Gladys Knight is one of the queens of soul. Dionne Warwick is a giant in Pop music with an R&B flavor. This song was recorded as a response to the AIDS crisis, which terrified people and the gov't was ignoring. This song was especially important for the gay and lesbian community. Lesbians, who had been a separate group politically and socially, had decided to do everything they could for the gay community devastated by AIDS. This was the first time that gays and lesbians worked together and that's what friends are for. The proceeds went to amfAR for AIDS research and prevention. It was #1 song for a month and won a Grammy. It was also part of an AIDS benefit concert featuring many more artists. The message in the song was to promote compassion and love. Burt Bachrach, who wrote many of Dionne Warwick's early hits in the 60s, wrote this song. The cast for this song was Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, and Gladys Knight. They reunited to perform at the 25th anniversary amfAR, American Foundation for AIDS Research, benefit in 2011. Thankfully, all of them are still alive. All of the musicians were also legends and Grammy winners in their own right.
1985 ... what a great year in music for those of us who grew up in the 70's and 80's! 1000% respect for these 4 living legends! Dionne Warwick was one of my favorite female artists from back in the day!
So very cool. I love all those people and I had not seen this before. I enjoyed enjoying it with you. And we could always love more Warwick. I think you recently reacted to Gladys Knight and the Pips.
I remember when this came out. What a great song and what a great quartet! Love all four of them but just want to say that I especially love Gladys! Powerhouse voice! And she has one of those smiles that just radiates warmth.
This is a special song for a special cause performed by some of the greatest singers of the era. What I love most about this is that each is allowed to soar in their solos yet never try to outdo another. They fully appreciate each other’s talents and through their collaboration it becomes an incredible performance
Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder, Sir. Elton John, Gladys Knight(performance order) Each of those artists is a Super S-Rank Musician on any Tier List. Absolute legends!
My sisters and I loved this song as kids. I was only 8 and we all would play like we were singers This is one that we did a lot because there's so many different artists. 😂
Dionne Warwick had the mixed brown and black hair. On the right side of Dionne was Gladys Knight (Neither One of us/Love Overboard/If I were your woman/ Midnight Train to Georgia) and on the end was Stevie Wonder. Elton John was on the left of Dionne. I'm actually kinda shocked that he didn't wear anything sparkly or colorful like he always does. The most beautiful thing is they're all still alive and Dionne Warwick (Whitney Houston's cousin) just got inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame (WAY overdue). The rest of them are already members.
Have you listened to Stevie Wonder's Pastime Paradise yet? You really gotta. Also it was sampled a lot (e.g. Gangster's Paradise). It's awesome. . The vocalist next to Stevie was Gladys Knight.
I tell ya, this is such a feel good song. It makes me really happy watching their outstanding performances and your always welcome reaction. Have a lovely Sunday! Rock on!
The late great songwriter and composer Burt Bacharach wrote many famous songs especially for Dionne Warwick. When he died in February this year, she issued a moving tribute to him, saying he was like family to her. You should react to some of their collaborations.
That Ms. Dionne Warwick always so amazing how she always seems to weave in and out of vocal registers and stylings without missing a blink or a strain!! Ms. Dionne was brilliant of selecting the 4 of them to all together to do this classic!! Couldn't get any better period!!❤❤
I love this then and even more today. We all can relate thru music we need a new song of great artist to bring us back to that. Biz you jam and I absolutely luv this channel
Stevie is on his own level, and Dione Warwick for years (after her recording career was well underway) was the host of SOLID GOLD, a weekly music entertainment show with dancers for the top 10 list and a couple artists singing (lip synching) every week.
Dionne Warwick is the lead female and Gladys Knight is the other female. I don't know why Gladys didn't sing more in this because she's fantastic. There is another version of this song with Dionne, Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston and Stevie. (Dionne and Whitney are cousins and, Whitney's mother, Cissy was a member of the group, The Sweet Inspirations, who sang back-up for Elvis and Aretha Franklin) Dionne has a large catalog of songs: "That's What Friends Are For" ( released as a solo) " A House Is Not A Home" "Say a Little Prayer" "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" "Walk on By" "Heartbreaker". And many more. Gladys Knight and the Pips: "Midnight Train to Georgia" " Heard it Through the Grapevine",..................... for starters
I’ve watched lots of Americans reacting to this song and I’m gobsmacked how many black Americans don’t know who Gladys Knight is. Is Gladys not as famous in America as she is in Britain. I hear that voice and instantly know Gladys Knight. Come on my brothers!
The iconic Gladys Knight is next to Stevie. Dionne Warwick is also a mega star with many number ones. Gladys Knight and the Pips did Midnight Train to Georgia- a massive hit.
This song was recorded for the Aid crisis and a total $1.7 million was made, all of which has gone to AIDS charities. It won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals
Which one is Dionne? I thought you knew her? Gladys Knight is the one next to Stevie. You did a reaction to Gladys Knight and the Pips. I just assumed you knew her by your commentary. I was going to suggest this after the Georgia song but forgot. I've always loved this collaboration. It brings a smile to my face
This was a fundraiser for AIDS assistance and research. Both Elton and Dione were heavily involved in it. AIDS patients were treated horribly. Nurses wouldn’t touch them, doctors wouldn’t treat them, and when they died undertakers wouldn’t bury them. Friends deserted them, some family denounced them. So the words are very poignant in that context. It won the Grammy for Record of the Year. From left to right it’s Elton, Dione, Gladys Knight and Stevie.
gladys night (of the Pips), check out 'midnight train to Georgia live. Also the same song version with Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross, Luther tears it up.
Lord did he say, " that woman"? Forgive him Gladys and yes that's the iconic Gladys Knight of Gladys Knight and The Pips. Please tell me you know of this iconic group, if not please research them, you won't be disappointed.

Yes they're still with us
This comes back into my life every few years. Just a blessing. Love them all, but Gladys has my heart
The woman next to Stevie is Gladys Knight. She looks at Stevie like she's totally starstruck to be singing with him.
They were friends. Stevie adored her.
Stupid comment ! Gladys Knight is probably the best singer there !
That is NOT Ms. Gladys. That is the legendary iconic Ms. Dionne Warwick. She is one of the greatest. Look her up.

I agree with you on Stevie Wonder. Lovely song. Thanks for reacting!
Hey Biz, do notice how some performers work to our world a better more beautiful place? Are they becoming more rare?
Dionne is the one who starts the song and sings half of it, inviting the others in.
Not a competition ......it's about being friendship
I remember when this came out. What a great song and what a great quartet! Love all four of them but just want to say that I especially love Gladys! Powerhouse voice! And she has one of those smiles that just radiates warmth.

Days like this when things were a lil more together and a lot less divided?
The great Gladys Knight. You got to do some Gladys Knight and the Pips. She's like one of the last standing of the great soul singers of the 60s 70s
I agree, Stevie is up there, he blows everyone away in the star packed 'We are the World' for Africa,
Him and Freddie Mercury are my fav singers :)
HEYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!! 😊 WAY TO GO BIZ, THIS IS JUST GREAT WITH ELTON BEING THE FROSTING ON THE CAKE! 💯
I remember this. BEAUTIFUL
Four beautiful voices
I like her song Heartbreaker from 1982-3 . . . pretty sure Bee Gees had a lot to do with it from the fading memoir bank
Yes the Gibbs wrote it. Often performed it in their concerts
That Ms. Dionne Warwick always so amazing how she always seems to weave in and out of vocal registers and stylings without missing a blink or a strain!! Ms. Dionne was brilliant of selecting the 4 of them to all together to do this classic!! Couldn't get any better period!!❤❤

Another song from Dionne that needs some attention is Then Came You.
Dionne Warwick is the lead female and Gladys Knight is the other female. I don't know why Gladys didn't sing more in this because she's fantastic. There is another version of this song with Dionne, Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston and Stevie.

Stevie Wonder contributed harmonica tracks to quite a few other artists records.
For example The Trammps "Soul Bones".
