Very different channels.
One wins hands downs for aesthetics.

We have different approaches but there's no question of his talent and quality of lure builds.
I'm not going to make it on the one day challenge because the price of UV resin has gone through the roof here in Indonesia so I'm back to using two part epoxy.
Who am I kidding, catching the fish after the build is the real obstacle to success.
Make a deep diver like that
In shad color
Anyone else hear a very high pitch in the background noise? Mainly during the shop building parts.
Yes...sorry, I'm hoping it will not come back on the next one.
Most of his one day lures don't swim right. He is a good artist, but not a great lure builder.
