When I was a kid in the 1970's I used to go to Belmont Park, just before it closed down. It was pretty run down, but had the typical amusement park flat rides (i.e. Scrambler, Himalaya, Octopus, etc.), the Giant Dipper coaster, and a dark ride. The dark ride was a spook house aka ghost train. When it shut down the coaster was on the verge of being torn down, but luckily a group formed to save and restore it. Most of what now exists at Belmont Park is basically new, except for the coaster and The Plunge pool (although that has been totally renovated and looks nothing like it originally did).
My family and I were at California in April and we went to San Diego for 5 days staying at the Bahia not far from the park. An amazing holiday, love the west coast. Hope you’s are having a blast.
Hope you guys enjoyed San Diego!! I lived there for two years while I was in college but moved away a few months ago for work. I always used to go down to Mission Beach to study or enjoy the views and to Pacific Beach for the nightlife. I really miss it!!
Fantastic vlog, Shawn. This, to me, is what it's all about - a great location by the sea and a classic coaster. Sounds like the Giant Dipper could ride better, but it really does look the part with all those lights.
I actually visited that park 8 years ago when I was in San Diego for a business trip. Very nice boardwalk park! Just amazing views from the park. Nothing like a southern California sunset!
Great video Shawn and Charlotte from Belmont Park located in San Diego, California! Keep the good videos coming on the channel. Shawn and Charlotte from the trip from California. 😀😃👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I went to this park back in 2000. I didn’t ride the coaster. Not sure why. I remember the beach being VERY dirty. I wondered how would you guys would compare the coaster in Santa Cruz. I’m really enjoying your California vlogs. As a Cali citizen, it’s nice to know the state is showing you guys a good time. I thought about you guys last night. Seeing how you plan these trips, and talk about future parks during a vlog, one could plan to go to a park on the same day and probably run into you guys. That would be cool! Looking forward to the rest of your Cali vlogs!
I’m so happy you are both having such a great time here in California! You are hitting all the good spots for sure!! PS, the General Sherman Tree is the largest tree on earth and is a sequoia. I highly recommend checking it out on your next visit to California❤❤
So this coaster , and at Santa Cruz were built by the same people there used to be a third one on the beach in San Francisco at a place called Playland that is long gone
Wetzel's Pretzels!! Make sure you try them with cheese sauce next time you see one!! I had once when on the west coast and so good! Can't get here in Ohio (land locked) as far as I know. Looks like a cute park!
Hi Sean and Charlotte!! Love the US videos! So glad y'all are enjoying your visit! Please go to Pigeon Forge and try the new Monster Mountain rides!!! Love you guys keep on keeping on!!❤
It's so interesting how the California coast has two similar wooden coasters, both named Giant Dipper, both white with red tracking, both by the beach, and only 1 year apart in age. It's hard to remember which is which 😂
Love the park, never been but seems really cool. Wonder if they will do an event for the Giant dipper 100 birthday next year, that ice cream though looked 😋😋
There's also Sesame Place San Diego down in Chula Vista. It's a newer amusement park. It used to be a water💧park. 1st under the name Knott's Soak City, then changed to Aquatica. Glad you're enjoying your trip in San Diego
You're welcome. Thanks for having such an amazing channel. I've been on Giant Dipper at Belmont Park. Such a classic. Can't believe it's turning 100 next year. I did see that Sesame Place is only open on the weekends this time of year. Can't wait to see your vlogs from Magic Mountain & the Disneyland Resort. Love you guys.
Welcome back Shawn Actually, 9 years ago the wrist band price was the same with One difference, in the afternoon you could purchase one for half price, which was why you and the boys got one for $22. They don't offer that option now. I believe the VR attractions are gone as well, not sure though, it's been awhile since I've been down there. Should you visit us again in the future I must recommend "La Hinas" as a dinner spot. It's located a mile or so further up Mission Blvd with a deck right on the beach. It's at Pacific Beach and the coaster is Mission Beach. PB Is the real night spot, awesome beach vibe you and Charlotte would enjoy I believe.
@ThemeParkWorldwide pike and pier are just memories also Busch Gardens Van Nuys is just a brewery now used to be a park you can see it on RUclips, also beverly park was a amusement park where beverly center is now , had cheap look and pony rides went there as a kid Walt Disney decided to build Disneyland cos this place was so bad , you can find this place on RUclips also
Hi Shawn and Charlotte lve got more news did you know that Chessington world of adventure were think about get a new black rollercoaster 😊 because the park planning it just to let you know ❤
If you consider dollar inflation (average 2.96% per year) the inital cost of $150,000 for building the Giant Dipper in 1925 equivalates to just under $2.7 million in 2024 👍
Some history Belmont has coaster long beach had coaster and Santa Monica had a coaster. Pikes peak In long Beach pikes peak was old also and in little rascals playing hockey u can see on RUclips, I thought it was in coney island but I was wrong , at the end of it's a mad mad world you sre Santa Monica coaster at end of movie , they tore l down pier and ruins were in ocean for a long time till they built pacific park
You will get a reply most likely as he responds very quickly. I've lost 3 hamsters in the past and every death traumatised me, I understand how hard it is. ❤

I love the Giant Dipper ... its one of those coasters that is so much fun while your back is realigned/adjusted and cheaper than a chiropractor!
It’s a great ride. Just quite rough!
Hope you guys enjoyed San Diego!! I lived there for two years while I was in college but moved away a few months ago for work. I always used to go down to Mission Beach to study or enjoy the views and to Pacific Beach for the nightlife. I really miss it!!

I rode The Giant Dipper twice. Once in the back and then once in the front. That is a front row coaster. Good old Roller Coaster.
It’s a good fun ride!

Are you and Shaun old friends.
It’s a shame that they don’t do that offer now, as it’s very expensive for what’s on offer!
@@70AD-user45 I'm just a long time fan
Hello Shawn and Charlotte 👋
Is it bigger than the Big Dipper at Blackpool with its name being the Giant Dipper 2:27
As a kid in the 60s we stayed at the bajia hotel in mission bay across the street from the coaster. I was 7 they wouldn't let me go on
It seems like a great area!

Hi guys, what camera are you using for this and what editing software do you use? Still Sony Vegas?
It sure is, along with our DJI Osmo Pocket 3
Nice
Stay classy San Diego...
I think it recently had a retract, could you tell ?
It didn’t feel like it had, however it’s a very historic ride!
Imagine if we had a Time Machine and could bring someone who rode Giant Dipper in 1925 and put them on Steele Vengeance 😂😂
If only!
Wow another seaside fair
Great Boardwalk atmosphere!
Hi Shaun, looked like you had a nice time, are you coming back to pleasurewood hills?
We won’t be this year, but I’m sure we will in 2025!
What camera do you use just wondering
We use a DJI Osmo Pocket 3

Definitely worth the cost!
Apart from the Giant Dipper, what was your best
As we only rode the Giant Dipper, it has to be that 😉
👍👍
Big shout out to me and my hubby for our 20th anniversary! 24.09.24 xxx
Have a wonderful day!

Sorry to hear that it’s awful when you have to say goodbye to someone you love so much.
